All this happened in a time that I was looking/applying for jobs/opportunities in the model industry.

One day I received a call saying that I was selected for a modelling interview/photo shoot by Hype Digital.
They asked me for 50 pounds in advance to secure the place in case I didn't show up. I naively agreed and paid this amount on 01/07/2021.
(Today I know that I shouldn't have to pay for this if it was a real model agency)

On 06/07/2021 I had my photo shoot and after that, a man called Faris K told me that I was selected to go further, told me about all the potential that I have in this career and how wonderful/fun it could be. Then he said that if I wanted to continue further/ to get a job in this career, I should buy a package with photos and a portfolio included.
He showed me some packages, giving more attention to the expensive ones.
At this time I didn't know if the prices were fair, I was relatively new in England, so I believed in all the things that he said and showed.

He made me/influenced me sign a contract for buying a package with photos and portfolio with a total price of 1000 pounds and that I had to decide in that moment, so I was also pressured.

Before sign I asked him, in case I change my mind afterwards can I stop paying this monthly agreement, he said in his own words " yes, you can not continue but you would lose the money that you already paid.

Because of his words I agreed to sign and gave 150 pounds in advance for this contract, (this payment was made for the company Thomas Street Studios) he also deducted the 50 pounds deposit that I already had give, which left me with a balance due of 800 pounds.

I left the place where I had the photo shoots and a few days after I saw all the complains about Thomas Street Studios and how many people have been deceived by them.

I called them several times but no one was picking up.
17 days, after I signed (on 23/07/2021), I send them an email saying:

" I tried to get in contact with you regards the contract but more than a week as been passed and I didn't received any reply from you.

Also I tried to call for your both numbers ([protected]/ [protected]) several times and no answer.

So I'm cancelling the contract with you and I hope you don't take any money from my account on the 28th of July 2021.

I'll be waiting for your response"

They replied in the same day, which was very suspicious, because they did't had time to pick up the phone but had time to reply this:

"Good Afternoon,

I'm sorry you haven't been able to contact us. We are very busy at the moment.

As it stands you have signed a non cancelable contract on our premises. This is outlined in different parts of the contract and has been signed for by yourself.

If you would like to contest this, please email [protected]@hype-digital.co.uk

Thank you"

So I emailed [protected]@hype-digital.co.uk but it appeared that this email didn't exist.

I also changed my bank card so they weren't able to take any more money from my account.

Then, I insisted a few more times about this and about what Faris K told me. Plus I wasn't even asking for my 200 pounds back (50 deposit + 150 advance payment).

They continued insisting that is a non cancelable contract, so I gave up of replying to them and after I started receiving emails from Thomas Street Studios as I had to pay the 800 pounds left.

I didn't payed attention to their emails and threatening and now 6 months after I received a letter from AJJB Law saying that the client Thomas Street Studios is asking for 1052.63 pounds and if I don't pay potential legal action may occur.

I found this really unfair and I'm really disappointed how laws are made to allow this to happen.

What are my legal option to save me from this type of unfair enforceable corporate practices?

Back then I had to contact a legal advisor to understand the contract and also about AJJB Law.

Unfortunately it was told that the contract was reliable because of my signature and my email canceling the contract was after the 14 days that you can legally cancel any service when you sign.

Also AJJB Law is authorised by the FCA.

The weird thing here is that, Thomas Street Studios is not authorized by the FCA and if you go to the FCA website to know more about Thomas Street Studios, you can see that they changed their name from time to time.

The only thing that you can do in this situation is, if you are still inside of the 14 days of cancelling, send them an email straight away that you want to cancel, so you have proof, and contact a legal advisor for more info.

If you are already outside of the 14 days, get a lawyer as soon as possible or pay everything that you need to pay.

Also, report this to Action Fraud and to the FCA.

Hi.

This happened to my son and he emailed them asking to cancel the contract the very next day. He has subsequently sent them lots of emails stating he was scammed and wants the contract cancelled. Does this mean that legally he can cancel? He has also set up a block on his account for them to be able to make any money but is worrying about debt collectors coming. What is AJJB law? Shall we contact a legal advisor?

Its making him ill, can't believe these people can get away with it. We want to fight it all the way- is this possible in anyones experience?

Thanks for your advice
