I signed up to Kingsborough in 2006 and met with a Nursing adviser before I did so. He told me that it takes on average 2 years to complete the Nursing program. Well its 2010 - I have yet to complete it - and never will. In Fall 2008 I was kicked out of the program because my clinical professor gave me the wrong email to send my required clinical reports to - then refused to accept the hard copies - even though I had proof. The policy upon entering the program was 2 failures equates dismissal from the program. Well that semester there was a new Director of Nursing - Prof. Lavin. She changed the policy to 1 failure equated dismissal from the program. No notice was given but a size 8font note on the 50th page in the manual. To make a very long story short after being dismissed - I appealed twice to no avail and have contacted media, lawyers, NLN and everyone in CUNY and have had no luck. I was in my final semester at Kingsborough - after years of administrative mistakes and pitfalls I was finally finishing. Prof. Lavin made sure to tell me that she recommends I choose a new career as no one will accept me because of my failure. This failure had nothing to do with my skills, responsibility, or grades but a mistake on the professors part and although I showed time-stamped emails proving my case - I was denied. Now after so many years of dedication and time and money spent I am left without a career and any prospects. This bullying and dis-concern with peoples time, energy, and sacrifice - is unacceptable and a public college that boasts that the staff is there for the students should really not be allowed to ruin someones life so easily.

I too just had a similar situation with the Nursing school at Kingsborough. I was due to graduate 3 weeks shy, and I was NEVER informed I did not meet the requirements to graduate. When you apply to the nursing program they list all the required prereqs to get in. I completed all of these and was accepted. There is an additional Psych course you must complete to graduate with an A.A.S. degree. I was never told once I was missing the class. This is a required coreq with a second semester nursing class. Yet not one person told me I needed to take this class to graduate. I am appalled by this. I understand I should have been privy to this information, but honestly it as never mentioned throughout the two long years I attended the nursing program. It's a shame I had to wait 6 months to graduate with a different class.
@hopeful88 what was this other psych course you needed to complete? I am looking into doing nursing at KCC..
