I recently applied for an apartment in Winchester and they collected a security deposit before I was even shown the lease. The lease was provided about an hour later and in going through the terms I decided not to rent the apartment and contacted them immediately. They informed me they would not return my deposit although I had signed no lease and only an hour had passed. They removed the lease and the online portal within 2 hours and repeated attempts to discuss the security deposit return were denied. I should be entitled to a refund as renters often get their security deposits returned after living in the apartment for a year or more with no damages. I had not even entered the apartment so no damages had been done and the ad had not even been removed from the rental sites as only 2 hours had passed between the payment and the request for a refund. I have disputed with the bank and if this fails do intend to file a small claims court case. This can easily be solved by just returning my deposit as you would a renter with no damage. If you need to remove a small fee for administrative fees that would be negotiable this is 795. I need a refund.
