American General Financial Services Fraud

Item financed: Trane Heat Pump
Date of purchase: [protected]

I was told that this would be zero% interest loan. When I received the original paperwork which listed the financing amount to be 5.99% I called and was told that if I did not pay the loan off by the end date, then 5.99% interest would be applied to the balance estimated from the start date. I have made regular payments. Every month the statements show 100% applied to principle balance. There is a section for charges of interest and nothing has ever been entered in that box.
August 2007 I contacted American General to verify that it is in fact a 0% loan, and to find out the date the special rate ends. I was told yes it is 0%, and as long as I paid the balance by April 10, 2014 I would not be charged interest. I was told that the 0% was until April 2014.
August 2007 through October 2009 I called every three months to verify that it was still 0%. I was given the exact same information. I even questioned why they would agree to 0% interest for so long a time period. I was told that it must have been a special thing they were doing with heat pump loans.
October 2009 I had the same conversation again, but asked them to go through and verify all payments received. The difference between my balance and theirs was 800$. The difference between the statement balance and mine was $1482.15. I spoke to Bill, the manager, and was told the same story. 0% interest etc. I questioned the difference in balance and he said he would have to look further into it and call back. When he called back he had pulled the original agreement and explained that I had been charged 5.99% interest the entire time. I told him that if I had known that, I would have transferred the balance to a lower interest account a long time ago. I made my decision to keep the loan at this company based on the information that not only his account rep's but also he himself had told me. He explained that he could understand why I had been misinformed so many times because the way the computer is set up, it looks like it is a 0% loan. He is maintaining that I must pay the balance due.
I have since paid the loan completely off, early. Yet I continue to receive statements that are charging $1482.15. The manager refused to negotiate with me or correct the problem.

Issues:
1) I am being fraudulently charged excess interest charges. I paid off the entire original balance in December 2009. I have received another statement dated June 2010 charging the same original amount of interest that would have accrued if I kept the loan until 2014.
2) I was given false information from American General initially and then ongoing for 2.5 years. I made my decisions based on the false information I was given. This same false information was repeated to me by the general manager, Bill.

I applied for a $300.00 (three hundred) loan online here in NE Columbus Ohio and was subsequently denied. The reason i was given for the denial is because i don't meet their lending criteria. I needed the $300 for food, etc. because i drained my savings account do to i had to pay $3400 on a vet bill to have surgery done on my dogs' hip displasia. I was in between paychecks and this would have held me over until my next paycheck. After that, things would be normal again. I have a credit rating of nearly 740. The bills i have are my mortgage, equity line, car payment, and credit card. Lets assume for a moment that the interest rate would have been 20% (pretty high for a credit rating this high) the monthly payment would have been $30 a month for 12 months. Are they questioning my ability to handle that ? This would have been paid off no later than next months tax return refund.

Be very careful with considering obtaining a loan with this company because if you do and find yourself in a hardship, you will be harassed. I lost my job with the state in Sept 2008, however; I have managed to make payments, falling 2 months behind at the most. This company is very harassing; manager, rep or employee showing up at my home, telephone calls to my home and family members home. I called on 10/29/09 to obtain payoff quote by using a friends cell phone (I did not provide them with the phone number from were I was calling) as soon as I hung up, a Miranda called to ask what my intentions were. I advised her, I am only one payment behind by 2 days! I also advised not to call this number again, not to come by my home again and if so, I will consider it harassment. I further advised AGF to only contact me by correspondence through mail.

On July 28th I visited AGF office to refi exhisting loan. The officer told me not to make the payment due at that time since I will receive an answer the next day and it will be taken care on the new loan.

The very next day I received a call from the same office on regards to an application that I submitted two months before so I explained them that I just recently re-apply since no answer was received before.

I did not receive any calls from this office on the second application and on 8-04-08 I call them.

At this time they notify my that the loan will not be approve and that now I was behind two months plus late charges.

They said that no payment was made on June for wich I have proof of payment.

American General never lets you know your balance on your monthly statement. It is very easy to OVER PAY... as did I. Then they will call you relentlessly to accuse you of owing money. Their accounting practices are shady to say the least...
