This is a complaint about a deli worker at Smith's on Constitution and Carlisle NE in Albuquerque, NM.
I went to the deli to buy lunch meat and cheese on 12/27 around 5:30 pm.
The worker whose name is Simone (someone I didn't recognize as I shop there all the time). She was wearing one glove on her left hand and nothing on her right hand. She handled the meat and cheese with her right hand and also used her right hand to fluff open the baggie by placing her ungloved hand inside the baggie.
In normal times without Covid running rampant that would still be a safety violation and is disgusting. I don't know if she washed her hands before helping me but God knows what was on her hands after handling other food and surfaces in the deli area.
On top of that, she was rude but she didn't engage with me at all.
I understand that people are under a lot of stress right now because of the virus and understaffing but that's all the more reason to be more patient and to make an effort to do better. The impact of even a smile can make a huge difference and to remember that the people you are dealing with are regular customers who like me have been shopping at Smith's and using the Pharmacy for over 20 years.
There's a reason why I've always shopped at this particular Smith's for so long. It's because I've always felt safe and comfortable in the knowledge that this particular store cared about giving the best service.
I hope this is only an isolated incident but I feel it's necessary for Smith's to be aware of the problem. If this or any other problem arises again I will go directly to the manager of the store.
Desired outcome: Better training in food safety and customer service.
