I purchased my home in November of 2024 and had a brand new AC and Furnace installed. 7/28 & 7/29 were insanely hot days here in Sioux City, Iowa and I had noticed my AC unit not keeping up in the afternoon and evenings. I typically keep my thermostat around 70-71 degrees and it was reading 77-78!
I did the usual (check filter, make sure AC unit is cleaned off) and still had no luck. Finally, I contacted my heating and cooling company that installed my new AC unit this past spring, and they informed me of the "summer savings" program that Midamerican offers. I was confused because I had never heard anything about this. I ended up contacting Midamerican this morning and I was informed that this address was enrolled in this program back in 2007! I was 19 years old at the time and clearly didn't live here. So, apparently, when I purchased this home in November 2024 and transferred my services, they just automatically enrolled me in this program. So, not only was I enrolled for a program I did not agree to, but when I called to unenroll, I was informed that since I termed my enrollment early, I would not be receiving the $20 credit on my September bill. Which, honestly its not about the money, its about the fact that they are signing people up unknowingly (which benefits them) and then when I finally find out about it and cancel, they don't have to pay the credit.
NOT IMPRESSED!
Recommendation: Make sure you ask about the summer savings program after transferring services!
