We bought an expensive black leather lounge a 2 seater and 3 seater from harvey norman cairns it was a janda lounge, after 3 years the leather cracked and the frame broke, they sent an inspector out that said the blame was 50 /50, we have cared for the lounge as recommended since purchase, they offered to repair it if we sent it back to brisbane 2000 klms away at our expense, they can go jump, never ever buy janda rubbish again, we should have bought a cheaper, it would have lasted better than janda! Janda is crap !

Another update, janda for the 1st time actually contacted me, only because of my comments on here, they had no clue whatsover how we were 50/50 liable for their leather cracking, if we neglected it it would be all over, but its on 2 cushions and some other little bits, the inspector apparently never told them their lousy frame also broke, they still refuse to replace their rubbish furniture and still want me to pay transport for a 4000 klm trip, be warned they sell rubbish and then hide behind dodgy inspectors reports!

Hi, i am just about to place an order for a red leather janda suite, very expensive from HARVEY NORMAN and now i am worried about the quality etc. Could it be a one of? What was the outcome of your complaint? A lounge suite should last for years, i may hold on and rethink about leather in general. Let me know the latest will check in.

JANDA - FURNITURE SERVICE & PRODUCTS INCOPRATION WITH HARVEY NORMAN... NOT EVER AGAIN

My husband & I bought a Janda lounge suite through Harvey Norman Carindale in Brisbane about 3 1/2 years ago. . We now live in Hervey Bay which is 3 and half hours away. I have spoken with Harvey Norman and Janda and yes I agree they do not take responsibility for bad quality furniture. We have spent $1000's with Harvey Norman and can say we are totally disguisted.. NEVER AGAIN>> It has cracked and literally peels of.. Had specialist look at it and he said it BICAST Leather and not real genuine leather... So I am just about to go back to them again as we were under the impression paying 1000's for it that it was genuine leather...

Where is it made ie Asia? What materials? Do they cost cut on quality? Yeh, I have heard the stories about them. Not good. Wouldn't buy it.

I will not deal with Harvey Norman because they tell you one thing and when it is time to sign on the dotted line then they telll you the extras, i.e. fabric protection, delivery. They try to make out they are giving you the best deal ( a better price than even the discounted one) Bull, the "better price" was already on the tag. Thats when I walked out and unfortunately will not go back in again. I would also like to know where on the internet that you can submit a complaint except to the furniture shop, who really don't care, as it is their way of training.

Colin,

Thank you for posting your experience you have encountered with Harvey Norman (Australia). I was seriously considering spending $6500 (NZ dollars) on a Janda - Orange lounge suite.

When spending a large amount of money on furniture, one asks questions (as I did with the Salesperson) expecting honesty and professionalism.

I will now look at New Zealand made product and NZ made furniture.

Agasin, thank you for the insight.

hi everyone...
I also bought a dark leather lounge suite ( Bondi suite) from Harvey Norman, being a Janda suite also. We have experienced the same peeling and cracking as you have described and both harvey Norman and Janda have been of no help...after 5 phonecalls and 3 months of following up, I have just been given the run around and finally told that it is not covered in the warrenty...or the additional 5 year warrenty we paid extra for!...
also very disgruntled!

Hello,

We totally agree. We also bought a dark leather lounge suite (the Bondi suite) from Harvey Norman. The leather (which is actually bicast leather and not full leather) is suffering fine cracking all over it. We hardly use it. When Janda sent an inspector they said it was within their tolerance and wont be covered by warrenty. Maybe this is suitable for them but not for anyone else. Yes their products are cheap and nasty. We have looked after this lounge as it was our first leather (or what we thought was leather) lounge.

DON"T BY JANDA FROM HARVEY NORMAN! It appears they both know how poor the product is.

I have had a POSITIVE EXPERIENCE with Janda. We purchased a Bondi suite also and after almost 3 years the Bicast started to peel, I contacted the Harvey Norman store I purchased the suite from and around 4 weeks later I had a letter from Janda offering to re-upholster my whole suite in leather for free as my warranty had not run out...apparently if it was out of warranty they will freight it for free and charge for the leather to re-upholster...I think that is fair...give Janda a break!

I purchased a Janda Coventry 3xRxR lounge suite in 2005 thinking that having retired I would have a beautiful lounge suite for the rest of my life. I paid $4500.00 for it. The leather coating is just peeling off it and the chairs have become very wobbly and no longer strong. As it is only my husband and myself live here they have never been subjected to rough use. I am so dissappointed as I don't have the money now to replace it. I am stuck with it. Harvey Norman Shepparton told me the leather is only garanteed for 12 months.
HELP any one else got any ideas about what to do about it.

We also bought a janda couch and chairs from Mcgoverns furniture in Bendigo and were told that they were the best and that was why they were so expensive ($5, 000). Mcgoverns have closed their store and we could not find where to go to get our chair fixed as the wire has broken on one of our recliners and we dont know how to fix it so we are stuck with an expensive suite that is broken. I would never purchase another Janda product ever again and will also tell evryone I know about my experiance. We should all go on Today Tonight and let everyone know as it is really depressing spending that much money on a really. really crap product.

I laso purchased the Bondi by Janda from Harvey Norman and one of the cushions has virtually no leather left. I have emailed Janda several times asking for help to either purchase a new cushion or to get it reupholstered but they have not been very helpful. I have stressed that I am NOT making awarranty claim and that I actuall think it is the most comfortable lounge I have ever owned but they are telling me that I have to make the 200km trip to the place of purchase. I am happy to pay for the replaement or even for some material so I can cover it myself. I have sent another email to their QA person today. Will wait and see what her response is this time.

My goodness - how their standards have slipped over the past few years - terrible situation - but I am sure they would be laughing all the way to the bank . Years ago a Janda lounge meant top quality and they lasted for 20 years, but not now. They were made in Australia then. I am sure it is still the same family owned company, but perhaps with a different person in charge now.

I think you guys got ripped off. The problem is you bought your janda suites from Harvey Norman. They are known for having poor after sales service, they would rather try and sell you a new suite.
We purchased a janda lounge suite from a furniture shop in Armidale NSW, and they advised us against the leather, and they ordered us in a lounge suite in a micro suede fabric. The fabric is perfect after 5 years, and 2 young kids giving them the normal treatment day in day out. The fabric is brilliant for kids, we have even had them spill sweet and sour sauce on it. The sauce simply wiped off, and you would never know.
The only problem I have ever had is on of the zips that attaches a cushion broke, however I put this down to the kids climbing all over it as kids do.
Clearly we were given the right advice on day 1, and would happilly buy a janda suite again, but certainly in the same fabric. Whats better again, is we only paid $1500 for our 3XRXR suite.
To this day it is still one of the most comfortable lounges I have sat on.

We too have the BONDI and I was really happy when Janda offered to re-upholster all our lounges (even the undamaged ones). They sent a new leather sample and while there were lots of delays in getting the leather in the country a couple of months ago we organised to send our lounge up to Brisbane to be recovered at their cost. Should I be surprised after reading all these comments? - I am really unhappy with the shoddy job on the covering. The cushions are all misshapen and the contrast white is much whiter than in the original lounge. Leather also looks cheap and nasty. I keep looking at how much we spent on this lounge which I thought we would have for 20-30 years and I am so disappointed. Interested to hear from anyone else who has had their lounge re-upholstered.

I purchased a Janda lounge suite from Pullins in Maitland about four and a half years ago.
The leather is cracking and peeling, plus the frame is broken on one arm.
Had I paid $1500 dollars I would not complain, but I paid $5000 and won't ever buy another Janda Product again.

We too bought the Bondi Suite approx 4 years ago, we also had the same problem with the leather peeling(leather yeah right!), my husband rang Harvey Norman in Cranbourne where we purchased it from only to get the run around. The lady there was helpful at trying to sort the problem out but i think she was getting the run around from Janda and didn't know what to tell us. After losts and losts of phone calls from my husband they finally got back to us they decided to send us two new cushion covers for the suite, this was no good as other parts of the suite had started to peel. My husband would not give up with the complaints when you spend $5000 on a lounge suite you expect it to be perfect! Next line of action was we could send the lounge suite back to Qld and pay to have it recovered, my husband said you have to be joking! So he kept on complaining, we now have our lounge suite fully cover in a different leather not bicast which is all the crap leather put into one. It ended up costing us nothing and had it recovered in Melbourne. As for ever buying a Janda lounge again, I'd rather buy a wooden box to sit on!

I am on the net to find the new Janda contact details. We bought a leather suite in about 1990 in Shepparton. It went from there to Central Queensland, then North Queensland then South Queensland and then SE Queensland. All this involved about seven removals over the time. The frame is still ridgy didge but leather on just two cushion tops on couch has fallen apart in the last few years plus one arm has a small hole. There are some typical leather wear cracks elsewhere like on the old time leather couches. Ours were made in Australia. Obviously the quality has gone way south while the place of manufacture has moved way, way North since we purchased. I was about to see if they could do repairs... after reading all the above, I won't bother now!
I like the idea of the wooden box! Bought a two seater a couple of years ago in Hervey Bay. The foam does not hold its integrity - beware of back problems on old foam cushions of the modern era!

Frame problems with our Janda lounge (leather still good) within 2 years of purchase - cannot use one footrest and the other is starting to stick due to (I assume) sagging frame. Janda will fix it, but we have to pay transport costs - apparently they only cover transportation within the first year after purchase - definitely NOT impressed. If we had bought a cheap Fantastic lounge I might have accepted that you only get what you pay for!

I have nothing but good words for the Janda lounge furniture I bought at Amart Port Macquarie almost 10 years ago ... a 3 three-seater and 2 recliners. They have had an incredible amount of use and before my wife died just over 3 years ago I slept in one of the recliners beside her bed every night for 12 months. I am just about to pay $6, 000 to have the suite recovered to go into the new home I have bought at Port Macquarie with the new lady in my life. Note from the attached pictures that the covering is not leather and will never be leather ... far TOO HOT!

Puchased a six seater Janda suit just on five years ago, 18 months ago it started to peel/flake and in the last couple of months it has fallen off in clumps.Contacted Janda and sent photo's of the affected area's, after many emails back and forward, Janda have said sorry can't help, you are out of your warranty period. The suite was ordered and paid for, IN FULL BLACK EMPIRE LEATHER which took 14 weeks to make.Unknown to me a very cheap bicast was substituted in area's where the peel/flaking is occurring. This suite has always been maintained to the manafacturers instructions. The Suite will be taken to the DUMP, and guess what brand I won't be purchasing next.

I purchased the Janda Bondi suite in 2006. Every single cushion over a period of 12 months had to be taken back and replaced with a waiting time of 3-4 months each time. 3 of the 4 cushions were replaced with another inferior cushion. In disgust I gave up. It didnt help that the company I purchased it from ( Dooners in Armidale) were clueless about the product . In fact they got sick of me coming in and I believe they thought I was being pedantic. Now all cushions are ripping and peeling as well as the ends of each of the back cushions. I am totally disgusted in the product and tell everyone I know NOT to buy Janda. Yes I looked after the lounge as instructed purchasing expensive products to keep it clean and oiled. I will NEVER purchase any products made or buy anything from any company associated with Janda.

WOW! So many complaints, why am I not suprised, all with the same issues like myself. I have been through 4yrs of hell with my $5000 Janda Madison lounge suite. The frame has snapped on a few occasions, the leather has small cracks just on one lounge, 2 small peel spots after the lounge was 12mths old to be told "Sorry it's just out of warranty for that". I have been waiting months for the 5th repair, and we only just got it back in January, 1 recliner is on a right hand lean and wasn't opening properly since we got it back, now the wire has broken to be told "Sorry, out of warranty for that" again, even thought it was a problem that seemed to happen since they had it in for repair. The other recliner feels as though the springs are sagging when you sit on it and very rickety. The 2.5 seater just sags when you sit on it and leaves huge gaps in the back. Harvey Norman Franchise owner came out for a visit to look at the lounge to notice my 3yo 20kg daughter flop down on the lounge and now she is apperently to blame for the lounge condition. If these lounges can't handle a small child on them, what does that say for the quality? After all the frustrating tears I've had over this lounge, you would think they care but they don't. They have pretty much told us to go jump! Shame on both you companies, and I will be taking this much further!

OMG! All these negative comments. Maybe I got on here in the nick of time and will save myself money, and stress too! I looked at the Janda York Modular Suede lounge that looks great and comfortable. Havey Norman have them for $1799 including Ottoman. I only sat & lay on it in the store and I thought it was very comfy and am considering purchasing one. Now I'm in two minds. A lounge suite should last many years, not just 2 or 3 because it begins to fall apart. Does anyone here have the modular style and if so, what is your experience with it please? Thanks.
