Dollar General - Management

01/31/2021. I was an employee at dollar general on 300 Azalea Road in Mobile, Alabama. I had been working there for about three weeks, less than a month. A customer came in and tried to intimidate me because I wouldn't sell him tobacco without seeing his ID (you know, the law and also the company policy). He came back later and started antagonizing me, calling me a racist and yelling rude things about me to other customers in the line. I responded poorly and raised my voice at him. At this point it needs to be noted that I am a retired disabled veteran suffering with PTSD (I can show a doctors note if need be). So being in a confrontational situation with a man three times my size in a store with no security and no managers nearby to help me had things escalated even farther, I felt unsafe and became triggered and had to leave the register to have a panic attack in the back room of the store. Before I left the register though, a coworker who works directly for the district manager, Guy Foster, her name is Mandy, approached the man and yelled at me saying I was wrong for saying a curse word even though I was in a full blown panic. After he left and after the incident had calmed down, I talked to my manager, Tamara White about the incident and it had been told incorrectly to her - Mandy had told her I just disappeared for five minutes and not that she had told me to step away from the register to calm down. After the fact, I tried to explain to my manager that I needed to go home for the rest of the day and explain that I have prior trauma and panic attacks and needed to be out of that environment ASAP, but she kept cutting me off and essentially telling me I was weak and should get over it because "that's just customer service." I am also a trans individual and none of my coworkers or management (Tamara White) would use my preferred name that I told them on day 1. They deadnamed me every day that I was there. So in short, this store is not accomodating of disabled veterans or individuals with PTSD, or of trans individuals. It was a hostile work environment and it needs to be addressed. I quit my job on the spot because my management did not take care of me in a distressing situation and they deadnamed me for three weeks straight.

Desired outcome: Mandatory HR class for management about using preferred names for coworkers, deescalation class, and disability accommodation requirements.
