On 8/30/19 at approximately 6:15 pm I went into the Dollartree to buy some items. When I brought the items to the counter the cashier by the name of Gena started to check out my items. She somehow punctured the can of soda and it spilled all over the plastic bag and everything that was in the bag. At that time I said to Gena that I was going to get the same items again because I didn't want all the sticky items in the bag with soda all over them. Gena stated "There was nothing wrong with the items". So I again repeated I didn't want the sticky items. When I brought the same items back to the counter Gena started to ignore the new items and started to put the same sticky items in a new bag. I said to her "I informed you several times I don't want those items". Gena then said "Well you don't have to be rude". At that point I asked for her name and she snatched the receipt out of my hand and said "See my name is right here on the receipt". At that point I asked her not to snatch anything out of my hand again. I went over to the Manager, Jenifer, who was in the store cashing out other customers and should have heard everything and I proceeded to tell her what happened. Jenifer gave me this blank stare like I came from mars and said nothing. At that time I left the store and decided to contact corporate office. Now I am starting to wonder if my race of being African American had anything to do with this mistreatment and if they would have acted differently with others. I am also wondering if Dollartree has a history of mistreatment to minorities from their employees and if this is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed nationwide.
