I am filing this complaint against GAR Disability Advocates for gross negligence, lack of communication, and failure to provide any meaningful assistance in my Social Security Disability case.
Despite being assigned to GAR, I received no substantive support throughout my 18-month struggle to obtain SSDI following a life-saving organ transplant. My assigned caseworker informed me she was handling over 4,500 cases, which made it impossible for her to manage mine effectively.
GAR was unaware that my case had been closed by the SSA — a fact I discovered and resolved on my own. I was forced to reopen the case myself, and during this time, SSA misplaced my file, further delaying my benefits while I was on the verge of homelessness.
I spent 8 hours a day for nearly 18 months contacting SSA, writing to my senators, and advocating for my case. GAR provided no updates, no guidance, and no follow-up. The only communication I received was that my representative was once on hold for 20 minutes and had to hang up. That was the extent of their involvement.
Despite my repeated attempts to speak with Ricky Stern, I never received a return call or any direct communication from him or his office.
Claimed loss: "Lost Medicaid, became homeless, paid $7,200 to GAR for no service. Total losses over $15,000 due to depleted savings, credit card debt, and credit score drop after 18-month delay in disability benefits."
Desired outcome: "I had to manage my case alone—daily SSA calls, letters to senators—while GAR gave no help. They still took $7,200 from my back pay. I seek a full investigation, refund, and accountability for their negligence."
