I am a 76 year old veteran and retired on a fixed income. I have several old series E bonds from the 70's and 80's and have been cashing them at the Riverside, Ca magnolia center Citibank for years when I need money for large expenses like property tax, car or home ins etc. I tried to cash a bond today July 1 2021 and the new teller wasn't sure how to cash an E bond. The supervisor came over and said they don't cash E bonds anymore only EE or I bonds. I told her that I'd been cashing them here for years even one about 6 weeks ago. She said they don't cash them anymore, that I would have to send them in to FED Savings Bond Redemption and gave me a phone #. Another teller started to walk over and she looked at him and shook her head, he went back to his window. I left and went to another Citibank branch and they cashed it easily with no problem. My question is, Does a supervisor or manager have the right to make policy because they don't know how to enter in a code to cash an E bond for their branch exclusively that goes against Citibank corporate policy. Not very good customer service! I would appreciate an answer.
