Ace Hardware - carpet tape

For anyone with hardwood floors, do not buy carpet tape from shurtech corp. Sold at ace hardware stores. The box states: "ace carpet tape cloth, use for rough surfaces and heavy traffic areas. Double sided adhesive, features double sided, easy one piece removal, designed for application surfaces that are not smooth. Recommended for use on concrete, metal, plastic, tile, vinyl, wood and painted surfaces". I applied this tape to the back of my throw rugs. When I went to pick up the rugs and remove the tape the finish on my hardwood floors came off. My floors now have stripes. When I called ace hardware they referred me to carol adkins legal dept. And she said that people should expect to have their floors refinished after removing the tape. She said because the box said "designed for surfaces that are not smooth" it wasn't meant for hardwood floors. Completely ignored the fact that the box states "carpet tape, recommended on wood and painted surfaces" and they will not do anything about it. The cost of refinishing my floors was estimated at $1, 100.00. You can imagine how upset I am over this.

The box was very contradictory. Did you miss the part where it said "for wood and painted surfaces"? Aren't the floors in the house wood? Aren't they refinished which is considered painted, lacquer or not? Plus you are missing the part that says "CARPET TAPE". Is that not tape to be used on carpet? If it's for painted surfaces and if it's for carpet, then don't you think that painted surfaces are smooth?

Then i suggest you buy a rug, put the tape around the edge underneath and stick it to your not finished wood and then someday if the rug should get dirty and you need to replace it, remove the rug and I bet you will have a white line on your not finished wood. Paint surfaces on the walls are not smooth but paint surfaces on the floor better be or you'll have splinters under your feet.
