Borders Bookstore / Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered section

I have been an avid shopper at the Borders Bookstore located in Rockaway New Jersey. However after shopping at this location on a weekly basis I have become immensely dissatisfied with this specific stores Gay/Lesbian/ Transgendered section. Being a member of the Lesbian community I was disheartened by the very miniscule amount of books the store had made available for the public. It also appears as if the genuinely small amount of books that they do provide had been carelessly lumped together under the very broad title "Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered Studies". Not only is this section undersized and poorly represented for it's large title but, it also appears to be hidden from sight, as it is located on the very last aisle on the the very last shelf. I do not know the reasoning behind the movement of sections or limited amount of books but again, I find it unsettling that in order to find a book that I would like to purchase I have to kneel on the floor for a half hour. As a customer and as an equal citizen of the U.S. I feel I have the right to browse and obtain the same wide variety of products as easily a comfortably as anyone else. I hope that in time this problem will be taken care of so I can quickly go back to enjoying my shopping experience at Borders Bookstore in Rockaway.

You need to get a grip, some books have to be on the bottom shelf in every section of any store. raising your hackles at perceived disenfranchisement of your gay rights is saying how spoiled you are.

why not ask the store manager to carry more books, or suggest titles. maybe the store cannot carry every book on the planet to suit you.

Complaining to a public forum about your need for easy to reach special reading materials wastes electrons.

Indeed maybe the store manager and staff dont particularly LIKE your preferred material and put it there so they dont have to look at it. Or they removed it from children passing by whose parents want to teach them as they wish without being faced with books against THEIR beliefs.

you 'rights' dont superceed the rights of others ya know.

Start your own bookstore, or just buy online, comfortably, the world of business owes you nothing

Really? REALLY? Perhaps you meant your post to be a suggestion rather than a complaint? (I seriously hope so!) While it's true that the managers might have put it there for a reason (due to their own beliefs), it could have also been their due to how much it sells. If it's a small section & in the back, it's probably not their #1 part of the store. And, they probably don't have any gay/lesbian employees, so no one is demanding more & better books. Companies buy what sells and/or what gets demanded enough.

I visited the Borders store, which is located on 6103 North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago.
The environment of the store is very unwellcomming, and the cashiers are very rude. I have been to this store before, and I have been having the same impression too. The manager, who worked on Sunday, was very polite and helpful. He is a male. However, there is a female working during the week in the evening who seems to be looking for a guy. As many times I go there with my boyfriend, she is trying to seduce him. She keeps passing by him on purpose, smiling at him, giving him the eye and bending at him as some easy girl. I have been told the same information by other girls going there with their boyfriends. In addition, she is using her power in her premises in order to make two people break up. I had a coupon for 40 percent. She didn't accept it. She kept attempting to seduce my boyfriend by thinking that I will start acting unprofessionally because of the fact that she didn't let me use the coupon.Other girls have told me the same think. However, she can not expect to break two people with a strong bond by bulling and teasing the girl. The guy will prefer to stay with the girl he is with rather than going for a mean and rude one. A real bully! After that we went to the store located on 4718 North Broadway Avenue. Unlike the store on Lincoln Avenue, the people in the borders store on Broadway Avenue were very polite and helpful. In additon, they accepted my coupon. Of course they will accept it since there was not any pervert manager. I told my man that I don't want us to go anymore to the Borders on Lincoln Avenue because I didn't like how I was treated, and he agreed with me. Other girls have done in the same way. Not only my friends but also my relatives will not go there shopping any more. This pervert store manager makes the store loose lots of money. If Border owners don't want to have a bad reputations and losing money because people want a wellcomming environment where they be treated professionally and with respect, they need to change the manager who is seducing her customers . If the pervert store manager needs a guy, I would suggest that she goes to craigslist.com or clubs.

If that is an actual photograph of the LGBT book selection at the Rockaway location and it takes you a half an hour to browse two shelves (which are probably not changing titles very frequently), then I'd suggest some remedial reading courses to enhance your speed and comprehension.

Oh, and why would the store be required to place them in a prominent location if the sales don't warrant it? Best sellers go where they attract potential customers, obscure publications go in obscure locations. It's marketing 101.

By the way, how large is the skinhead, neo-nazi section and is it too small also?

Get over yourself, stop being one of the permanently offended classes. It's unbecoming and only serves to make members of the non-LGBT community more annoyed at your silly complaint.
