My husbands Grandfather passed away in 2012 the power was in his name while his uncle lived in the house, his uncle is disabled. We acquired the house in November 2023 when he moved out. First of all a random cousin calls and has the power turned off she has no rights to do anything as the house belonged to my father in law… anyway Alabama power made us pay $250 plus a 1300$ power bill that was in his grandfathers name, we Did not live there. His uncle did and even have it in writing who is suppose to pay it but that wasn’t acceptable. We took them the will which plainly stated who was suppose to pay the bills everything. so $1600 later they still wouldn't turn it on without a record ed deed, they wouldn’t accept the will or even the land tax receipt which is suppose to be proof of ownership! Let me remind you this is the 1st of December so while we are waiting on a recorded deed we have a lease written up and taken to the office and they finally turn our power on. It was on for one month. We were iced in In January weren’t able to work or even get out of the house and they turned our power off after the public service commission and Alabama power said they wouldn’t disconnect and they had to let you make a payment arrangement. They refused a payment arrange. Please remember it was just turned on around December 1st then disconnected January 31st. They then wanted me to pay another 1365$ to get it back on I refused… when they finally turned the power back on they put in a smart meter and our power jumped from $327 to over $600 and we were using the same kws. So I moved out because I can’t pay that much and let someone move into to rent the house. After making the new tent ant pay a $655 deposit they still won’t turn on their power because they’re making them pay $1365. So from December 1st til February 25th $2205 has been paid for 2 months power and they still want another $1300 before they’ll turn it on. This is ridiculous. How do they expect anyone to survive living like this. They were not suppose to disconnect until March and were suppose to let you set up a arrangement but refused and first of all it was only one months bill. The law plainly states that a bill follows the tentant not the owner or whoever buys the house or rents it! I just want the power on. Not to mention the fact that it had been on budget billing and was only using like $180 per month but charged $327 then when when we to the office to December 1st they tried to tell us that we owed $400 in overage charges. That is BS I have all of the bills to prove it! So now I’ve got $655 floating around in Lala land and there’s still no power. Please help!

Desired outcome: I’d like for Alabama Power to do what’s right and turn the power back on. They should have to refund atleast $2000 because it wasn’t my bill to pay. They have totally ruined my life.
