I have purchased gas at this location many times. I went in today to purchase a soft drink. I was told I could not purchase just the soft drink, that I had to purchase something else to make the total purchase of $5.oo. For one thing I don't smoke, was not hungry. I just did not need anything else. I gave the cashier my credit card. I did not want any cash back. I just find this stupid. Especially when this is a local gas station, surrounded by the community. I will make it my duty to inform everyone I know about this. I never felt so small in all my life with people standing behind me. I did not see any sign posted any where regarding this policy. And he was receiving a credit card, which he gets paid. This is just plain stupid. So now he and this station has not lost me as a customer but my family including kids that drive. We will not be buying gas at this location any more. And I am telling everyone I know. You can on that. As a Shell station, shell reps should be angry, It may seem that I may be a small pebble in a pond, but If I can prevent even a couple of people from spending there money there I am satisfied. And bring there business to Murphy/Walmart down the street. And, you CAN BUY JUST A DRINK IF YOU WANT TO WITHOUT SPENDING EXTRA MONEY OR HAVING A LIMIT THAT YOU MUST SPEND AT LEAST $5.OO
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Ok that soft drink you try to buy is probably aprox. $1.25 and business makes aprox. %30 profit from that soft drink which is $0.37 and there is credit card commission for that charge is $0.04 plus minimum of $0.30 for transaction fee that credit card merchant service charges .
So that business owner makes $0.04 from that one soft drinks
Do you think it is fare to that business?
A lots of people using credit cards or debit cards because they are getting cash back and/or points my concern is why business has to pay for your points / or cash back
Put your self on that business owner position and think one more time…
PS: by the way I’m not that business owner or manager but I’m a small business owner also dealing with credit card companies and customers like you everyday
It is illegal for the gas station to have a minimum of $5. When the gas station signed up with the credit card company, it states that there is no limit on what a person can charge. Therefore, please call your credit card and tell them about this gas station. The gas station will drop the minimum of $5 in a hurry because they don't want to be sued by your credit card company.
