Menards - Store employees at Menards are ignorant and surly and rob you through their mistakes.

I went through a checkout lane at the Bismarck, ND Menards on State Street in north Bismarck about 8:30 pm 4/7/2022. The cause of disagreement that turned into a gross display of arrogance and ignorance by unprofessional Menards employees that occured was my stapled packet of receipts. These receipts came from two visits that included a return. I was told that I would be given store credit at the time of the return and I should first shop and come back to service counter for the exchange process. I did that. My purchases on this day of the return cost less than the value of the return. This difference was noted on the barcoded receipt - in bold type - as "Remaining Balance:". What I realise is this: what the gentleman processing the return did not do, was give me a piece of cardstock with a barcode. Although this may seem necessary to an employee, it is not recognized as necessary, or expected, by every customer. I can only imagine the distractions that may have caused this employee to make a single mistake.

Even if the store employees that I talked to on checkout 4/7/2022 could not process the store credit without the cardstock, I have a big problem with their behavior toward me. The checker made me stand in the aisle and continued checking out people in that space instead of sending them to another aisle as a professional would do. I had to wait for several minutes like this. The next employee who came to aisle to see receipt just stared at the receipt and keep looking at the different pages of the receipt. Then he mumbled something after a few minutes. He went to get someone else. The third guy was the most arrogant one of all. This guy added insult to injury. He told me "what happened". He said their had been a cardstock to make the return. He repeated his insulting nonsense several times until I stated to him that just because he said he is sure he knows what occured in the past does not prove what I experienced. I also told this totally arrogant acting individual that his insulting assertion was a problem whereas his inability to process the credit without a missing document was not. But he had either decided or was bound by his intellectual limitations to be insulting instead of professional. It's important for all to note that this fellow, like the barely verbal fellow before him, did not introduce himself to me or explain his position or chain of authority at the store - nothing. Then he stood in front of me saying "Well then, have a good evening," This fellow behaved like an ignorant fool, not a professional employee.

I left what I intended to buy and left that store knowing I will be avoiding Menards for the rest of my life. Immediately after leaving Menards, I drove west on Century Avenue to the Lowe's.

Desired outcome: I feel I deserve an apology from ownership and a believable promise to train employees to be professional rather than repulsive.
