Dollar Tree - Poor management

I live in the area and frequent the Dollar Tree Store by the Mall of Georgia in Buford. On several occassions in April and May of 2010, I've witnessed one of the managers by the name of Gloria (not sure if she is a manager or supervisor) yelling throughout the store reprimanding an employee, that quite frankly did nothing wrong. I am not sure if she was having a bad day or if she had a personal ax to grind with this poor employee. She screamed out insults such as stupid, can't do nothing right, claiming to dock her pay for helping a customer in the cashier line. I assume she was supposed to clock out to go home, but Gloria let her have it in an unprofessional manner.

The cashier had a few people in her line, but when the manager started yelling, everyone behind me put their items down and left the store. Before they left, we started talking about how rude this manager was and two of the customers were appalled and compelled to shake their heads in disgust, then left.

I stayed in line since I was next, and the poor cashier was literally and physically pushed aside by Gloria and told to clock out. The manager used words like "fricken stupid", "you people get on my nerves", "... not a fricken mind reader", while shaking her head and slamming the cash register. At that point, I decided to put my things back and leave because I wasn't sure if she was talking about customers or "black people" since the employee was black. All I knew is that I didn't want to be helped by her and the other cashier's line was way too long.

This wasn't the first time I witnessed an incident like this. This is just one of the worst ones I've seen. Another time, this same manager was yelling throughout the store at other employees to do their tasks. She has no professional demeanor about her role and comes across as a bully and childish.

At this point, I decided to drive a few more miles to go to the nearest store (even though it is somewhat out of my way) just to get better service and courtesy. The district manager for the Buford store needs to see how these employees are treated by their manager -- especially at night. I've never seen such rudeness without any discretion to the customers who are shopping in the store. It is obvious that management of people is not a good position for her.

I did overhear one customer ask for the district manager name back in April to file a complaint, but this same person refused to give it to her. At the time, I didn't know what the gripe was, but if it is anything like what I witnessed -- I know why. I hope this manager does not treat customers the same way she treats employees. She has definitely lost me as a customer there, and possibly a few more. I guess this store can afford such bad behavior.

@Irish @Zachary... thank you for your posts! Customer Service and Respect seem to be lacking in many stores. To think there are so many people out of work who have great attitudes and work ethics, but can't get a job.

I know if it was my store, this kind of behavior would get you fired. This store is jeopardizing its reputation. I didn't realize "cheap goods" meant "tacky service and trashy staff".

You are right. I hate that trickery/false flattery has to be used to get information, but unfortunately there is no other way to share this info with the district manager.

The point of all of this is for their district manager to either help train these store managers on excellent customer service and respectful employee relations or reprimand them for their poor conduct (and/or performance) in these stores.

Not sure why this particular manager thought yelling within a store was a good idea. How obnoxious and rude? However, if that was their home training and environment, what can you do. She seems to have gotten away with it for a while as she was freely yelling without any thought of feeling embarrassed.

At your store located at Arden and Watt in Sacramento CA, four years ago I looked up the owner of that particular store and discussed the two complaints I had...he assured me that both were to be taken care of as soon as weather would permit.
My complaints were:
(1) That they needed to install an automatic door, because the door they have is too heavy for a disabled person to open on their own and therefore has to wait until a nice customer leaving the store will be kind enough to hold the door open for the disabled person, trying to either go into the store or trying to leave the store.
(2) That there is no marked Handicap Parking outside the store and some Handicap people can't afford to walk the distance, in front of the grogery store next door (which has Handicap parking), and also walk through your store and back to their vehicle.

The store has not fulfilled their promise of taking care of these situations and I think that four years is long enough time that they should of been taken care of by now.

I love shopping at this location from the rest because of there products; however due to there employee Montoya (got her name of my reciept) was so rude and disrespect I will NEVER shop there again. As I was in line, she grabbed my items and started to throw it in the bags and threw the bags on the counter as if she didn't want to touch them and the kicker was once she was done she threw my change in my hands like she didn't want her hands to touch mine. Once I got in the car I looked at my reciept and realized she charged me a dollar over but because I was so DISGUSTED my her attitude I didn't even go in to get my money back. I felt she was so rude and racist and I will NEVER shop there again and I will tell all my friends and family to stop shopping there as well. I thought we progressed as a nation, I guess not.

What in the hell is a "grogery store"? Learn to spell, ###. I swear, one more generation and we will be living "Idiocracy".
