I went to pick up my newborn’s medicine, provided his name and date of birth, and was told by the pharmacist I needed my health insurance card. I didn’t bring it because I never needed it for myself to pickup. Nevertheless, I was rung up for about $28 and told to return with the insurance card and receipt (she made sure I selected paper receipt at the prompt). I asked if the $28 amount is the amount with insurance and she said yes, so I thought I was required to return.
Slightly annoyed, I went home, gave the medication to the mother to use on the baby, and returned with the insurance card and receipt only to be told I needed to bring the script paper too despite not being told this initially.
I went home again, grabbed the entire bag/medication I’d received from CVS, so as to not have any more surprises, and made a third trip to CVS.
This time, the pharmacist asked “is he a newborn” - I said yes then I was told he was too young to be on my insurance. Obviously she should have known he was a newborn, I provided his DOB on my initial visit. She then contradicted her earlier statement and said I’d only receive a $10 or so discount anyway, so this meant she did not correctly answer my question from the initial visit about the $28 amount being the with-insurance amount.
She didn’t seem to listen, answer my questions correctly, or give complete instructions. All of which resulted in three trips to CVS, where the last two were completely unnecessary.
Desired outcome: I believe I could have picked up the medication in one trip without insurance, and/or be told correctly that I didn’t need to return for a minor discount.
