CoxHealth Center Withholding prescriptions, harassing and bullying by office staff. Patient advocate betrayed my confidence.

I was a patient of Misty Lopez, at the Cox Health Clinic in Ozark, Mo. The time period was from March 20 th to March 27th. I was trying to get my prescriptions refilled and was refused and told I had to come in to see the PA to discuss the meds. I told them that I had just been in a few weeks earlier and the discussion about the meds was done then. I also informed them that financially I could not afford another office visit. When they continued to refuse I spoke to the patient advocate and she called them, returned my call and said there was nothing she could do. I decided since I was uncomfortable going to that clinic that I would switch doctors and made an appointment with another. After I informed the Ozark clinic about the change they still refused to fill the meds and told me(on March 24th) that I could go to Urgent Care over the weekend if I needed my inhaler. I pleaded with them not to do that to me because again I couldn't afford it and they did not budge, so I made an appointment for that Monday, the 27th. I had to go to the Urgent Care and still had to go to the doctors office. I called the patient advocate and was informed that she had 10,000 other patients to take care of . When I arrived for my doctor visit I was harassed and bullied by Kay the office manager for telling the advocate that I wanted to file a complaint. I finished with the office visit shaking and left.

However ComplaintsBoard has detected that:

  • While CoxHealth Center has a high level of trust, our investigation has revealed that the company's complaint resolution process is inadequate and ineffective. As a result, only 0% of 10 complaints are resolved. The support team may have poor customer service skills, lack of training, or not be well-equipped to handle customer complaints.
  • CoxHealth Center protects their ownership data, a common and legal practice. However, from our perspective, this lack of transparency can impede trust and accountability, which are essential for establishing a credible and respected business entity.

CoxHealth Center Urgent care center

I made a visit to urgent care for a pinched nerve in my neck. I have arthritis in my spine. I had recently moved and had been over exerting my back at age 68. The nurse practitioner prescribed one week's worth of muscle relaxants and advised me to do strength training. She told me to inform my primary care doctor of the situation, which I did. However, I was still in a lot of pain, after one month, in my lower back now also. I called to ask for a refill, and was refused. In addition, my primary care doctor would not refill.

Desired outcome: The first thing my primary care doctor did was try to refer me to a specialist, which was completely unnecessary. They are only looking at how much money they can squeeze out of your insurance policy.

CoxHealth Center Medication PA

I have, as well as my pharmacy to called to get a refill for a rescue inhaler. Initially, I was told that medicaid will not refill rescue inhalers ( for asthma) due to dependency and I was only allowed per insurance 3 inhalers a year.

Medicaid did confirm this, however, my diagnosis has been COPD, which medicaid will pay for an inhaler monthly.

After several attempts to receive my inhaler, I've had to pay out of pocket for, I still am not getting the PA from my primary care. I have called the pharmacy several times to see if it was sent from their side, which it has been several times. Today, I called my primary care office and was told that the PA was sent 2 days ago, but when I called the pharmacy, they still hadn't received it.

Somwhere, someone, is dropping the ball on my medication. It's become a game of he said, she said and I need my medication refilled.

This has been going on since Novemeber last year and it is highly unacceptable.

Desired outcome: I would like to find out exaclty why ( insurance isn't the excuse, I've cleared it with them) my PA after 2 months isn't being submitted.

CoxHealth Center Heart Shock

I went to see a heart doctor at the Wheeler Heart and Vascular Center in Springfield, MO after being in the hospital in October for excessive High Blood Pressure and Hypertension. I had a nurse practitioner instead of a doctor. After taking a few tests she said I had Atrial Fibrillation and wanted me to talk to a Doctor about getting a Heart Shock which she and the Doctor both said would get my heart working properly. So I Agreed. It was set up for the following Tuesday. [protected]) When I came in Tuesday morning to the hospital in Springfield, they did some tests to prepare me for the procedure. I also had a nurse that came in to verify my insurance information. In the process of talking with her she told me that this procedure would cost around $3000.00. I said OK.

After the procedure, I was told it was a success and I was scheduled for a follow up about two and a half weeks later.

At my follow up appointment I was told that my Atrial Fibrillation had returned. I asked the nurse practitioner how that could be. She said it was most likely because I was overweight and had high blood pressure. (My Fault ?) She actually increased my blood pressure medicine by 50% that day because I told her it had not gone down since my last visit. She wanted me to talk to a doctor about getting another procedure done which I declined and have not returned to them since dealing with them on this day. When I received my bill for this procedure done on 12-14-2021, they charged me $8,166.07 not $3000.00 as I was quoted. My insurance company paid them $6,398.66 of this bill which left me having to pay $1,767.41.

So the doctor and nurse practitioner knowingly scheduled me for a procedure (Heart Shock) that they knew would most likely not hold because of my physical issues, but they still insisted that I have it done anyway. Now they want me to pay this bill for a procedure that fixed nothing.

I have sent Cox Health Billing Department a letter protesting this bill with the info stated above, but have not heard back from them.

Desired outcome: I just want this bill for $1,767.41 cancelled for this procedure done on 12-14-2021

CoxHealth Center "Policy" vs " Patient"

To Whom it May concern,

I would prefer to speak with someone on this matter, but in short we went to Branson, MO today at CoxHealth / Diabetes & Endocrinology for my Father’s meeting with the Doctor to get the lab results, but it became very apparent that “Policy” was more important than my “Father” Basically we couldn’t have 2 people in the room with my Father who is 82 years old. My mother knows what pills he is taking and she wanted me in there to ask the Doctor questions about the lab results based on what was found.

I did find the Policy for CoxHealth and here is what it reads

Patients have the right to:

• #2 on the list Be treated with respect and dignity (This was violated by the nurse by not listening and more concerned about, again, “The Policy” instead of the “Person”

We both needed to be in the room to Make informed decisions about care for my father.

Very Disappointed when “Policies” become more important than “People” ---- If this continues we will not return and if I miss my guess the hospital is in business because of the “People”

We were very pleased with the Doctor and her understanding of the situation.

Todd R Carter

Desired outcome: Time to change the policy for the sake of the loved ones, family in order to make the best possible healthcare decision for our family member
