I participated in the Canadian Rockies tour from June 13–21 and was disappointed with the performance of our tour director, Rick.
Overall, I felt that communication throughout the tour was inadequate. Important information regarding daily schedules, meeting times, and logistics was not always clearly or consistently provided, which sometimes led to confusion among travelers.
During bus rides, there was very little meaningful explanation or commentary about the sites or areas we were passing through. All the time, instead of informative guidance, there were extended personal conversations with the driver and occasional jokes that I found unprofessional and not appropriate for a guided tour setting.
In addition, I found Rick to be rude and dismissive when questions were asked. Responses were often unhelpful, with frequent answers such as “I don’t know” or “I can’t talk to you now,” which made it difficult to get basic information or assistance during the tour.
Rick also refused to provide his contact number for emergencies, even though many participants in the group were elderly. He stated, “Just call the front desk and they will find me,” which gave an impression of limited accessibility in case of urgent situations.
In addition, at the final dinner, he announced that he is planning to open his own tour company in Vancouver. This left the impression that he may not have been fully focused on our tour experience, which contributed to the feeling that the group was not his priority.
While the Canadian Rockies itinerary itself was beautiful and the destinations were excellent, the overall experience did not meet my expectations for a guided Caravan tour, where I anticipated more consistent engagement, structure, and professional guidance from the tour director.
