Last January 2026 I noted a charge on my credit card: $250 for the full subscription at New York Times that had gone through my credit card in mid-December `25. Issue was that I did NOT order this subscription. Indeed, the only one I'd had was for the previous year and only for the NYT Games access. I ended up on their website for several hours over many days, trying to CANCEL and get a refund for this script I didn't order. No success even with the chat function and could NOT find a phone number to speak with a human. After probably 9 hours trying over days in January, I was so upset that I gave up on it. Now, in October I checked and can see that my subscription was cancelled, but with no refund. I did the Chat again, was told there'd be a human on with me in "~1 minute." Waited at least 5, then typed, "Really?" Then got a curt message saying "we're sorry but there is no available refund for this subscription." End of chat. Terrible experience and I won't subscribe again for any of their services. Wondering if I have legal standing to sue them.
Claimed loss: $250
Desired outcome: Refund
