Hair Club is a SCAM – PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY! The following is my saga with hair club, an organization that claims to help people with hair loss but robs them blind of their money, time, and hope. As a woman with hormonal and genetic hair loss I have been desperate to keep my hair, trying anything and everything possible – you name it, I have tried it. In desperation I turned to Hair Club to see if they had any hair loss prevention methods I had yet to explore. After over an hour of listening to their sales pitch of providing topical treatments, beauty salon products and beautician services, as well as in-office laser cap treatment, I was sold on their “genetic testing” option. According to Hair Club, their genetic testing helps you to pinpoint your hair loss issues on a cellular level, working with a medical professional to read your report and identify the best options for your hair loss based upon your genetics. Instantly I was sold – who wouldn’t want to find the cause and not just alleviate symptoms. Based upon this promise, I used my credit card to purchase genetic testing and six months worth of “treatment” – after taxes and fees, it was approximately $3200. A large sum of money I did not have but I was willing to accumulate this debt to get solid genetic answers to my hair loss.
The genetic testing results take two weeks to complete. Guess what else happens within those two weeks – your limited ability to cancel Hair Club. You only have two weeks to cancel the service – this is already a scam because everyone knows that even without the genetic testing, you will never see hair growth results in two weeks. I return to the office shortly after my test results are available with the promise that I will have a teleconference with a medical professional to guide me through the results. I log on to their laptop to find that there is no medical professional, it is a chatbot. Now I am beyond angry. The ONLY reason I spent $3200 that I did not have was to speak to a medical professional who would discuss my genetic test results with me, and they gave me a chatbot. When I refused to continue with the appointment, they said that there is a medical professional who is behind the chatbot. Why couldn’t I just speak to a medical professional? Then they claim that they cannot employ medical professionals because they do not want medical records, they do not want to deal with HIPAA. Perhaps you should have thought of that when you decided to commence genetic testing.
I immediately left and threatened to sue them if they could not produce the medical professional they told me would be available during their sales pitch. I spoke to the office manager and a representative from Corporate who both told me that I could not cancel, nor could I get my money back, as I was outside of the two week window. Clearly this is fraudulent and deceitful behavior.
As I could not cancel and get my money back, I decided to give them another chance, as I had just spent a ton of money on this service. During my second appointment I was supposed to have a teleconference with an actual medical professional, not a chatbot. Conveniently, they had technical issues that day and we couldn’t even log into the computer properly. The staff has been very nice this entire time, they apologized for this inconvenience and said they would send me a link to the telehealth service, I would not have to come into the office again. I took the products that they provided as part of this service - a bottle of hair growth pills with a ton of horsetail supplement to make you vomit, a bottle of shampoo, conditioner, and some menthol-filled scalp cleanser – and went home. A few days later, Hair Club called me multiple times to say that they would not be able to send me the link, as promised, and I would have to return to the office. There was no way I was going to give them a third chance for an appointment that could be conducted from my home.
Since that time, I tried the hair growth supplement and it made me feel sick – I was so bloated I looked like I was five months pregnant. I took the products to my dermatologist and provided my doctor with the genetic test results. As you can probably guess, none of it is special or proprietary to Hair Club, merely products filled with the usual ingredients that anyone can find in any over the counter hair products. The menthol could potentially help with circulation but ultimately irritated my scalp. The genetic testing provided information that dermatologists have already shared with me – vitamins I should take and chemicals to use such as minoxidil and latanoprost - all of which are found in any number of hair growth gummies and vitamins and minoxidil is $50 for a 3 month supply.
My plan is to post this information all over the internet until Hair Club does the right thing and reimburses me $2500. The genetic testing was $450 and they gave me products probably worth $100. To be generous, I am only asking for $2500. I am hoping we can resolve this out of court. I look forward to hearing from them and hopefully deterring them from continuing with their deceptive and fraudulent behavior that preys on vulnerable people who are desperately seeking solutions to their hair loss.
