Michael Hill International review: Wedding ring

My husband purchased my engagement ring from Michael Hill with the understanding that the diamond warranty would remain valid provided that the ring was brought in for the required inspections every six months. I have taken this requirement seriously and have consistently brought my ring to Michael Hill for inspection and cleaning.
During those visits, I handed my ring directly to Michael Hill staff for inspection and cleaning. I was never provided with separate documentation confirming those visits, nor was I ever informed that I needed to request or retain such documentation myself. Most importantly, I was never advised that my inspections were not being recorded or that my warranty was at risk.
This issue is not limited to my engagement ring. I have also brought my wedding band, which was purchased from Michael Hill, to the store for inspection. Once again, I was not provided with any documentation or record confirming that visit. This further demonstrates that customers may bring their jewellery in for inspection without being given any proof that the inspection occurred or any indication that they are personally responsible for ensuring that the visit has been entered into Michael Hill's system.
Approximately two weeks ago, I again brought my engagement ring to Michael Hill for inspection. During that visit, I was informed that my ring could not be located in the current system and that I needed to bring my original warranty documentation back to the store.
I complied with that request and returned to the store with my warranty documentation. I was then informed that my warranty was considered void because the system does not show that I attended the required inspections every six months.
I strongly dispute that conclusion.
The absence of records in Michael Hill's current system does not mean that the inspections did not occur. I DID bring my ring to Michael Hill for inspection as required. If those visits were not properly recorded, retained, or transferred following a change in Michael Hill's systems, that is an internal record-keeping issue over which I had absolutely no control.
The fact that the same thing has occurred with my wedding band is particularly concerning. I brought that ring in for inspection as well, yet I was again given no documentation confirming the visit. This raises a serious concern regarding Michael Hill's process for documenting inspections and makes it unreasonable to place the consequences of missing records entirely on the customer.
The current situation demonstrates the problem clearly: I was not provided with documentation for my previous inspections, I was not provided with documentation for my recent inspection, and I was not provided with written documentation when I was informed that my warranty had supposedly been voided.
I relied, reasonably and in good faith, on Michael Hill employees to properly record the inspections performed on my jewellery. A customer cannot reasonably be expected to discover that internal records are missing when the customer has physically attended the store, handed the jewellery to staff for inspection, and has never been advised that anything further is required.
I should not lose warranty protection because Michael Hill's records do not accurately reflect the services and inspections performed by its own employees.
