8 hp pull start outboard purchased from Maxxum Marine, Eugene OR July '21
This motors' chronic failure to start has been the cause of a steady stream of cuss words, & in one instance putting me in real danger of capsize in the mouth of Netarts Bay on a falling 5' tide. I hailed the one boat left in the vicinity & he allowed me to raft up my 16' drift boat back to the ramp.
I've made this complaint to the seller & after 2 different inspections reportedly found "nothing wrong".
What makes this particularly mysterious is that once the motor starts it runs perfectly. This failure to start isn't just confined to cold starting; it can be just as balky after running for an hour or more. I've owned many different outboards over my 80 years (2 and 4 stroke pull starts from 5.5 to 18 hp) & have never experienced anything like this. Last week I watched I guy with a 25hp pull start Yamaha fire up with one pull! He said it sometimes takes two. This has been my experience over the years & I expect nothing less.
PS: The new motor was to include a Yamaha remote tank; instead I got a Honda tank associated with a consignment sale of my previous boat. LLoyd at Maxxum assured no difference in performance. True of running not starting.
I only run pure gas; not ethanol.
Desired outcome: Find the source of this gremlin & make the motor start easy & reliable.Including a Yamaha Corp official referral to service facility in my immediate area, zip: 97477 that is not Maxxum
