I am very unhappy with my bad experience with Uzma Hatia (Affordable Dentistry Today).

On March 3, 2009, I went to her office for teeth cleaning and filling. She wanted to do expensive crowning for four teeth, though only two of my teeth needs filling. I declined her attempt and only got cleaning done. Afterwards I visited two other dentists. Both doctors said that none of my teeth needs crowning and only half of the teeth Hatia tried to crown need filling.

Uzma Hatia over-billed me for two more unwanted services: “Oral Cancer Screening” and “Fluoride Varnish.” I had no cancer, but she charged me for cancer screening anyway. “Fluoride Varnish” is for children, while I am over 40-year old. Even my insurance company said that “Fluoride Varnish” is not medically necessary for me.

I have filed complaints against Hatia to Illinois licensing board and my insurance company. While I am waiting for justice, I sincerely hope that other people like you will not become victims of her fraudulent practices.

    That sounds like a nightmare, but I can't help but think this woman is delirious. I have been to Affordable Dentistry a couple of times and was amazed by her patience with my questions and the friendliness of the staff. I went in a for a cleaning, but I had some other issues that were bothering me, she addressed the problem and literally the next day I felt so much better after my visit to her office. I find it hard to believe that she would recommend something that a patient would not need. In my experience, she was an amazing dentist, she is knowledgeable and kind.

    As for cost, I use to go to another dentist in town and Dr. Hatia is a lot more...affordable! She gives great prices and I didn't feel as if I was being overcharged at all, or that she was recommending me for expensive treatments. If that was the case, I wouldn't have recommended her to my friends and family. And now I would like to recommend her to the rest of you reading this comment...you won't be disappointed!

    It seems that Kate is a hired gun.

    A. My claim is supported by facts 100%. Everything is documented.
    B. The doctor already refunded me the money that was overcharged.

    You still defend the doctor. You are either stupid or shameless.

    This complainant makes no sense. They are not going to do an oral cancer screening for free. You get charged for this service whether or not cancer is found. This person complains that she was charged "even though no cancer was found." I guess she would have been happier to pay the charge had they found cancer. What a dingbat.

    Kay more then likely did not give her the OK to do cancer sceening. Like buying a car and day you pick it up be charged for fabric protection, clear coat, rust gaurd. Things you did not know prior. The dentist should of asked Kay before hand.

    Dr. Hatia is by far the most patient and compassionate dentist that I have ever met. I was a bit worried because I started going to Essington Dental and really liked the skill level of Dr. Thurston as compared to my previous dentist (Dr. Paloucci) who was a total nightmare for me. Dr Hatia was Thurston's replacement, and I have been very impressed with her in every way. She has the warmest greeting & smile, great manners, and she listens to all of your concerns. Dr. Hatia is always patient, and never makes me feel rushed even when my novacaine takes forever to kick in :-). I feel very fortunate to have such a lovely & genuinely sincere person as my dentist, my family feels the same. I hope she stays at Essington Dental for many years to come!

    Obviously Kay is just trying to get freebies/money back and doesn't want to pay for Uzma's services and has no education on health prevention or care. I am a patient of Uzma's and saw this while googling for her office phone number and was appalled that this came up in the search because she is so generous and below cost to others. I drive all the way from Chicago to see her because she's worth it. Hope she opens something in the city! Of course you were refunded Kay because you took advantage of her customer service.

    PS Obviously you need to do a cancer screening to tell you that you do not have cancer... google "Screening"
