Bought 3 finished exterior doors through home depot, well over 5k. We hoped we were buying something that would last. They implied they were made in texas and were solid doors; they are made in china apparently out of junk. 1st winter finish not holding up, doors expanding and contracting so much, they wouldn't latch or lock several times a year. We contact customer service, and the excuses were ridiculous: only guaranteed for 90 days, it's our fault, we should have had a finished exterior door finished again? By the 2nd year, they started growing mushrooms/fungus out of seams, and constant exanding and contracting ended up ruining an expensive lock set. We had 3 different contractors come and check and make sure it wasn't installation or something we missed. Nope, they are just junk. Tried a couple other times to get in contact with the company and get good faith replacements, but they just ignored us. Save yourself the hassle. Much better options out there, with much better (any) customer service. Terrible company.
Recommendation: AVOID!!!
Three contractors already told you it is not installation, so get each one to put that in writing on letterhead. That is your evidence. Send a certified demand letter to Steves & Sons and copy Home Depot corporate, since you bought through them. State that the doors failed within two winters, that fungus is growing from the seams, and that a 90 day warranty does not excuse selling defective exterior doors. Demand replacement or refund within 14 days. If they ignore it, file with the Texas Attorney General consumer protection division and the FTC, then take them to small claims. Keep every photo, receipt, and contractor statement.
