I bid on and “won” a nice M1 Garand from an individual in the Dallas Texas area late in 2025. I contacted the seller, following all the protocols on Gun Auctions website. After sending the funds via Money Order, I got stories about death in the family and other excuses of why the M1 hadn’t been shipped. Eventually the “seller” demanded that I send him more money for shipping stating it was going to cost $90 to ship and that I should send it, even though I already paid the shipping costs ($40) listed in the auction. He also said the gun was worth more than my bid. I refused to send more money and advised the seller I would sue him if he failed to refund my money or ship the rifle. The communication then stopped. I sought help from Gun Auction and received none. Wouldn’t even hear my complaint. I ended up suing the seller and won a default judgment against the seller, which has not been paid. The seller was in jail for felony drug charges during the court proceedings. Apparently Gun Auction does not verify sellers to any meaningful extent. I’m not convinced the seller ever had a M1 to sell. He likely just grabbed the photos of a nice M1 from the internet and posted them. I’ve invested over $10k in legal fees in the M1 auction that I will likely never recover. I had previously bought guns through Gun Broker and Gun Auction without issue. .
Recommendation: Don’t buy guns from online auctions.
