July 24, 6:30 AM, I wake up to what I think is HSN on TV. It was a MagicJack infomercial, but I thought it was HSN. They had a slightly obsucred logo that looked like "HSN", and it was run exactly like HSN. I thought it was safe to buy because I was ordering from HSN. I ordered the MagicJack. Then I got up and had a couple cups of coffee. Excited about my new purchase, I went to www.magicjack.com to learn more about my new tool. The first thin I learned is that it won't work on my Mac (it's not an Intel Mac), so I clicked on "Customer Service" to cancel my, order. To my surprise and dismay, ALL the buttons for 24/7 Live Chat, Billing/Orders and Returns did nothing except to send me to another page. On this page, it said, “Every answer you will get from a Live Person, is available right here at your fingertips, without delay” and I was told to use the Search engine for FAQs. I spent all day yesterday and half of today trying to get an address or phone number for MagicJack or Ymax. Here's what I found: russop@magicjack.com and Dan@magicJack.com. I sent each an email with "Please Add to My Order" in the subject line. In the body, I said that I wanted to add something to my order but could not find any contact info, and none of their buttons for live chat worked. BINGO! I GOT A REPLY from Rikard Bone (Rikard.Bone@ymaxcorp.com). I replied, telling him that the only thing I wanted to add to my order was: CANCEL IMMEDIATELY and told him why. I told him to remove any charges or pending charges to my credit card, and to send me a legitimate street address to which I can return the MagicJack, IF they have already shipped it.

Then I called my credit card company and reporeted fraud. They put a block on my account. I sent them a letter and 5 pages of the 2, 000 complaints about MagicJack that I found online. I Googled for the address of the attorney general in my state, for the AG in Florida, and for all my reps in Washington, D.C. and mailed them a letter. I also contacted www.lawyersandsettlements.com about starting a class action lawsuit. I found two street addresses for MagicJack: CT Corporation System,
1200 South Pine Island Road, Plantation, FL 33324 AND Ymax Holdings Corporation,
5700 Georgia Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33405

Hope these addresses and emails work for you. Don't let them get away with robbing you! WRite to your state's attorney general!

Just imagine working for them and then quitting only to find yourself with a fraud lawsuit. Supposedly you are not allowed to seek other employment while you work for the tyrant that is the CTO who tells you everyday that you need to find a new job or how bad your are at your job. To top it all off, they will not give me my final paycheck despite my efforts to keep the parting cordial.

I have been seeing the infomercial about Magic jack so I went ahead and ordered it it was nothing but a headache since day one, I would chat with them and would upgrade me and it still didn't solve my problem and the last time I got in contact with then turns out it was the extension cord that they sent with the device that was not working so I ask them to send me a new one and they told me since I was already past the 30 day trial period they aren't able to do that even though I have been complaining about it from day one my contract is up in Aug. but I have already disconnect it and got a regular phone number I learned my lesson IF I WERE YOU DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON MAGIC JACK IT'S NOT WORTH IT!! Signed fooled me once

Wife kept going on and on about it and the wonderful 20 dollars a year phone service. Picked it up at Radio Shack and sent her to return it 20 mintues after we attempted to install it. Playing an online game and both time we tried to call out or had an incoming call my game lost connection. Seems like to use it I basically have to turn my $1000 pc into a phone. When I set up the account the closest city they would allow me to select from for a phone number are cities that I remember use to be toll calls from this area from back when I had regular phones so I'm wondering if there will be a rip off there.

I hope somehow, someone, sues the hello out of these scam and gets it banned.

The magicjack is marketed as a simple 'every-man' device but really its not. The good news is that if one has the right know how knowledge then most of the magicjack drawbacks can be resolved and it actually has a TON of potential. $20 a year tho, you get what you pay for.

I have been using MagicJack for over a year with NO PROBLEMS!! It only works on an Intel Mac or a PC with the proper level processor. If you don't have an Intel machine, as explained in the add, it won't work. So you Mac PPC owners stop complaining and learn how to read!!!

I have used my magic jack for nearly a year now. My only issue is on my under powered PC it didn't work as well as when we used it on our dual core. We game with it, my husband and I both play mmorpg and we don't get connected. He can talk and play at the same time. For some reason the corporation I work at can't dial our phone without getting a busy signal but it has been the only issue I know of. And if it keeps the bill collectors away more power to it. We are happy with it and are ready to sign up for another year of service. I never expected much and more people can't tell the difference when they are talking to me as to whether its a normal landline or not. I think what happens is some people have problems and they complain always louder than the satisfied people share their point of view. Let the buyer beware.

Let me start off by noticing how people got the "Attitude" button wrong. If you agree that magicJack sucks, just press "agree". Since obviously most of you /don't/, then press "disagree".

Now, I have one and only one complaint about magicJack- the TOS. In case somebody is still hiding in their shell somewhere, let me explain section what section 12 of their TOS means (http://www.magicjack.com/tos/):
"You agree not to sue VocalTec, magicJack and YMAX, or any affiliated corporate, and you cannot claim or demand anything of them. You cannot even demand reasonable attorney fees if you sue us and it turns out that you're right, but you agreed to these TOS. sucks to be you."

Now you see, I'm a simple man who has just one simple need. I want freedom. I go with open source software, because that way I know that nobody can screw me over with some secret line of code (I have access to the source code, right?). I don't mind the free licenses not including warranty or fitness for a specific purpose, but as long as they're stating that they're not sure, I'm fine with it. MagicJack just said that it might not work, in their TOS, and if it doesn't, screw you, no refund if it's after 30 days. And even during the 30 days, their website is a maze. I think magicJack is a scam, a complete ripoff, with a smoke-and-mirrors website designed so you'd give up all hope and anything you paid them. Heck, maybe they're keeping your credit card numbers.

Long story short- don't go with magicJack. $20/yr isn't worth the hassle. Wanna talk to people long-distance? Try Skype.
