BoydVision - Dr. Michael J. Boyd, M.D.

Having been referred by a walk-in clinic near school (Simon Fraser University) I had a difficult time finding the location. I called for specific directions, and the receptionist was very pleasant, explained that the address is misleading, and told me where to go. I arrived, and she was still very polite, despite my being 10 minutes or more late . I waited no longer than 20 minutes before being taken in to an exam room by an eye technician of some sort. He was great! It seemed like he enjoyed his job, and was eager to help find the solution to my vision concerns.

The trouble started when the opthamologist, "Michael J. Boyd, M.D.", came in to grab something. Obviously in a hurry, he barely acknowledged me, but said he would be right back before scuttling off again. He returned in 5-10 minutes, instead of asking anything, or even introducing himself, he immediately started in on the attack. WHY was I here, if I already have contacts that correct my sight to 20/20?! I told him my concerns: For the past 6 months I have been noticing my vision is blurry, neither my contacts nor glasses correct this issue and my eyes discharge a sticky mucus every day. I have been to the optometrist twice already, and given my very busy full time school and work schedule, this is causing significant impairment, distress, and disability. Hmm. Maybe he should have read the referral or the notes jotted down earlier by his assistant. I immediately got nervous, and began shifting uncomfortably in my chair. He was so unprofessional, he offered none of the common courtesy or concern usually expressed by medical professionals. The visit was barely tolerable- after it became painfully clear that he was not interested in hearing my concerns, answering my questions, or examining my eyes, I tried to escape. This man had the WORST bedside manner I have ever seen or experienced in my life.He essentially yelled at me, raised his voice, and shot down or interrupted every piece of information/research that I had found so far as a possible explanation. When I started visibly tearing up, he became even ruder. I asked why a family Dr. would send me to him, if he was unable or unwilling to listen/answer any of my questions, examine my eyes, or provide any solutions to my problem- he said he didn't know and would contact the clinic. Obviously my situation was a big waste of his time, considering he is supposedly a reputable Physician and Surgeon. I asked about laser and implants, he said it would make it worse, and once again raised his voice to let me know that he, nor any other opthamologist would use implants on someone my age. As if I should have known... Perhaps he thought I had years of education and training in specialty medicine and that explains why my questions and concerns sounded so stupid? Who knows, he didn't bother to explain.

I have never been treated with such disrespect by a so called professional in my life. This man should have his license revoked, people this abrasive belong behind bars, or closed doors, away from the general public.
