Date/Time: Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, approx 12 noon
Location: Shell station @ Ford Road & Newburg in Westland, MI
Issue: Malfunctioning pump
The first issue I noticed was that the pump was very slow in filling my tank... It took at least 5 minutes to register $1.00 on the pump. Given the extreme cold temperature, I opted to wait for the tank to fill in my car. After approx 25 min, I looked at the pump and saw that it was at $41.00 and still running. When I exited the car, I saw that gas was running out of the gas tank and flowing down the side of my car onto my tire and flowing under the car. I immediately clicked the pump handle off and proceeded into the station to report this incident.
I spoke with the cashier, as well as the manager. The manager told me there was nothing that could be done as there is nothing wrong with his pumps. I frequent this station regularly and have never encountered this issue. He explained that the cold temperature (18 degrees) was causing the pump to work slower than usual.
I told the manager that I was willing to pay what I normally would pay for a fill up ($30.00), but he said I must have done something incorrectly with the pump and wished me "God Bless You" and walked away.
I have been a Shell customer for decades, and this type of service is totally unacceptable in my eyes. Thank you in advance for addressing this situation in a timely manner. My garage smells strongly even this evening of the smell of gasoline... not pleasant. Otherwise, I will be forced to contact my bank to contest this charge.
Desired outcome: My request is that Shell will do the right thing and take care of this situation by either crediting my credit card or by providing a gift card to compensate me for this inconvenience and the poor service I received at this station.
