Smokey Mountain Getaways reviews and complaints
Misleading sales and service
We attended the sales pitch by Smokey Mountain Getaways (SMG) on the resort's property at June 2, 2013. We decided to trade in our timeshare with a $600 annual fee and approx. $200 per vacation exchange fee at a cost of $5835 and a $200 annual fee because we were told that there would be greater availability for travel and a lower cost per week. The representative, Shawn, showed us trips that cost $435 per week on the website. We were led to believe that this would be far more economical than keeping the timeshare. As they pushed forward, we were asked to sign a stack of papers while our 6 year old and 1 year old were getting restless. Also, due to the way the purchase was structured (we paid $200 June 2 and $988 on June 28) we did not have immediate access to the website. Once we realized that we had access, we started to look for vacations and found that most trips we wanted were actually over $1200 per week. We also found that the timeshare exchange had more options for travel than SMG and would cost less per week less than SMG. We immediately called SMG and attempted to figure out where the great deals were. We were promised a callback the same day but had to leave messages for 3 straight days before we heard back from Donna and Anthony. We informed them after reviewing their best attempt to find the discounts that we wanted to cancel because what they offered could not compete with the cost and availability of timeshare exchange. A written request to cancel via email was sent Aug 9th. My attorney sent a letter on Sept 12th after we heard nothing back. The response received 10/1 denied our request to cancel the contract.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Refusal to allow membership cancellation
My husband and I bought into the membership because we were shown sites where you could supposedly get greatly reduced rates on various vacation rentals. We were supposed to have three days after signing the contract to look it over and cancel if we wanted to, but the website was not available to look at for more than five days after signing the contract...
