The Pep Boys review: Starter replacement Store#1767, Pearland, TX 77581

I had my 1992 Chevy Subruban towed to you store# 1767, 1433 E. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581 today.

1) I had removed the starter motor to get it tested, and I'm 73 yrs old and didn't have the strength to put it back up where it went, lying on my back in my driveway I had taken the starter motor to O'Reilly's Auto Parts to get tested or get a new one.

2) They tested it and I have a print-out that it tested at 100%.

3) I made an appointment on line and had it towed in about 4:15 pm. I asked that they please put it on a lift and install the starter motor.

3) The 'mechanic' called me and told me the starter gear 'wobbled' and is not supposed to be that way.

4) I picked the starter motor up and took it back to O'Reilly's, and asked the counter person to pull a new starter off the shelf to compare. The new starter gear wobbled the same amount. He said that it is impossible for the flywheel and starter gear to line up perfectly 100% of the time, and that the wobble was to allow the gear to engage the flywheel when it didn't line up perfectly.

5) I gave them both keys AND the alarm system remote, all on the same keyring.

6) I asked that they park it inside, since I have about $1,000 worth of tools inside.

7) I just came back from checking to see if they parked it inside, and they didn't. (10:30 PM) There are 2 or 3 open bays.

8) I found that they had left it where I parked it, all doors open, and the battery disconnected. Does no one know that the alarm remote has a 'lock button' and 'unlock button' to set the alarm and turn it off?

9) Yes, I'm pretty ticked off at their incompetance at this point!

10) I locked all the doors and set the alarm and want to inform Pep Boys Corporate office of my experience.

They have not called me to let me know that they had any 'problems' with it. Needless to say, I'm quite perterbed about this, and will NOT give them my permission to work on it. Next door is Topes Car Care where I will let them do the work.
