I got a call from a guy working for World Connect at about 10:30 am on 28 Oct 2008. He could not provide me specific details about where I allegedly entered into this competition. He mentioned that I answered a questionnaire on my opinions on "lifestyles in South Africa" which was distributed from Jan - June this year. He said my spouse and I have entered into a competition to win a car. I am not married nor have I been engaged to anyone before. I definately would not enter into a competition if I knew up front that I need to have a spouse in order to qualify.

Apparently, I qualify to enter into a draw with 15 other "lucky" couples to win this car if I attend a dinner that they have set up on the 29 Oct 2008. The dinner/draw is tomorrow night (they forgot to give me a time). The venue is at VIP Offices, 28 Gilford Road, Carlswald, Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa. The guy gave me a reference number and told me that I must provide the reference number (My reference number is J75) to the security guards at the gate otherwise I would not be let in. He also emphasised that I MUST come with my spouse/wife.

I spoke to a friend about the competition and he said that he was also invited to the same competition last year and that he went for it. He said that the company tried to sell him and his girlfriend a holiday scheme. He mentioned that the company started asking him for personal details, contact details, and his credit card details, but he refused to provide the with those details until he found out why they needed them in the first place. He said that when it was time for the competition, they showed him 8 numbers and asked him to draw all of the same 8 numbers from a pot. He said he only got 1 or 2 numbers and they gave him a "HOLIDAY TICKET"! (wow! what are the chances of him getting a "free" holiday from a company selling holiday schemes!). My friend was disgusted with the whole thing. My friend also told me that another of my friends was also contacted by the same company for the same competition. Both of my friends and I do not know where the company got our contact details from.

I don't know where or how this company got my details. Please can someone investigate this company's activities?

Thanks to all for your comments. I received a call yesterday from a lady who said she is from Breakaway and told me to come collect free 5 day holiday vouchers, and her boss will send me directions today 29 March 2012. He called today and gave the directions, and named VIP building Midrand. I googled VIP in Midrand, only to arrive to this comments. The boss's name is Godffrey. Thanks, you helped me and my family through your comments. Hope

Guess what peolpe, they are back for 2011. I received my call 01/03/2011 from Njabulo with the reference number BA07, telephone number [protected] with the promise that Godfrey(manager) will phone me 02/03/2011 to verify that I was contacted. So far, no call from Godfrey...
Anybody interested, the draw will be on 04/03/2011 18:00 at the same address: 28 Guildford Rd in Carlswald, Midrand.
Thanks to you people and Google, unfortunately I will NOT be able to make the draw, missing OUT on a perfect opportunity to waste my time. Njabulo clearly stated that I do not need any cash or cards because they are not selling anything, they only want to have a draw followed by a romantic dinner for two. By the way, they no longer have a SPARK up for grabs, they are now down to a CHERRY something...

Hey guys,

It is unbelievable that these people are still doing this scam.

The exact same happened to me! How on earth do they get our numbers? My number is specifically kept private.

Well, for one thing, if you are gullible enough to fall for anything like this, you most probably deserve what's coming to you. Nonetheless, I'm one of them...

Hence, I ask all of you who fell for this, to stand with me and try and do something against these @#$%! I'm not sure what, thus ask you to post proposals here. Phoning Vox was fruitless, we need more progressive action.

For those of you recognize this scam before they can even say “congrats”, warn as gullible folk - it's just awful to promise someone a car and slap them with a sales proposal...

Any suggestions?

Yup, I never trust these things. I know I entered a competition for a car a while back but I'm sure it wasn't a Chery QQ. So I played along, no need to ruin my Friday afternoon. A quick Google later and my fears were confirmed.

C'est la vie, just don't be stupid enough to be caught out. The number they called me on is [protected].

Thanks to all on the web who have made this scam well known. It is the best we can do to help other people out and stop these buggers scamming us.

Hi. I was just called to be invited to the prize giving ceremony for one of the above mentioned prizes. The ladies name was Belinda and her contact number is [protected]. She said i was in the final draw for one of those guarenteed prizes. And I was genuinely convinced as i often enter competitions wherever i am and i have genuinely won a few times in the past until she asked me if 2pm or 4pm is a good time for me. Lol eish and to think that they are giving false hopes to alot of people. We are fortunate enough to have access to the internet to look up stuff like this in order to satisfy our suspisions, but what about those that arent fortunate enough and spend their last money to get there in the hopes of winning a car? If i had it my way i would tie all of these scam artist to a tree and pour syrup over them so that all the birds and the bees can suck every last drop of blood out of them just as they have exploited hard working, god fearing people and drained them of all of their money. Hi

I received a call from a person named Shela Thoka yesterday, from the number [protected]. Apparently I sent a sms on sometime last year to enter into a competition, and I could win one of five prizes (I could not remember doing any such thing - I could not even find ) I just don't remember entering any competition..
1. A Chery QQ Car
2. A GPS
3. A quad Bike
4. Ice maker
5. A holiday - to Kenya
I was given a reference number J548 - and I must come with my boyfriend. Thank goodness for my friends who warned me! PLEASE - you have been warned, if you want your money and time wasted, go ahead for the draw/prize giving...whatever...
Anyways, I'm just happy I didn't waste my time - thanks guys, and thank you GOOGLE :) !

I hope they find it in there hearts that we also need money as much as they do, but they must find other ways of making it. THEY ARE NOT FAIR>>>>>>

My ref no. J548 - what a bull... story. CAN'T THESE PEOPLE BE STOPPED, THEY CATCH A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS.

Thank you soooo much for posting these comments. They nearly made a fool out of me! Same guy Micheal, same celnr [protected], same reference number J351. Has this thing been going on for 2 YEARS? and no one is putting an end to it?

Wow it really seems as if these people at world connect are busy, cause I just got a call from a guy called innocent advising me that I am one of the five lucky winners that numbers were drawn from a sms competition to win a Chery QQ car. Then he mentions that you can also walk away with a washing machine, Suzuki Quad and some other stuff! I would also Like to know how can they jump from J745 to J717 as that is the reference number that they just gave me. I agree wholy with everyone that this company should be investigated cause it is false advertising and I would like to know where they got my details from too as I have never entered a competition to win a Chery QQ what a [censored] story, I am however waiting for this event Co-ordinator GODFREY to give me a call on Monday as the draw apparently takes place between 12 and 4 in Midrand. They say nothing about having to sit through a Holiday presentation. Anymore nonsense from them and I will be calling the ombudsman to investigate this matter further!

Just received a phone call from a company called new vision and said I won a holiday for 4 people food and accomodation paid! She didn't ask for any details, but she promised it was no scam! But I am not easily fooled and decided to google before I make my decision and so glad I have... Same phone number used as I see some of you put on previous: [protected].

HI Guys.

I got a call today from a lady called Keiysha. She claimed to be from New Vision and said she was calling on behalf of the sponsors Quality Vacation Club. She didn;t give me specific details about how or where or when I had entered the competition, but gave me a reference number and said I had won free dineer and a voucher to use for any of teh QVC accomodations anywhere in South Africa. She said call centre number is [protected].

Strangely enough I had received a call from the same number two weeks ago but this had to do with me having won a car. Rewards included generators, quadbikes etc.

Where on earth do these people get contact details from! Very concerning!

I got a call from these crooks (Michael and Tracey from World Connect) on 10/08/2010, googled them and decided not to go to their prize giving presentation in Midrand. Michael called me to find out why I didnt pitch. I gave him (Michael) a piece of my mind, I told them they're scammers, crooks and cheat people out of their hard earned money and he dropped the call on me, very nice.

Hi...I received a call from Johan Fraser ([protected])...said I entered a competition on 10th February 2010...via sms for a Cherry QQ. I have not won the main prize yet I am in the draw along with 14 other couples. I am, however a guarenteed winner for 1 of 5 gifts...quad bike, an ice maker, ipod, local holiday and a holiday in Kenya...I have never entered such a competition in my life...But decided to go along to hear abit more about this...My referenceJ449...I received a call today from Tracy the Events Co-Ordinator...who gave me directions. I am a mother with 3 kids...so I very graciously asked if they could also accomodate my kids. Luckily for me they agreed and I have to have my spouse with me. After seeing these comments by so many people I feel so disgusted that there are people like this, that feel nothing into luring people with a scam of such nature. The draw is tomorrow night at 6pm. I have a good mind to go there and give these people a piece of my mind. Really, on a week night..exhausted from work, tagging 3 kids around all just for Timeshare!...I am very very irrate..watch this space ...

I got a call today from Interways. This seem to be the same scam! The prize at Tuesdays draw is a Cherry QQ with the obligatory quad bike, generator, holiday, weekend away and ice maker (what's with the ice maker? are they a huge drawcard?) for those who miss out on the car! Everyone will go home with a prize! They are also throwing in the 2 free meal vouhers – this one is at the Design Quarter (well actually they couldn’t tell me the name of the shopping centre because they are ‘not familiar’ with the area but it’s at the corner of William Nicol and Leslie = Design Quarter) and that I will get a call on Monday with details and directions. My reference number is J231. I was called by Kelly [protected] and I should expect a call from the events coordinator Anna on Monday with details. I was given a ‘hotline’ number should I have any queries [protected]. I was told I have to be there by 6:00 and gates close at 6:20 sharp so if I’m late I won’t be able to get in. Figured it was all a scam to decided to google it. I also have to bring my partner along etc. So, I just wanted to warn all to beware of a new name used in these scams – Interways!

Well, well.

I have cancelled an important appointment, my wife declined an offer to do traing for a crowd for today(R4500-00 worth)
I had to make arrangements to get a sitter.

When I got the call from Thandi [protected], I naturally asked where they got my details... sms competition blah blah.
Guaranteed price same as all the others. My reference number is however J105.

I am NOT going, I will be following up with this crowd, they have p!ssed off the wrong guy now!
I guess a visit to number 28 Guilford Rd, Carlswald is in order to claim my " guaranteed price"

I will also be giving them an Invoice for my wife's lost income for today, as well as an invoice for the babysitter.

Failing a positive outcome on this, I will sue for my car, quad, icemaker, i-pod, 5.5kva generator and holiday away anywhere in South Africa.

Watch this space, I WILL report back.
J.

There seems to be no end to human ingenuity and one must admire this lot for their persistence. My story virtually repeats word-by-word everyone else's experience: I got a phone call from Thobisile from the same [protected] number advising me that I had entered into a competition to win a car in Sandton (I live in Sandton - Sandton is big and the general reference amongst Sandtonians when saying "Sandton" means the City or the Square) and that it is my lucky day to participate in a draw to win a car, quad bike, holiday, and whatnot. So far, so good, because I had in fact had entered into a competition to win a car. Then good old Thobisile wanted to know my surname, my age, and my occupation. This is when alarm bells started ringing. Then she gave me my reference number (J745 - one could suppose business is good, since the first complaints, dating from 2008 use a double-digit figure) and advised that I should bring my spouse along. By this time alarm bells were deafening, because it is well-known that a sales pitch will go down if one has to consult a spouse. At any rate, I kept quiet, because I wanted to know their next step and I had not made any commitments rather than attending. So today I got a call from Tracey, from the same number, to confirm attendance and to get the address of the draw. Tracey could not email it to me "because they were offline" and she could not text it "because they don't text" so I took down the Guildford Rd address in Midrand, the same VIP outfit. God bless Google, of course, and many thanks for your input. As they would be laying out food and drinks for me, then it might as well be that they go through the unnecessary expense. I will simply spend my day doing better things.

Thanks Google, saved us a trip and from being scammed. same stuff to be won- Quadbike, generator, getaway, Icemaker, Kenya Holiday. Same reference number J548 and told me I am a certain winner of one of 5 prizes incl. 2 holidays, icemaker, quadbike or a car. However I am very curious to see what's gonna happen once I pitch at this place in Midrand? Has anyone done it before? I have to be there tomorrow with my girlfriend at 2 o'clock.
