Terrible experience with Mike Maroone service department.
We have an older car that was great for almost 10 years and 200k miles, but now with recurrent issues, so expected bad mechanical news. As a hybrid, MM charged $400 for diagnostics, which we agreed to. The diagnosis was that, in addition to $7,700 in recommended work (on a $1000 car), another $400 diagnostic test was recommended/required to collect data on a separate emergency brake light, as it wasn't included in the initial testing. No prior warning that a 2nd $400 was a possibility. Without any hope of realistically salvaging the vehicle, we declined the 2nd $400 test.
We were directed to decline the work on the emailed estimate, and when done, the total was still over $470. A required "shop fee" was added, as were taxes on the shop fees - "we add that to every repair visit" - why was this not communicated? When challenged, they agreed to remove the shop fees, as they were neither communicated nor approved.
After paying the $408 fee (adding 2% transaction fee, because you're going to pay for EVERYTHING they can think of when you go to Mike Maroone) and indicating that we would likely sell the vehicle for whatever we could get for it in its current condition, the Svc Mgr claimed that "yeah, if you had accepted any of the repairs and charges, I would have advised you against it and to just sell the car." Anyone believe that?
Svc Manager Dave (don't recall last name) was very pleasant and friendly as the whole scam was going on. Svc Manager Zamora (don't recall first name - Mike?) was as condescending as possible and didn't even pretend to care about our concerns.
Their system is designed and executed to rip you off. Go anywhere else other than Mike Maroone's service department.
Recommendation: Go anywhere except Mike Maroone for service
