We bought an expensive black leather lounge a 2 seater and 3 seater from harvey norman cairns it was a janda lounge, after 3 years the leather cracked and the frame broke, they sent an inspector out that said the blame was 50 /50, we have cared for the lounge as recommended since purchase, they offered to repair it if we sent it back to brisbane 2000 klms away at our expense, they can go jump, never ever buy janda rubbish again, we should have bought a cheaper, it would have lasted better than janda! Janda is crap !

We purchased our 2 single recliner & 3 seat recliner from Harvey Norman Bundall about 8 years ago, Has been okay till last year when the footrest started to peel and also the backs of the single recliners are splitting and peeling as well. Two of the cushions have lost their colour from black to brown. I have argued that they are falsely advertising 100% Cowhide leather, however as I cant find my initial receipt they cant locate my details of the purchase.
Has anyone had any luck making a claim against Janda or had their lounges repaired or replaced.

Guys I am a tradesman with 30 yrs experience in furniture manufacture and design. Almost without exception, major franchises import leather lounges with 'split', 'reconstituted' or 'bonded' leather. Leather has different grades - A, B, C. Whatever they call it, it isn't what the customer has been led to believe he is buying - Leather! We tradesmen are as angry as the public at the posturing of these jokers and the lengths they will go, to avoid warranty issues. I gave up my role with one of Australia's largest manufacturers as a claims assessor as I could not stomach the poor quality of the initial product and poor workmanship by unqualified labourers followed by the inability or preparedness to do what is right at point of return. They should be ashamed, the diggers and Anzac's would be! Australian made- what a joke! Find yourself a local tradesman (with Trade papers to prove he is one!) And pay him to build you a bespoke piece that is truly made with Australian hands - in Australia!

Steer clear of the York lounge. We purchased the York Lounge last July. One year in and the lounge seat cushions material sags, the cushions have all but lost their plumpness. The spring material is coming away from the back of the couch. Yes, it does get used daily however we take pride in our furniture and our last lounge lasted 13 years and still looked great when we gave it away (Australian made). This has been a waste of $2000 (inclduing extra protection) and will never purchase their brand again. It will be interesting to see what it does when dry cleaned under the extra protection we took.

Thanks for all the advice, we were headind back to Harvey Norman to purchase a Janda Saint Clair Lounge tomorrow. We sat on numerous lounges today and the Janda was the best. However from all these comments itbis not worth the risk to investbin something which will fail after a couple of years. Can anyone recommend a good quality lounge?

I purchased The Hustler recliner suite, which was delivered just before Christmas last year. The whole family love it! In January I noticed a huge gap between the back and seat when reclined in the lounge, I reprted this to Harvey Norman and The lounge was replaced in April. The second lounge lasted 3 months. The metal frame was warped and the left side of the lounge was leaning over and also stitching was coming undone in a seam. Again I contacted Harvey Norman, the lounge was inspected and I was told someone would collect the loung (just the back of it) and it would be repaired. After consideration I called the store and insisted on a new lounge. They delivered a new lounge 4 weeks ago, which is slightly darker than the chairs and much firmer. Tonight as a sat on the lounge I heard a huge crack. I looked under the seat and the main support bar which is timber has snapped right where there is a large knot in the wood. I am considering requesting a refund as I do not want to be replacing my lounge every few months...has any one else had issues with The Hustler? Perhaps the lounge is aptly named!

Could anyone give me any information on the Janda Tribune lounges? Husband and I were in Harvey Normans today and must say they look and feel fantastic however they were a bit pricey. After reading all the above comments I am definitely in two minds about buying Janda now -and I have ALWAYS been wary about buying from HN!

These are my white leather Janda Lounges I bought in 1990. They have many a drunken night, wild parties moving from different towns, kids you name it they have had a bit of a flogging I clean them twice a year. I am just about to buy 2 Janda york
sofas from Harvey Norman Bennetts Green NSW I hope they can handle a fair bit of treatment as well.

DONT ever buy a FLORENTINO lounge from VIP Furniture, Cairns. We purchased a 3 and 2 seater recliner lounge in August 2011. By March 2012 the 3 seater stitching had come away from one of the foot sections and wadding had separated and seats had collapsed leaving my husband with his backside almost touching the floor (he's not a fat bloke). We contacted VIP (trish) who'd only informed Janda of stitching only. weeks went by. I contacted the [email protected] email box and gave a full precis of the issues with limited followup. we even invited VIP to come out and see the issues. VIP then told us that Janda agreed to the faults. However when we got it back from VIP only the stitching was fixed not the seats. When we queried this VIP said "ohh we didn't know about this". I'd told them Janda certainly did and have email trail to prove. Attempts to have this resolved are non existent with the inspection company "Coastal Coverings" saying in their report that this was normal "wear and tear" what!! in 8 months in a careful home. they stated that we should sit on the middle seat... what a joke!!! they also recommended that if we wanted this fixed we'd have to pay for it. However VIP picked up our Lounge from Coastal Coverings even before they contacted us... definitely something strange going on here.
I've spoken to Michelle at Janda who assured me that she would follow through. to date no contact. I phoned today (12.07.2012) in an attempt to escalate to Complaints Manager to discover that it's the same person... My husband suffers from degenerative disc disease after a lifetime of carrying around patients and despite my appeals to Janda for resolution they have not acted. the above are factual accounts that can be evidenced.

I purchased a Janda lounge suite about 5 years ago. I recently had cause to contact Janda to get a new trigger for one of therecliners. This tuned out to be a small nightmare! Originally when I contacted the firm I spoke to Michelle and after telling her my problem she requested some information so that she could send me the right product. After this I did not hear from Janda for a couple of weeks (Michelle was on holidays). When I nex contacted Janda I encountered Jason. He got the same information, as he could not access Michelle's email and he promised that the trigger would be sent when I notified him that the payment for the trigger had been made. After a number of follow up phone calls asking where the trigger was I got the response that it had been sent (by Express Post no less). This normally takes a day, two at the most. I got the tracking number of the item and found that this was number was for someone else in another state! The information came from Jason. I again contacted Janda and got Michelle, returned from hols, and she tokk up the issue again and I had the trigger the next day. Jason followed up with an email asking for a confirmed address so he could send a trigger the day I got the one from Michelle. I suppose I should be happy I got what I needed but I should not have had to go through the hoops I did just for something as simple as that

I wish I had read all these comments before we purchased our Florentino settees in October 2008 from Harvey Norman Cairns. After 3 years one of the handrests on the 2 seater settee was turned in so the recliner was sticking. I contacted a local furniture repairer to have a look at it. He believed that the repair would be minor so I didn't do a warranty claim. When the furniture repairer pulled the leather and foam from the settee the frame where the armrest is located had been smashed which could only have been caused in transit when we initially purchased it. The furniture repairer called us to go to his workshop to see for ourselves so that we could see the damage and the poor quality materials used in the frame. The so called marine-bonded ply is more like balsa wood and the frame is stapled - not a screw in sight. In one area the staple gun musn't have been working because there are numerous dents in the pine frame. To cut a long story short, we had the settee repaired by the local repairer and when I contacted Janda to make a claim under warranty the reply was that I should have contacted the store of purchase and they will not honour my warranty claim because I did not follow the warranty claim guidelines for repair. Am I surprised after reading all the previous comments. I agree it is a waste of money to purchase Janda furniture if you are expecting a quality product.

    Dear Comfy
You have probably already purchased something by now, but just in case you were still considering the York I would advise steering clear.
Look, it honestly does clean up beautifully and I have had some experience with that due to being the parent of 4 young children. It is also quite comfortable, I cannot complain about that either. But the quality is just not there. Ours is 2.5 years old and a spring has already broken through and poked up into the cushions above. Sure if it was in the area my husband likes to sit, or right in the middle it might make some sense, but it is over near the edge. Where the view of the TV is least satisfactory and where no-one subsequently sits. The cushions are coming unstitched. And the wood feet have all peeled. My children are not rough, they get in trouble very quickly if they try to put their feet on it or jump around, and the heaviest of the 3 younger and sillier ones is still only 14kgs so highly unlikely to make much of a dint. The suites feet are tucked under and I tend to move the suite and vacuum under there on specific occasions rather than regularly. In other words I don't bang the vacuum cleaner into the feet. Nothing touches them, they should not be damaged. Yet they look atrocious. The corner where my husband sits (approx 80kgs) has practically collapsed. It sinks in. After only 2 years!!
I had an original Moran suite prior to the Janda. One my parents purchased over 30 years ago. I had it recovered and used it for 10 years including for 6 years with my children. I got rid of it in perfect condition. To update to something more stylish. Silliest thing I ever did. Oh, except for wasting my money on a Janda suite.

Dear Comfy, personally I would be going anywhere near Janda or Harvey Norman. Once they have your money they don't care after that, even when your legally entitled to your money back after the first repair. Then you have to fight them in court to get it! A huge risk if you do, one I wouldn't be taking. They know about all the complaints of the same issues about their lounges, Jason from Janda has been on here and seen them all and commented, but they still refuse to do what's right and take the b;ame for their crap lounges. They still are happy to charge top dollar and take your money. I have considered about going to Current Afair about this and letting them know that Mr Harvey really doesn't give a damn about how his fellow Australian customers are being treated. It's all greed and money to them, loyalty and consideration left that company a long time ago.

OMG! All these negative comments. Maybe I got on here in the nick of time and will save myself money, and stress too! I looked at the Janda York Modular Suede lounge that looks great and comfortable. Havey Norman have them for $1799 including Ottoman. I only sat & lay on it in the store and I thought it was very comfy and am considering purchasing one. Now I'm in two minds. A lounge suite should last many years, not just 2 or 3 because it begins to fall apart. Does anyone here have the modular style and if so, what is your experience with it please? Thanks.

Wow! THANK YOU ALL. You have saved me wasting a lot of time and money both in buying a janda product and going to harvey norman. My past experience with harvey norman in the last 12 months is that their adds are "misleading"...they are not the cheapes tin the cairns region when it comes to laptops, dishwashers, flat screen tv'sand washing machines and have no interest in matching competitors prices.john h.

Jason I received your message to call you just before i left for USA for a 3 month holiday. I am now back and seriously I do not have the time to waste with anyone from Janda as I know the experience will be no different to my first experience. I will be moving to the USA within the next 12 months and have already resigned myself to the fact that I will have to giveaway the lounge or dump it as it is now 5 years old and totally worthless

WOW!!! So many complaints, why am I not suprised, all with the same issues like myself. I have been through 4yrs of hell with my $5000 Janda Madison lounge suite. The frame has snapped on a few occasions, the leather has small cracks just on one lounge, 2 small peel spots after the lounge was 12mths old to be told "Sorry it's just out of warranty for that". I have been waiting months for the 5th repair, and we only just got it back in January, 1 recliner is on a right hand lean and wasn't opening properly since we got it back, now the wire has broken to be told "Sorry, out of warranty for that" again, even thought it was a problem that seemed to happen since they had it in for repair. The other recliner feels as though the springs are sagging when you sit on it and very rickety. The 2.5 seater just sags when you sit on it and leaves huge gaps in the back. Harvey Norman Franchise owner came out for a visit to look at the lounge to notice my 3yo 20kg daughter flop down on the lounge and now she is apperently to blame for the lounge condition. If these lounges can't handle a small child on them, what does that say for the quality?? After all the frustrating tears I've had over this lounge, you would think they care but they don't. They have pretty much told us to go jump! Shame on both you companies, and I will be taking this much further!

Thanks all for comments as I was looking at puchasing 2 x Janda single chair seats at Harvey Norman for ($1000ea) in Ballarat. But sounds like it is a very poor quality, service and product. Well I'll move on. If Janda is a good product and wants to standby their name. Suggest they make an effort with servicing their clients .. Goodby, next shop..

I purchased the Janda Bondi suite in 2006. Every single cushion over a period of 12 months had to be taken back and replaced with a waiting time of 3-4 months each time. 3 of the 4 cushions were replaced with another inferior cushion. In disgust I gave up. It didnt help that the company I purchased it from ( Dooners in Armidale) were clueless about the product . In fact they got sick of me coming in and I believe they thought I was being pedantic. Now all cushions are ripping and peeling as well as the ends of each of the back cushions. I am totally disgusted in the product and tell everyone I know NOT to buy Janda. Yes I looked after the lounge as instructed purchasing expensive products to keep it clean and oiled. I will NEVER purchase any products made or buy anything from any company associated with Janda.

Puchased a six seater Janda suit just on five years ago, 18 months ago it started to peel/flake and in the last couple of months it has fallen off in clumps.Contacted Janda and sent photo's of the affected area's, after many emails back and forward, Janda have said sorry can't help, you are out of your warranty period. The suite was ordered and paid for, IN FULL BLACK EMPIRE LEATHER which took 14 weeks to make.Unknown to me a very cheap bicast was substituted in area's where the peel/flaking is occurring. This suite has always been maintained to the manafacturers instructions. The Suite will be taken to the DUMP, and guess what brand I won't be purchasing next.

I have nothing but good words for the Janda lounge furniture I bought at Amart Port Macquarie almost 10 years ago ... a 3 three-seater and 2 recliners. They have had an incredible amount of use and before my wife died just over 3 years ago I slept in one of the recliners beside her bed every night for 12 months. I am just about to pay $6, 000 to have the suite recovered to go into the new home I have bought at Port Macquarie with the new lady in my life. Note from the attached pictures that the covering is not leather and will never be leather ... far TOO HOT!

Frame problems with our Janda lounge (leather still good) within 2 years of purchase - cannot use one footrest and the other is starting to stick due to (I assume) sagging frame. Janda will fix it, but we have to pay transport costs - apparently they only cover transportation within the first year after purchase - definitely NOT impressed. If we had bought a cheap Fantastic lounge I might have accepted that you only get what you pay for!

I am on the net to find the new Janda contact details. We bought a leather suite in about 1990 in Shepparton. It went from there to Central Queensland, then North Queensland then South Queensland and then SE Queensland. All this involved about seven removals over the time. The frame is still ridgy didge but leather on just two cushion tops on couch has fallen apart in the last few years plus one arm has a small hole. There are some typical leather wear cracks elsewhere like on the old time leather couches. Ours were made in Australia. Obviously the quality has gone way south while the place of manufacture has moved way, way North since we purchased. I was about to see if they could do repairs... after reading all the above, I won't bother now!!
I like the idea of the wooden box! Bought a two seater a couple of years ago in Hervey Bay. The foam does not hold its integrity - beware of back problems on old foam cushions of the modern era!

We too bought the Bondi Suite approx 4 years ago, we also had the same problem with the leather peeling(leather yeah right!), my husband rang Harvey Norman in Cranbourne where we purchased it from only to get the run around. The lady there was helpful at trying to sort the problem out but i think she was getting the run around from Janda and didn't know what to tell us. After losts and losts of phone calls from my husband they finally got back to us they decided to send us two new cushion covers for the suite, this was no good as other parts of the suite had started to peel. My husband would not give up with the complaints when you spend $5000 on a lounge suite you expect it to be perfect! Next line of action was we could send the lounge suite back to Qld and pay to have it recovered, my husband said you have to be joking! So he kept on complaining, we now have our lounge suite fully cover in a different leather not bicast which is all the crap leather put into one. It ended up costing us nothing and had it recovered in Melbourne. As for ever buying a Janda lounge again, I'd rather buy a wooden box to sit on!!!

I purchased a Janda lounge suite from Pullins in Maitland about four and a half years ago.
The leather is cracking and peeling, plus the frame is broken on one arm.
Had I paid $1500 dollars I would not complain, but I paid $5000 and won't ever buy another Janda Product again.

We too have the BONDI and I was really happy when Janda offered to re-upholster all our lounges (even the undamaged ones). They sent a new leather sample and while there were lots of delays in getting the leather in the country a couple of months ago we organised to send our lounge up to Brisbane to be recovered at their cost. Should I be surprised after reading all these comments? - I am really unhappy with the shoddy job on the covering. The cushions are all misshapen and the contrast white is much whiter than in the original lounge. Leather also looks cheap and nasty. I keep looking at how much we spent on this lounge which I thought we would have for 20-30 years and I am so disappointed. Interested to hear from anyone else who has had their lounge re-upholstered.
