Best Buy - Xbox game purchase

Best Buy refused to refund a game purchased as a Christmas gift at their store in San Carlos CA. The purchase (made at that location) was a microsoft download code which had not been used. This purchase was verified by Best Buy, they refused to refund me saying only Microsoft could.

On Best Buy's referreal and refusal to take ownership of a product they sell, I contacted Microsoft. Microsoft kept m on the phone for an hour before stating that only Best Buy could refund me.

I then called the Best Buy costumer service line to try to remediate the situation. After some time, they said they could refund it, then disconnected and never called me back even though they had made a point to get my number in case of a disconnect. Once I realized they had no intention of calling back to finish processing the refund, I called again. This time a new person stated they could not refund me... even though they had already started the process and had notes stating this fact.

Finally today, as a last ditch effort to get Best Buy to honor the sale and refund as they had stated they would, I went back to the brick and morter in San Carlos CA, explained yet again the situation only to be told by their manager that (of course) there was nothing they could do. I left the receipt and unused purchased code with them and left.

This business practice is blatant thievery. I given Best Buy ample opportunity to simple be an honorable retailer and they refuse to do so. I'd like a refund, and more importantly I'd like an apology from Best Buy for wasting so much of time. It's completely unacceptable and it needs to corrected immediately.
