CVS - The pharmacy department

There was a problem with my prescription being filled. I had this problem before & what happened was the day my prescription was to be filled they weren’t able to fill it because they ran out of my medicine. Also there were other issues I was having: my pain medicine would be short 3 & 5 pills and the pharmacist did nothing when I brought it to his attention. So I stopped going to CVS for about 6 months.

Then I was told CVS has new people who are really nice and seem organized. So I decided to give CVS another try. It happened again, they weren’t able to fill my pain medicine because they ran out of it. I ask the pharmacist… why is this happening and he explained why. I totally understood his reasoning. He suggested that I have my doctor send the prescription over earlier than 1 day before it’s due. I did what he suggested.

Here I am again….. not able to get my medicine when it’s due. My doctor sent the prescription 6 days before it was due to be filled. I received a text message stating they received my prescription but is unable to fill it because its too soon. Three days later I called CVS, wanting to make sure they had my pain medicine and if they will be able to fill it on the 22nd. The person I spoke to said, “ yes it will be available on the 22nd”. She then explained that by law they can not fill this any sooner then the day it’s due. I totally understood.. because of how people abuse this medicine.

Now, it’s the 22nd and I’m at CVS waiting to pick up my medicine. Wouldn’t you know….. they don’t have my medicine. They ran out of it again and are waiting to receive their supply and HOPEFULLY they will receive it tomorrow on the 23rd. So here I am again not able to get the medicine I need.

I had a double back fusion on my lower spine and this double fusion has created a whole new set of serious back pain for me so I depend on this for some relief. Ive never abused this medicine by picking it up earlier or by taking more then what is prescribed. All I ask is for this medicine to be ready the day it is due. Not the day before, but the day it’s due and CVS has an issue with this.

Because I can not pick up this medicine 2, 3, or 4 days before the due date, I get stressed worrying if it will be available for me on the due date. I can no longer allow this to keep going on. Even if it only happened once, once is too many times. I will be using another pharmacy that I know I can rely on. Yes it’s a little further away but convenience isn’t what’s important for me, it’s the relief I get from the severe back pain I’m in that’s important.

What’s so sad about this whole situation is I’ve been a loyal customer who thought very highly of CVS since it first opened its stores near my home sometime in the beginning of 2004, I believe. It’s saddens me to say that I will no longer be a customer of CVS. And if this is happening to me, I’m sure it’s happening to others as well.

The ultimate price CVS will face because of the way the pharmacy runs their department will ultimately hurt the CVS store. As the pharmacy looses its customers, the CVS store will also loose those customers. Many of the customers that shop at CVS store come from the pharmacy. Many times if not most of the time customers of the pharmacy department will shop inside the store since they are there picking up their medicine. Most of what you sell inside your store is sold at Walmart or Target and it’s cheaper. But because of the convenience of having to pick up a prescription, people end up shopping at CVS.

Desired outcome: To me to be allowed to pick up this medicine a couple days sooner so I’m not having to worry about not being able to fill it the day it’s due.
