The log kit was alright, but the builder took more than a year to finish it, and we ended up spending over $20,000 on additional things. It's really hard to prevent water stains from appearing on the inside of the logs. Those pesky bees seem to have a real fondness for the wood, and they can be quite boring. The windows aren't all that great either, as they keep losing the bead. And let me tell you, we had flies that made themselves at home in the wood cracks for a whopping three months! So, my advice is to make sure you pick a good builder.

We got lucky and found a really good General Contractor (not from Southland Log Homes' recommended contractor list for Pennsylvania) who knows how to build log homes. Southland log homes gave us some top-notch logs and materials for putting it all together, even threw in some windows and doors. We're taking care of the inside stuff ourselves. Dorthy and Austin, the designers and purchasing agents from Southland Log Homes, were super helpful and paid attention to all our worries. We got a bang for our buck with a high-quality product, and we can't wait to have a blast in our new log cabin for many years to come.

I highly recommend considering another company for your building needs. While the salesmen at Southland Log Homes are impressive, the lack of reliable support afterwards is a major concern. Once I signed the agreement, the case manager repeatedly informed me that I would only have two sessions with the architect, making it challenging to communicate with the team. Additionally, attempting to reach any team members proved to be a difficult task as phone calls often went unanswered.

To make matters worse, we encountered problems during the construction process and received no assistance or support from Southland Log Homes. It was disheartening to face these issues without any guidance or help from the company. This experience left me feeling frustrated and disappointed.

Furthermore, it came to my attention that Southland Log Homes is no longer an American-owned business. Our builder informed us that the company is now owned by a Chinese corporation, after being sold by its original local owner to a business in the United Arab Emirates, which then sold it to the Chinese. This revelation was quite surprising and made me question the company's commitment to supporting American workers.

Considering these factors, I urge you to explore other options available on the market. It is essential to support local businesses that prioritize American workers and provide reliable support throughout the building process.

We decided to purchase a kit from Southland Log Homes, and we followed their suggestion to work with Rick Key of Timber Ridge Log Home Construction in Texas. They assured us that Rick had experience building or selecting plans multiple times. Unfortunately, our experience did not go as planned.

Rick did not construct the house according to the provided plans, starting from the foundation and working upwards. Moreover, he neglected to obtain necessary inspections, presumably because he knew the house would not pass them. As a result, we find ourselves with a partially completed home that is barely held together.

Despite Southland's claim that they removed Rick from their list of recommended builders after seeing our house, we have discovered that he is still constructing their homes even a year later. Meanwhile, we, as homeless veterans, are left in a difficult situation after our attempt to replace our hurricane-damaged home has gone awry.

We strongly advise staying far away from Southland and their recommended builders, unless you have a fondness for lawsuits and the prospect of homelessness.
