On or about October 8, 2022 our dog feel very ill and we took her to VCA Seaside Animal Hospital.
The symptoms first started about two weeks prior - shivering - which we thought was from having her coat shortened after grooming and the change to cooler weather. We had her in her sweater to help keep her warm. Then we noticed an odd odor from her mouth a few days ago. She stopped eating on Ictober 7, 2022 and was very lethargic. After waiting for over two hours they diagnosed her with periodontal disease. They administered an antibiotic and a first dose of pain meds. Also gave us an appetite stimulant. Told me she needed dental surgery once the meds had worked and scheduled an appointment for two months later. The vet never met with me at any time and there was never the slightest hint that this was a critical situation.
I brought her home and within 30 minutes she started to vomit repeatedly - I called the vet and took her back where they gave her an injection to stop the vomiting and gave me a med to coat her stomach. I came back home - the vomiting had stopped.
She seemed to be feeling a small bit better.
I got up to get a bite to eat and we were checking on her and couldn’t find her! Finally I looked behind the couch and saw her “sleeping” so we didn’t want to disturb her. When my step daughter came home she asked about Cocoa and I told her she was asleep behind the couch. She looked and said she thought something was wrong. I pulled the couch back and when I picked her up she was gone.
I’m convinced her death was solely due to vet malpractice.
