you should have called your c/c immediately and canceled the charge - don't listen to someone telling you about a refund coming - cancel yourself through the c/c and save yourself the $$ and time, hassle, headache and complaint.

there are clauses on contracts for automatic renewal but the customer must be notified of that intent 45-60 days before end of term of the original contract; usually as a by-line on a bill; such as cable.
and by stating that the consumer should seek advice from a financial adviser? - have you any consept of what a financial adviser is?!
impudentone - you are correct; however, with a written notice the provider can claim the customer did not give notice to terminate the service therefore, the customer did not want a 'service interruption' and the provider in all good faith renewed the contract for them. It's a very grey area of the law and seems to be a contentious debate every few years (credit card yearly membership fees, health club renewal fees, interest rates, payday loan interest rates, etc.) - these all have a small short 'blurb' in the body of their statement somewhere when renew time comes up.
why did you not just refuse their inept service - if you signed a contract on false sales advice the contract is void.
it's really quite simple - send them a letter - DO NOT waste your time calling - explain that they sold you a 'package' with only 'parts' of the 'package' available therefore, no sale - would you buy a car and then have it delivered without the engine? or steering wheel?
in the letter also state that you will be avaiable from 5:47pm to 6:08pm on Tuesday and 6:13pm to 7:23pm on Wednesday and only available from 3:13pm and 4:08pm on Saturday so they can remove there Dish equipment.
a small claims settlement could also teach these iots a lesson; though it doesn't go that far... I sued Verizon and they canceled and credited back all $$ before it went to trial. They onlyunderstand the law when you threaten to actually pursue them with it...
