Hi I would like to register a human rights discrimination complaint against an Esso clerk at the gas bar at 618 Colborne St. in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
The incident took place this morning, Thursday, March26, 2021 at approximately 5:30 am. Upon entering the store to purchase gas, I was yelled at in a rude and unprofessional manner to wear a mask or be denied service. I informed this person that I have a medical exemption, clearly stated in the by-law. I was unlawfully asked to provide papers to prove my medical condition, and lied to by being told that I had to show papers or be denied service. I informed this persom that I am not required to disclose or prove my medical condition to anyone for any reason. It is against the law for an employee of a business to request such details.
I was then denied service inside the gas bar, was repeatedly called an '[censored]" by the clerk in question (he was the only one working at the time), and ordered to go outside and pay at the pump. He then began filming me (see attatched photos) unsolicited which was very unprofessional and intrusive. I asked for his name and he refused to tell me.
This is the first and only incident I have had at Esso ever. Should never happen once.
This second class treatment of a long time paying customer with a medical issue is unacceptable, unlawful, and unwarranted, and unconstitutional. There was clearly a personal agenda on the part of the employee, for no apparant reason.
I would like for Head office to remind this particular location of Esso to follow the by-law and honor medical mask exemptions and I would like to continue to exercise my mask exemption rights at Esso without fear of harassment or discrimination. Thank you.
