I’ve been driving for three years, never had an accident. January if this year a board flew off of a flatbed semi and shattered my windshield. I called my dispatcher who then had claims called. Reassuring me twice that they would appeal it the semi didn’t stop nor could I drive. Horizon kept telling me they couldn’t get the cad report. I got the cad report to send to them and still told me not enough information. Stated the caller was a witness. Horizon then wanted me to drive it to the next exit with a shattered windshield. Still charging me deductibles and plate fee even though I stated I wasn’t driving until they got it straightened out. I get the run around all the time. Think twice before you go, if your unit got damaged due to wind they would tell you it was in your possession.
Desired outcome: 4 months and still get the run around. All they care about it your money.
Job opportunity
Dave L's posting is spot on. I 'retired' after 25 yrs as a deputy sheriff. My son-in-law, an O/O semi driver, told me about Horizon. I applied online & was accepted. Traded my Taurus for an F350 dually, bought all required equipment, and headed to IN.
Orientation was a mess; very disorganized. Paid $1500 damage deposit, $25 drug test, $50 for tags, and $20 for magnetic placards. Absolutely hated the 'job' from first haul. Considered an "independent contractor", but nothing independent about it. Between DOT regs and Horizon policies, the only thing driver has control over is which load to take (and that's greatly restricted until you hit 25, 000 loaded miles.
I quit in March '16 after 28, 000 loaded miles. Last straw was a trailer tire blowout that was a ##### to fix on side of road. Thought of returning a few times, then think about how much I hated doing it and abandon the thought. Bottom line: they are constantly processing new drivers. There must be a reason for that.
Driver - USDOT 2318092
Filthy older gentleman (50s/60s), was about to miss his turn during rush hour in a major US city so he cut across 2 lanes of traffic and ran 2 cars on to the exit ramp shoulder. The car in front of me caught up to him and flipped him off, and I watched the driver weave back and forth across the left lane and 3rd lane for about 2 miles while he flipped off the driver HE'D cut off. This guy made me ashamed to be a driver and represents exactly what the general public hates about truck drivers on the road. Horizon really needs to raise their hiring standards.

- Horizontransport.co has relatively low traffic compared to other websites, it could be due to a niche focus, but could also indicate a potential lack of traffic and popularity. The horizontransport.co may offer a niche product or service that is only of interest to a smaller audience.
- Horizon Transport protects their ownership data, a common and legal practice. However, from our perspective, this lack of transparency can impede trust and accountability, which are essential for establishing a credible and respected business entity.
0 Tolerance Policy
For anyone thinking of driving with Horizon Transport, as of July 1 they have a zero tolerance on any log violations. You will be fired regardless of tenure or history of no violations. My husband was fired due to something being omitted from their out-dated log software. Just one press of the enter key was the cause. He received no fines from the inspection station. His history of points was 0. So to those thinking of joining Horizon, I would suggest don't. For those already working with Horizon, you work just got alot harder and I would suggest having something else lined up.
Not a complaint....an observation
I have been an independent contractor with Horizon since July 2007. There have been busy times and VERY slow times. If you have a family and think that you will be able to provide for them alone, it will be difficult. If your overhead is low and you can survive on about a 36% profit from each run, then it is a very rewarding thing to do.
There are always difficulties in this profession as the company (Horizon) does not have control when a unit is pulled or if the unit is not road worthy. There are times when you try and plan an outbound load and get a re-load. Re-loads are unpredictable and can be misleading. As in any business there are "bugs" but in my opinion Horizon has tried to iron those bugs out. Is everyone going to be happy...no, but after talking to other drivers from other transport companies, Horizon surpasses the other companies.
My advise is that if you are not content with this company, go elsewhere. I have chosen to stick with one transport company and that is Horizon Transport.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Years of service, how they mistreat drivers
After reading blogs from other former horizon transport drivers, i have felt to be inclined to post my experiences as a drive away driver prior to, during and after my years with horizon transport. I first got into the drive away business in 8 / 1994 for morgan driveaway after being in o. T. R. Semi tractor trailer driving since 2 / 1989. My years with morgan driveaway went fairly smooth from 1994 through 9 / 2002 with the exceptions of a few minor accidents i was fairly liked by the management, staff and drivers of this company. Towards the last year with this company (Before they went bankrupt) i was asked to join in a dedicated division account to service a new customer new flyer city busses based in s. T. Cloud m. N. And crookston m. N. Managed by a dispatcher by the name of denny founts. Relunctant at first, i eventually decided to join on (They wouldn't leave me alone until i agreed to do so) . At this time, i was still considered as a driver employee. Fuel was still around from $0. 89 c. P. G. To $1. 00 c. P. G. Things went fairly well up until 9 / 2002, without too much forewarned notice morgan driveaway ceased operations and prepared to go bankrupt. I found myself without a job and very little settlement money to go home to my house in mason city i. L. (Which, just a month before, i had closed a deal on to buy) . Meanwhile denny founts had decided to take a job with horizon transport and take the new flyer city bus account with him over to this company. Once set up with horizon transport, he began calling up his former dedicated driving staff from morgan driveaway to follow him over there. I, being without a job and no income, decided to follow him over, even though it ment declaring myself as a contract driver instead of a driver employee. The first year or so at horizon transport went well although after a while denny founts had a falling out with the management with this company and either left or was asked to leave (I never knew which, or what eventually happend) . Shortly after this happened, horizon transport either gave up or lost the new flyer bus account. With denny founts gone, i also lost some inside support within the company but kept on to deliver motorhomes, trucks and busses. Under dispatcher mark blank. Business went fairly well the first few years under mark blank. After awhile though i started having a few accidents, some chargeable back to me, others not my fault. Majority of them in truckstop parking lots, none on the road (None d. O. T. Chargeable) some were failure to write up on my bill of lading at the time of pretrip visual defects already on the units and would be charged for them also. My last trip for horizon transport was in 12 / 2007. I picked up a motorhome at the wakarusa terminal going to bakersfield c. A. Got caught in an ice storm in oklahoma city o. K. Had to shutdown for 3 days before continuning on. Delivered late to bakersfield. Met another pickup driver at time of delivery (Who drove for another company) he was going straight back to elkhart i. N. I accepteda ride back. On the way back i found out that dispatch had a bobtail truck in l. A. C. A. To come back to the midwest i refused dispatch because it was a used bobtail tractor and due to weather conditions on the way out, i was afraid of problems getting it back to delivery destionation. On the way back, i got the message that i was to call safety and that there was no hurry to talk to them. When i did call them when i was accross the border back in indana, i was told by saftey that they had been reviewing my saftey record and that they had found six chargable accidents within the six year history of me driving for them and that there limit was only three, reguardless of how many years i had been with them. I had averaged 75000 miles per year with them every year. Due to the accident record, they could no longer use my services. I arrived back in wakarusa terminal and was told to come in to see mr. Drill seargent safety man tomorrow. The next day, i met with mr. Drill seargent safety man, and he repeated what he had said on the phone, and that a settlement would be made as soon as i turned in all my company equipment of which i did. The settlement amounted to $350. 00 to last me until i got home and found another job! I got home with less then $350. 00 and had to pay house payment car payment insurances utiliy bill and other bills etc. Did'nt find another job until1 / 17 / 08 in a factory. Since this incident i am no longer in a drive away career no o. T. R. Semi tractor trailer company will hire me because all my o. T. R. Driving experience since 1994 has been in the drive away business. And most companies now require at least the last 90 days in a semi tractor trailer cab to be concidered employable (Due to thier insurance companies requirements) . Spring 2008, i hired in at a fertilizer company in my hometown of mason city i. L. To fill anhydrous amonia tank trailers and to drive a tender truck to tender sprayers out in the field. This job lasts from late march through 1st of july every year. Summertime i go to a potato farm and driv a potato truck in and out of the field loaded with potatoes. This lasts from july 1st through aug. 15 th. In the fall, i dump grain trucks for the fertilizer company that i work for in the spring and alsowork for them during thier fall fertilizer season. Since i am declared part time employee, i can draw unemployment through the winter months. Due to my blacklisted history with horizon transport, i will probably never agin will drive o. T. R. For a trucking company or a drive awawy company ever again.
There is a driver David Worley who drives for horizon Transport. He has been a diabetic and won’t take his medicine. He continues to drive for them, have seizure from not taking his medication, wrecks units, and then lyes to them about it. He’s still there. He has been told by several medical doctors not to drive since he’s got feet issues, is riddled with mRSA, and sleeps on or in the motor home beds. Yet horizon keeps him on. I hope he doesn’t kill someone on the highway when he goes into one of his episodes.
Me and my Wife were doing OK with Horizon until I got into an argument with Jade in there Oregon department. He called Wakarusa and told them to get rid of us. Even being with them for several years and not one damage claim or accident, they terminated are contracts without question. They won't listen to reason, and I would not recommend anyone work for them. Wish I would've read up on Horizon before going to them. You don't find many good comments.
The very crux of Horizon is a scam. They lie, steal by deception and it is laughable to listen to their message on their main line. The way to punish them is to keep copies of your deliveries and reach out to those that hired Horizon in the first place. In addition, show up at orientation on day two and catch drivers on the way up to the restaurant 2nd floor. Let them know what they're getting into. If Horizon gets black balled in the industry and no one will drive for them, they WILL be run out of business. It is, as you elude to, a scam, plain and simple. Sure, you'll see a few brown noses respond, but at some point, they'll also suffer what we all have.
I Was a driver, both tow away, and drive away for about two years. I never had any issues with them until I left. You will clear about .30 a mile after expenses on a long run. Some short ones will leave you digging in your pocket. When I left them in May I was told I had no claims against me, and my damage deposit was returned in full. November 1 I recieved an invoice claiming I owed 841.00 for damage to a unite delivered almost 15 months prior in Augist of 13. I told them I found it impossible to believe that no one saw that much damage when I delivered it; they go over these things with a fine tooth comb. They are insisting that I pay this; I told them we just needed to go to court, that this was insane.
my wife and i have been driving for Horizen for a few months...so far they are treating us with respect and professionalism..I would recomend this company to anyone who enjoys life on the road...Harvey and Noreen Kertzman., , , , .Quincy Mass
Like Mr. Seller, my husband and my brother in law worked for Horizon Transport twice in the last few years. The first time they worked for this company was in [protected]. This time, they were there almost a year for my husband and a little over a year for my brother in law. We have also had my father in law and another brother in law that worked for Horizon. On March 8, 2012, my husband and brother in law were involved in a 9 vehicle pileup in Denton Texas on I-35 S. My brother in law was vehicle # 5 and my husband was Vehicles 8 &9 (our tow vehicle was attached to motor coach). After much talk, both were told they were not at fault by Texas DOT. Horizon kept telling us no jobs would be lost. Recently, we recieved a phone call stating that altho our guys were not at fault, they were being deleased. My brother in law has over $7000 worth of medical bills and we no longer have a vehicle. Our guys were not given a "thanks for your service" "we'll help you" or anything. They were not given ANY pay at all. The only thing they were told was that because of the amount of loss(Both coaches were totaled) thier insurance company would not cover unless the guys were deleased. The guys were told they could come back after they had logged 50, 000 miles with a different company. Not that they want to. Every company my husband has talked to, wants to know why he was deleased from Horizon if the accident was deemed not to be his fault. When he explains the insurance part, companies act as if he's lying and says that doesn't sound right. As of now, we have lost a vehicle( we had liability on it), my brother in law is unemployed and my husband feels like Horizon has black balled both he and his brother. When they worked for Horizon, they were told repeatedly that they were a great asset to the company. My husband is working 2 part time jobs to help ends meet. Horizon has been a very big disappointment to our families. Thier driver quals were kept .They will never work or endorse this company again.Marion, I think your dad would turn in his grave to know the way you treat your drivers.
Expensive hobby!
Instead of making a living like many recruiters will tell you, it turns out to be a very expensive hobby. The job is transporting RV's and I was in the tow away (trailers) division. I was told that I could make a living by their recruiter, but after working my butt off and driving my expensive diesel pickup into the ground I have nothing to show for it except for $6000 debt, 95,000 additional miles on my '06 Duramax pickup, a broken windshield and another $1000 in repairs needed. I did see a lot of new country, although at a blur, because you have no time to enjoy the trip.
Here is the downside: You need a pretty new diesel, which will run close to $40,000, another $2-3K of equipment, travel to and spend close to 1 week in Indiana, pay $1K for damage deposit, which can go for the smallest scratch, whether you did it or not, at which time they collect another $1500 for your next potential scratch and then $4 a gallon fuel when in Canada.
I could go on and on, but suffice it to say we came out on the short end of the stick to the tune of thousands. Avoid this work unless you are financially set, very bored and want to drive a lot and have someone else pay for the fuel and food.
One last thing, out of the dozen or so Horizon drivers that I talked to on the road, none were happy with the company or the way they were treated. They talk like they love their drivers, but you won't feel the love for long, if at all.
I just go my new 2yr DOT physical=just wear glasses. And, renewed my Class A with every endorsement except HazMat. Wanting to return after 4 years off from driving. I am foot loose and free to live anywhere. So, I want outbound single units (anything I can tow my little new Versa with). Tractors; Motor Homes; School Buses; and etc. DriveAway units towing my car mostly east and west I-40 and below please. I will go to Elkhart IN for motorhomes. Then pick up Bluebirds school buses at Fort Valley, GA and go to Tulsa to pick up School buses going to Elkhart IN. This is just an example. Is this example possible? I will be moving out of New Mexico to be where the most outbound singles are located. I hope 77 is not too old for their insurance companies. [protected] for Erwin.Vasily@gmail.com Thanks!

I was considering going to horizon to get out of the hotshot business but sounds like they are the same type of crooks that are running all the RV drive away and camper hauling businesses. I can make money in the hotshot business but sounds like I wouldn't doing driveways. I know I couldn't in hauling RVs, been there and tried that. If you try hotshot make sure you are ready to go about 3-4 years to get a customer base built up. And STAY AWAY FROM U SHIP. They are there to rip you off also and not offer ANY support. If you are wondering why I want out of hotshot if I'm making money it's the same as hauling RVs, lots of miles on my own truck and the wife can't ride in it very long. I'll keep doing hotshot after reading the reviews on here. I know I can net around 1500 a week, ( remember, be ready for 3-4 years to build that customer base) if it wasn't for them I'd be broke. You will need the good ole DOT numbers and MC numbers, run logs, keep records, cross scales and be ready for inspections on the road and at home. Oh yah, they WILL audit you. I try to keep my deadhead short which is usually under a hundred miles and most time within 50 miles. I don't work hard and don't need to as I have a retirement coming in and less than a year from now social security.
I am currently considering selling the business with truck, trailer, company name which has a terrific reputation from the east out to Colorado and up in Minnesota so I can spend more time at home with family and grandson and do some actual camping since I bought a camper this year.
If anyone has any questions about hotshot or interested in buying the business, and I will include help in getting you rolling and switched over with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, plus switch over my email address and phone contact and with all the contacts I have shoot me an e mail: shadowhaulingandtransport@rocketmail.com or shadowj2011@yahoo.com
Transport or Transportation is the movement of people, animals and goods from one location to another. Modes of transport include air, rail, road, water, cable, pipeline and space. The field can be divided into infrastructure, vehicles and operations. Transport is important because it enables trade between persons, which is essential for the development of civilizations
I'm a single woman trying to make it in this world. I do what's asked of me and am 100% incident free with Horizon. I now sit in a hotel room eating away at any profit I've made waiting for a run while the "favored shuttle crew" reaps the benefits. There's one gal and her crew that get the high paying runs. I think Horizon needs to rethink this pattern. I've heard the horror stories where Horizon has their hands in the driver's till, a fee for this and a fee for that, taking their $1, 500 for items discovered AFTER the dealer spends hours inspecting a unit, signs off with No Driver Damage, then comes back later and BAM their $1, 500 is gone. This hasn't happened to me, but I know a few drivers that it has. I'm pretty sure there's a legal issue in there somewhere but I've also heard that if you mention the word "lawyer" you are terminated. Horizon's done me pretty good so far, but now I'm worrying that I need to find another company because I'm sitting around, while the favored are keeping busy.
Horizon is great! I have worked for them 2yrs. Pays all of our bills plus a lot more. I have a master's degree in counseling and am making more money doing this. Great company! Family and employee oriented. Don't let the disgruntled and ignorant dissuade you. Honest people who put the effort in will prosper. This is a GREAT life!
Have NEVER read ANY reviews Lower than the ones for Horizon Transport . WOW! And that Sucks because im just a few weeks from my orientation date with them in there Flat Bed Division. Can anyone Tell me the TRUTH about that Part of that company ? Have a New 1 ton & 40ft dove tail flatbed. Thanks !
now horizon pays around 1.5 per mile always divide by 2 U need to come back- wouldn't count for reloads .
so its 75 cents per mile loaded 12 miles 3.7$ gallon it's 30 cents operate one mile when You coming back empty 20 mpg going 62mph. its 20 cents. so average fuel is 25 cents operating cost then oil change, new tires, truck payment, loss value because of mileage other repairs. U sleep in truck to save money. u make 25 cents a mile round trip. with speed 62 mph its 15$ an hour for sleeping in truck like dog on back seat?
drivers should have unions or something and we don't drive for less than 1.8 $ per mile.
when U see drivers not only horizon everybody all retired already doing sightseeing. can't do leaving of it.
don't mention reloads drivers are so desperate to take them so fifth wheel trailer 12 pounds on way back pays 70 cents per mile!
Horizon is a HORRIBLE company to work with and the guy running the drive away division is the lowest. Also, all of the money you make goes straight back into the fuel or food costs. Our savings and everything was nearly depleted within the few months we worked for them. My husband(a Class A driver who wanted to try out something new) and I were dispatched the wrong RV's, but we were talked into keeping them. It wasn't anything horrible. However, it took several days before our trip advances were loaded onto our Comdata cards(I don't know if it was them or Comdata, but we needed to make sure we were being paid for this), so we were stuck in the campers for several days, waiting on the money during the worst heat wave of 2013. We notified them, updating them on the situation so they knew what was happening and they kept saying everything was fine. No sooner the money was on the cards, we delivered the loads and the drive-away manager just up and "fired" us with no hint of a warning at all(they can do this by the way, because you're a "contractor" so they don't have to worry about certain rules like other companies with normal employees-- I've seen Walmart treat their employees better). We would have been stranded several states away if we didn't have our tow vehicle with us. Then, several weeks later, the division manager tried to say there was a problem with a camper and charge us for it? Thank God for their adamant tips of using your cell phone for pictures because I have the proof they were in good shape when we delivered! TAKE PICTURES!
If my experience with Horizon did any good for me, it was that I got to see the country side and reconnect with what I really wanted out of life(travelling, not being chained to my home/city), and I'm now driving a Semi and actually having a decent driving career. The old saying is true, that your mistakes/experiences are your best teachers. Seriously, skip this horrible excuse of a company(and others of the like-- these SCAMS are everywhere in that area!); the only pocket that gets lined from your hard work is theirs. And if you still want to drive, get your CDL and make sure the company you go with is reputable.
