Magic jack is a scam i would not recommend this product i would not put anyone through this *** *** junk and having that little girl lie for them on site shame on you magic ***. They need a law suit on them and especially no phone number for customer support they must not like it either for them to have magic jack and not have phone for c/s whats up with that and there chat clients are not good also they must of just started to school on customer service and still in kindergarten, magic jack you need to be put out of business and a big law suit.

    I ordered the magoc jack on november 2nd 2008. I paid extra money to have it delivered in 3 days> I have not yet to see it and it has been 11 days. I just went on the live chat on there web site and now they say they dont have my order. I didnt not re-order I will have to speak with my husband first about this. But my mother in law does work for and attorney firm and If they dare try to bill me there will be trouble!! How can a company have a website and comercails on tv if they are just going to scam people. That is not patrioic. Unless they are from another country and this is one of them scams that go around. I dont know we will have to see.

    Unfortunately this device acts as spyware, it is also almost impossible to remove (it basically becomes part of windows) and if read close enough in the terms of agreement you you agree to allow Don Borislow of YMAX to access information from your computer and sell it third party so really is your identity worth the money you save a year on internet phone service. What sounds too good to be true, usually is...

    I ordered it (MAGICJACK(MJ)), connected MJ and read Terms Of Service (TOS) dis connected it and have retuned it., Noproblem. I have been trying to get my computer back to normal, I think I finally rid it of SPYWARE AND ADWARE. I did have many crashes after removing The MJ. If it sounds to good to be true, it is a better chance that it is a better stay away from. I am sure it is a good thing, The MJ, but it was not right for me. I think they should put TOS on there order siteprior to ordering it. Let the Consumer make a choice. of accepting the TOS prior to ordering, saving MJ S & H charge. At $19.95 a year I don't see them giving much customer service, TOS does say they can raise the rates without notice.

    Their site sucks and is really hard to navigate, a Mac OS X patch for the Caller ID bug is long over due. BUT other than that MJ is the ###, we've been using it for over 2 years we love it so much we got the family overseas one, we now call them multiple times a day (sometimes for no reason) for FREE!!!

    PS: I was searching for an OS X patch for the caller ID issue, when I found this page believe it or not this is the first time I review a product much less defend one!

    So when someone askes me about Magic Jack as a company... Pull up a chair and get comfortable because I have a mouth full of bad to say about it. I have no doubt that it is ok for some. But DONT try to get the "Free Trial" when you are low on your credit limit, because they are gonna suck that money out whatever way they can. SHAME ON YOU Magic Jack.

    You get your MJ serviced with live chat at 20 minutes at the most, compared to the over priced phone company, who has to send out a technician...

    Major DUH!

    I don't leave my computer on 24 hours. Nobody has the right to call me in the middle of the night, damnit! I need my sleep.

    Unless there is that one accident in the middle of the night that killed one of my loved ones, then they deserve it! They shouldn't be out driving in the middle of the night, anyway!!!

    I have Vonage and it has a lot of good features. Pretty reasonable to. Because of my wife and kids having cell phones we rarely use the home phone. I was looking for something even cheaper than Vonage. I have seen the MagicJack commercial numerous times and was going to give it a try. Steve, like any new product you will have complaints. I read several, but was still interested in purchasing. But after reading ALL that you have been through, I wouldn't touch this product if the gave it to me with free service. I thank you for this post and you have by far been through more than any other consumer being scammed by TragicJack. Guess I will be sticking with Vonage a little longer.

    I purchase a majic Jack from a commerial on T.V. everything sounded very good and the price was execellent and also the 30day trial just blew me away.

    When I receive the product in the mail I installed it very easy to my computer and it worked, but with bad reception and it slowed my computer down.

    also they billed my account within 15 days with a c harge that wasn't correct stated to me.

    also within another 15 days they billed my account again, , that's over a $150.00

    they tried again the 3rd time so I changed my ac count information and they was unsucessful on the 3rd attempt.

    this company is a scram and I advice anyone not to purchase this product because they take money out your account within giving you an invoice in the mail or anything.

    There were never an invoice sent with the product stating exactly how much you were being charged, , so they take what they want out your account.

    This company is an rip off, , so don't purchase the product, , all the complaint are correct.I had to change my account to keep them from taking more money.

    Magic jack is a great product, I will save over $2000.00 in 5 years by dumping my monoply phone company. You do need a fast internet service. This is one of the best investments I have ever made. Please ignore the previous comments, they apparently don't know how to use simple eletronics!

    My brother purchased the magic jack and the reception is really a coin toss. Sometimes the reception was ok, sometimes really bad, but never clear 100% of the time. Sometimes he would have to hang up and dial the call again to try and get better reception.

    Purchased the product in March 2008. Works as adverstised. It's not a seamless replacement for a landline, and I can't compare it to other VOIP products, but it works as adverstised and I have no plans to stop using it any time soon. It has saved me about $500 so far this year and I expect similar savings to continue indefinitely.

    The only flaw I have found with this product that causes me any inconvenience is the necessity of dialing the area code for local calls most of the time. This seems like a big deal until you get used to it, and now that I am used to it, I wonder why I ever thought it was a big deal. I just think of all phone numbers as having ten digits now, and have no problems.

    Make sure you follow the instructions, plug the device into the USB port on a computer and not a USB hub that doesn't have its own power. Make sure that your broadband connection has bandwidth, if you are using the same connection for heavy downloading then you will have VOIP issues no matter what VOIP product you use (such as Vonage, etc).

    The sound quality is flawless, the voice mail and caller id work perfectly, and I am convinced that cheap VOIP is the future of the "house phone."

    Ignore idiots who spam these review boards with negative tales and biazarre stories. Try it for yourself, it's only a few bucks and you can now buy it at Radio Shack. If it doesn't work you haven't lost much. If it does, you will save 100 times its cost in a couple of years time.

    Dec 12 I looked into ordering this item. I went to the company website and went through the process of placing my order. I followed each step which took me to their check out page. I was scanning down the page checking everything to make sure it was correct and had gotten about 1/3 of the way down the page and had not clicked on anything while doing this when suddenly the page was redirected to one that informed me that my order was processed and I would get a confirmation email. I want to repeat, I did not click any button/link to complete the order. this was a checkout page with multiple options for upgrading and changing. After navigating through two layers faqs I finally found a link to a chat room for customer service. I was frustrated with the checkout page and decided I wanted to cancel. I told the customer service rep that I wanted to cancel my order and they told me I had to come back in two hours to do that. I could not because I needed to leave for work so I asked for their customer service number so I could call from work (where I do not have internet access) to insure the order is canceled.

    this is a transcript of that portion of the conversation:

    as you can see, no amount of threatening will convince them to give up a phone number despite the fact that FTC regulations require anyone billing a credit card to provide a contact phone number.

    I was unable to get them to provide any phone number or street address.

    after doing some research on the internet I found the following:

    If you call the above number you will only get a recording which goes on to insist that the only method of customer service contact is via their web site.

    Then at the end it finally gives a phone number which they say is answered between 11am and 8pm m-f. That number is: 281 404 1551

    But when I called it at 1:15 pm monday I got a recording from the phone company informing me the number is not in service.

    It is never safe when a company refuses to provide a contact number.

    a few hours later I finally got an email from Magic Jack. It informed me of the details of the order that I did not place. Despite Harry's insisntance that a billing number would be included in the email there was no such number. again, illegal.

    I contacted them via their tech chat and after going through a few more hoops I finally got them to cancel this order.

    This evening I have done some additional research and found that this company had more than 600 complaints to the BBB as of a year ago. They currently are rated an "F" by the BBB.

    Any company whose website jumps the gun and completes the order process while you are still reviewing their check-out page is not to be trusted.

    Any company that does not provide a contact telephone number is not to be trusted.

    I cannot speak to the experience of the orifinal complaint on this page but I can confirm with my own experience that something is amiss.

    I just spent hours online with a rep who nended up disconnecting me. My issue: My daughter purchsed a Majick Jack for me as a gift several weeks ago. She used her bank card for the puchase. I had to have a replacement which was done and this company drafted my bank account for it. They also drafted almost 50.00 extra from her bank account for no apparent reason. Clearly this was an error. The rep would/could not give me any billing info, kept repeating in poor English (written) that 'the account was dropped back into the account' whatever that means, repeatedly told me that the charge 'had dropped off on his end' so it appareny did not exist any more for him, told me she needed to contact 'her bank', ignored my request to remove her bank info from my account and ignored my request to fax over to him the written proof that indeed her account had been drawn from without her approval just to name a few unhelpful responses. My daughter does not have an account with them and the draft was just done a few days ago. The rep told me that that charge had just 'dropped off' of his system. What does that mean? He just continued to give me the runaround. I am going to contact my State's Attorney. I'm going to get this money back. My impression: This is a 'boil room' operation with no infra structure. There is no appropriate billing system intact for which a customer service rep can resolve billing/bank draft issues. What phone company does not a a PHONE number for customers? What PHONE company company does not have a record of drafting an account which only ocurred a few days ago? Yes, the product does what it says. It works. Just don't trust them with account information and don't count on getting your money back.

    My Magic Jack was purchased by my daughter as a gift to me. She used her bank card to pay for it. Last week Majci Jack drafted her checking account for no apparent reason for almost 50.00. I spent hours online with a rep who ran me in circles, stating that he could not see her card on my account even though just a few days prior her card HAD been used by them for this draft. My daughter does not have an account with them. I want to know why a 'phone' company does not have a 'phone number' for customer service. I want to know why this rep could not simply replace the money into my daughter's account. He could/would not tell me what he saw on the billing system, he kept me online for two hours repeating phrases such as, 'the account was placed back to account', I continuosly had to ask him what he meant by these remarks and when I made the request to fax the proof that her account had indeed been drafted by them ignored my request for a fax number. He also ignored my request to have her bank account removed. My impression: The product itself works well for what it is. Bet bottoms to dollar this is a cover up company with no infra structrure, no means of resolving billing and bank drafting errors, the reps are not equipped to resolve these problems and have difficulty with the English language. I still have not been able to get my daughter's money back and I'm angry as hell that this 'legit' phone company resticts customers to online reps only who can disconnect you at anytime and no one is held accountable. I'm taking this complaint to the States Attorney for investigation and to get this money back. M Braun
