Casago review: Driftwood cottage — a major disappointment

For nine years we have rented Driftwood Cottage in Fort Bragg, CA through Vacasa. Now Casago is the agency that manages the rental. This is not a fancy house, but we love the deck that overlooks the ocean and beach, that it has easy beach access and we can take our dog. This year we rented it for four nights. When we arrived we discovered that the deck had been torn down was under construction. It was wrapped with caution tape. Since it had no sides it was dangerous. Also, they had replaced the living room furniture with a huge sofa that was filthy and ripped. The stuffing was coming out of the cushions. Plus, the sofa was so large that it blocked the path from the kitchen to the deck. The door from the house to the deck was stuck so firmly that I wasn't strong enough to open it. I had to go out the front door, walk around the side of the house then climb over construction debris and caution tape to get to the deck and use the outdoor grill. The comforter on the master bed was stained and dirty. We had to stay one night because we were 5 hours from home and since we had our dog with us, we couldn't just check into a hotel. When we called the local property manager he told us he had never seen the house and that the people who stayed there before us had no complaints. Also, the television would only get network news 24/7. We were so glad we had not brought our grandsons. I have made several attempts to reach Casago, but all of my letters have been returned. The property manager did give us a refund for three nights, but we are still out $750 for the one night we had to stay, plus $100 for gas and two days of driving. Not to mention the huge disappointment.
