Capital One - Credit card payments not processed through atm

I took out a secured credit card to build my credit. Each month I made a small purchase on the card ($1-$10) and then paid the card off the following month to build up a consistent payment history.

When capital one branches closed, I was told to make payments through atm. First, you cannot make payments in the exact amount, but you can overpay in cash. The overpayment will not be applied to your next statement but mailed back to you — with the stipulation that you cannot cash the refund.

In my first use of the atm, I paid my balance in full. The machine reported that I paid in full. I then did not use my credit card for about six months as I was not happy about having to overpay an atm and having capital one keep the change by mailing back an uncashable check for the difference.

At the end of the six months I got an alert that my credit had dropped 60 points — as capital one's atm never recorded the payment, even though it confirmed with me that payment was received.

I wrote to capital one to contest the late report which destroyed my credit over $1 that its atm did not record! I then paid the bill again — in the lobby.

I wrote to capital one to request that this mark be removed but they refused on grounds that they believed the payment was late and took no responsibility for the atm.

Thinking that maybe, just maybe the charge hit after I made a payment, giving capital one the benefit of the doubt and chalking this up to experience — I let it go.

About six months later, distressed that my credit had taken such a hit and was only slowly improving, I used the capital one card again for one small purchase and paid at the atm at the end of the month on time and in full.

The atm confirmed I had paid in full. I checked several times to make sure and did not make any other purchases on this card that month.

Then I received an alert that my credit score was dropping again!

The next month the co lobbies were open again so I went in to make my monthly payment at which point I was informed that I had not paid my previous month even though the atm said I had... Either

So, capital hill's atm's do not record payments properly — and they will damage your credit — due to their faulty tech and then refuse to accept responsibility.

Read through these reviews and see that capital one has fired its top tech people and replaced with them hi-b1 workers from india. What I think is happening is that either disgruntled tech workers sabotaged the atms or the indian workers are either incompetently managing the tech... Or are hatching scams against americans.

In these instances, I was forced to pay twice, ensuring capital one made money off me at my expense and through fraud. Since I paid my balance off in time and in pull, they weren't making interest or penalties from me — so they scammed me by failing to record payments and forcing me to pay twice.

Seeing the scam for what it is, I canceled my card and severed business times.

Desired outcome: Both marks removed from my credit report.
