I am a veteran with more than 20 years in the United States Army as a motor transport operator. When attempting to enroll in the school for a Master's the faculty member (can't remember her name) said that the university seeks a high standard of their students and I would be better suited finding a trade school since none of their degree programs would be...

Walden University Fraudulent school

It’s absolutely heart breaking what this school does. This place is an absolute fraud. They will destroy your sanity, keep you locked in a psychological prison, bleed you dry from the cost, and still refuse to grant you your degree. I am out to warn every single person I can to try to prevent as many as possible from being victimized by the fake, fraudulent school.

I earned a B.S. in Communications May 2014. And B.S. is what it is! This school only allows you take two courses at a time - enough to bleed the federal loan and financial aid systems dry. Earning a Bachelors degree that costs $40, 000 makes me feel great, just knowing how worthless it is. Every year the cost to attend just kept creeping up. This place is a financial trap, stay away from all for-profit colleges/universities. Their commitment and desire to promote social responsibility is a hilarious joke.

I am in the same situation at Walden. Has anyone notified the U. S. Department of Education. I tried but the automated systems gives you a number to call for fraud, but you never get a person to answer, just voicemail, and I have left my name and number with no call back. Help!

Walden University Walden University

RUN FROM THIS SCHOOL! I was a PhD student and Walden fraudulently gave misinformation regarding my student loan and auto registered me for classes I did not need nor could simultaneously keep up with working full time. It was the worst experience I have EVER encountered.

Please listen and read this and other complaints about Walden. The enrollment advisers are sweet as pie once you get in. Its pure hell after that. You will NEVER get the same answer twice. The staff is mega rude and the $$$ get flows into them and you are defenseless.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND WALDEN UNIVERSITY. THE FEES IN ADDITION TO TUITION ARE OUTRAGEOUS AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FRUSTRATED WITH THE TRYING TO GET HELP AND CORRECT ANSWERS AND NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH 1000 WALDEN PEOPLE NONE OF WHOM CAN GIVE THE CORRECT INFORMATION TWICE.

Walden University Walden schemes to get more money

Walden is a money mill! Dissertation students need to watch out!

I've been working on the first 3 chapters of my dissertation for 3 years because at every step my chairs have been stalling me. I thought that it was just that my chair didn't know what she was doing, so I asked for a new one. This second one gave me the ok on all areas and then when it was time to do the rubric to move to URR, he failed me on 5 areas. How does one fail the areas this very same instructor helped them to write and ok'd a few days earlier? It appears that the strategy is to stall the student for as long as possible in order to milk more money from them. Even when there is nothing wrong with your proposal they find something to change just to keep you from progressing too quickly. The professors say that walden makes new requirements every week. Well if that's true, we will never finish a degree there because we will have to revise constantly and never get to the next stages of the research.

I had to withdraw from the program because I felt like I was getting nowhere. I wasted too much time and money with nothing to show for it. I want walden to refund my student loans for this dissertation that they kept dragging out. Their business practice is not good because they took money and never delivered on a product or service. I am not a happy customer and feel that I have been scammed. All I wanted to do was better myself and thats why i stuck with the dissertation for so long. I feel that walden takes advantage of thesis and dissertation students. They must be exposed so others don't get hurt.

I want to join a class action law suit against this school. There's power in numbers and we can try to make Walden accountable for it's wrongs. Reach me at [protected]@yahoo.com.

This has also happened to me. I had 4.0 in my masters program and went though the first part of the PhD program unassisted. When my dissertation started I was guided by my committee for 1.5 years on the proposal only to have it rejected by the URR. twice. This is three years dangling at the end of this program. One committee member told me I was citing journal references incorrectly. He could not tell me the correct way, nor could my chair who simply said it was terribly complicated. My manual uses a font that is similar for italic and regular so that was no help. The writing center woud not respond to the question. I need up paying someone to tell me it was right in the first place. This stupid thing cost three weeks. I could go on for 50 pages of this kind of thing. This is the tip of th iceberg.

hahahahahahaha...hahhahahahahahahah...hahhaha you keep workin at that "RLM01 hahahahahah...the program is set up for failure...they won't let you finish because there is strong economic interest. A former faculty member told me they are paid each quarter per diss student, so the longer they keep them the more money they make...so you keep on believing that you're going to finish..hahhahaha

There is certainly not enough to go on, and it would need to be evaluated from both sides. It always amazes me how people jump to "I want my money back" and "I want to sue", because they failed something. Where has personal responsibility gone? This only seems to happen at for-profit schools. Traditional universities "fail" people everyday, and students have to jump through lots of hoops. Welcome to academia. Instead of bashing a school and trying to get your money back, why don't you work with them to see what you need to do to finish and accept responsibility for it. We all fail sometimes, so there is not a grand scheme that all of the professors and the school are in on to bilk you out of more money. By the way to admit my bias, I am a doctoral student at Walden, and it is hard. They make you work for it, but I have had a great experience. Not to mention, the professors are top notch, many of whom also teach at traditional universities.

Walden University I did not enroll for the fall. Walden enrolled me anyway.

I left Walden University last year. I thought about returning in April but gave notice and did not return calls. I was simply done with the University and never authorized enrollment for the fall. Yesterday, a package came with books from Walden and then I realized I had an invoice for $4, 700. Classes start September 4, 2012 so I sent an email. The email is below. I will keep calling next week but I want it documented that I did email a formal request to drop even though I did not enroll in the first place. I want this drop done quickly because I never approved it in the first place.

I got this initial reply:Flag this message

Walden University Stealing money

This school is a money trap and trust you will be in debt as I am. They are also sneaky as hell. I posted a complaint up here a while back and its gone I wonder where?

You guys (walden) exploited a young single woman and put me more than 100, 000 dollars in debt... For what? I hate this school and all you put me through. There will be repercussions for your actions. Believe me.

And dont delete my complaint the truth will come to light!

I am currently having issues with Walden University. I am a relatively new student and I contacted financial aid regarding my upcoming disbursement. I was told that I would not be receiving a refund and that I owed them money. She also stated that I was over-rewarded twice and offered to set up a payment plan. I am high disgusted with Walden right now. I had not received a call, an email, not even a fax regarding Walden's [censored] up. I currently speaking to another financial aid rep and I hope this issue can be resolved. I really wish I'd researched Walden's financial investigations prior to committing to this university.

We should all ban together ! right now I am out of 20 thousand for a MSN than I have been trying to complete. The problem always seems to be the affiliation agreement. My place of work and Walden are not on speaking terms and the last student it took them 9 months to approve the affiliation agreement. After it was approved Walden sent the hospital an email that stated that they would not accept any more students from that site. Had I known that attaining a practicum was to be so difficult I would never have attended this school. I am done with a MSN in NI all I need is a practicum experience. I should have dropped early on ! This is becoming a nightmare. I will have to move o a different city work at a different hospital to even have hopes of finishing this degree.

They have some of the rudest staff members I have encountered I really hate that I enrolled in this school. I have found that the rules, their rules do not mean anything even if it is in black and white.Whenever you call in you will recieve I different answer.

Walden University Fraud in education

I witnessed a lady who was very lazy and she said that is why she went with Walden. She said she "could buy her degree in counseling." There are many places in the Birmingham Meto Artea, where she could actually earn a degree. For example, the student told me her Walden teacher told her to write a TERM paper with just 3 references and that would get her an "A., " in the course. She told me she worked for Immigration, part of the federal government. The scammers of the world know how to not work and how to get cushy jobs. Walden is an insult to higher educatiomn and has been obviously paying people to write nice things about them on the Internet. Sure those EdDs may have worked for some high school teachers. High school teachers are another group of people who are pretty lazy. When you go to a real university, you immediately notice the difference in intelligence and attitude of a college professor. You will never find them dependent on unions. College professors appreciate the privilege and compete for it every day, with research and good teaching.

Walden University Lack of honest advisement for phd programs in counseling education and supervision

I was interested in applying for the Doctoral programs in Counseling Education and Supervision and Human Services; I wanted to finalize my academic plans by determining which plan would be right for my career path. The enrollment advisor Lisa told me that I had to send a copy of my LPC license for the Counseling Ed program. I told her I was an LPC Intern; working toward full licensure, and she could look up the information on the state website; she told me she wasn't authorized to do that. The woman wasn't even informed of the process to acquire full licensure; I had to explain that to her. She replied in an unprofessional, sarcastic tone, "Well, I don't see what the big deal is." I decided to submit my credentials because I didn't like her tone, and the remote implication was I must not have any credentials. Well, the big deal is I am spending my time and money on gasoline and to fax the requested information. Since gasoline costs approximately $3.38-$3.53 a gallon, I am trying to conserve gasoline, I don't make extra trips. After I gave her a copy of my intern license, she couldn't tell me if this is what the committee needed to evaluate my credentials for the degree, and none of my credits transferred because they are over 10 years old. Lisa should have stated that at the beginning, and she acted unprofessional and extremely inconsiderate of my time. The doctoral degree program isn't CACREP accredited, but they insisted on me jumping through the hoops because I didn't graduate from a CACREP accredited school. Since I didn't graduate from a CACREP accredited school, I would be required to take twelve additional classes over a year and a half period before starting on the Counseling Education and Supervision degree (st least 96 hours). The other one has the same amount of hours. She treated me like I was a high school special education student, repeating things and overexplaining things as if to insult my intelligence. I decided to pursue other options, nobody disrespects me. This is no way to treat a prospective student. How would she feel if someone treated her or one of her relatives in the same manner?

I attended walden as a Masters student and an in the Ph. D. in CES, I am looking into leaving because of the lack of support I am experiencing now. I was enrolled in core classes then after a year en rolled in the beginning intro course, academic advising is incorrect often which causes problems for those who are trying to plan their program. It's not the students, it is the institution. For profit schools need students and unfortunately often do not give the full picture of what is required.
Walden provides no help securing a field experience site either. Some teachers are good but some are not. On a PhD level you need assistance, if I could teach myself at the doctoral level I wouldn't need the classes. Some classes the materials are lacking and the instructor guidance very little, you are then criticized for not understanding the assignment or what the instructor wanted but all the students made the same mistake. Clearly if every student did it wrong there's a problem with the instructions. The attitude of some instructors is that they are so great and that you are a lowly student unworthy of academia.
Walden has gone downhill imo, I am considering transferring because the instruction is so lacking

I find most of these accusations to be without merit. People are very slow in their understanding what it takes to graduate from any institution. You cannot play school. You must attend, read, conduct yourself as a vessel of learning. It is very tough getting an advanced degree. less than 1 percent of persons attempting a PhD complete the program on this planet, so consider the source when you read these arguments. I will graduate in 2016 and it was hard and I get responses from all of my mentors, professors, and cohort affiliates. Do not blame the system, blame the individual.

I contacted Walden University about their Masters in Psychology in Counseling. When the advisor finally returned my call (4 days later) he did everything to convince me that I should attend Walden especially at this time if I registered by 12/02/2013 I would receive a $4000 check in addition to my financial aid. Well, I managed to submit all my documentation on time by November 27, 2013. I heard nothing except that the admissions advisor was out from 11/27 un Monday 12/2. He put some woman named Alison in charge of handling all his students paperwork. I also submitted to her but never received a response. She never let me know if she submitted my paperwork or if anything was missing. I left her two telephone messages and two emails. To make a long story short, on Monday, 12/2/2013, when the admissions counselor returned he emailed me and told me I could not be registered for December 2nd because they did not receive all my documents in time. Thus, making me ineligible for the bonus $4000. This was a complete scam. I intend to bring this scam to the attention of the Attorney General's office.

Walden is nothing but crooks and dishonest, non-responsive staff. Meanwhile. I'm being charged over $23, 000 in student loans, interest accumulating daily yet I cannot get a grade or a comment from an instructor for weeks at a time! My costs are accumulating daily while those idiots sit back and could not care less about their response time. Where is there a class-action lawsuit against them, I will sign now!

Walden University Student complaint

I have been trying to get a section transfer, I first went to my adviser, she intrun connected me to the intrim program director, which he did not like, they sat on the complaint for some time then they wnet again and told me I needed to submit a formal complaint, ( which Walden University rules mention, once there is a formal compliant submitted the University has to respond with 10 to 15 days, again they sat on it, until I had to e-mail and go higher up, but by this time and from the begining the Director had made his mind up not to allow me to transfer. I will have to go to J. Kaplan who is the CEO of the University since this is a profit University not Public or State . i also want a full refund and now they are telling me again I have to fill out a refund waiver this is becoming a complete nithg mare. Which I willnot stand for University are there to help the student succeed and his or her career not just to put the students to the side in hopes that the students forget or just give up and except what is shoved at the faces . That is the way I fell and I have and e-mail in which they had made up their minds before I even filled out the formal compliant and submitted it. This is bias and unprofessional for and Universityto do this . I will not submit any prove at this time I will submit them to some who wants to help and is professsional.
Thanks Mary

Perhaps maybe that's the (real) issue your are having. Walden University Fraud

Do not waste your money or time. Expensive mistake. Six months into my phd program, I changed the focus of my major and the enrollment advisor kicked me out of the entire school instead of transferring me into the new major. I had to wait months for the program to begin again, and there was a negative mark on my report (i.E. Dropping out of school — but I didn't). I never had anything less than as while in the program. And on top of that, I was continuously ill-advised for the kam independent study program. The academic advisors kept insisting that I needed to take intro classes at $2, 000 + per class over and over (3x) to be exact. It was the same material for each class. When I asked the head of the department he called and said, i'm sorry we can only credit you $200 of the $6, 000 but "I hope we can be friends at some point." other reps said I should have absolutely been credited the entire amount. The faculty is nothing more than a revolving door of looney tunes that are rookies and just there to take your every penny. I am so glad I am out of there but regret all of the effort and time to obtain straight as and calls made to try to understand the continued administrative abyss of gross errors. This school is a nightmare.

I'm so sorry you had to experience all of this as well Alex. It's hard enough being a student and achieving the goals you've set out for yourself...without having to spend even more time and money on the admin side of your education. Each time I phoned to find a solutions to the growing nightmare someone new got on the phone who did not know what the previous person said. Each person provided different information and I learned what a revolving door the faculty and admin staff really is. You are lucky you didn't spend as much time with this school as I did. HUGE WASTE from every angle. I am going to file a complaint with the BBB, Consumer Affairs and the Department of Education. Just because they are for-profit doesn't mean that they can get away with anything they deem necessary. If for-profit education systems are run like this...laws need to be passed ASAP to regulate this abuse. You will do well--it's worth it to attend another college!

I wish I knew about this website before now, I would not be in as much debt as I am and now the college is trying to collect personally from me over $3,000 because I had covid and was unable to complete the last assignment. They claim I dropped out of the doctoral program prior to end of the quarter. Which is not true. I wrote asking to drop but was told that I had to go through my instructor and I didn't. After talking to Dr. Stout I continue trying to write and submit my work but developed Covid in April and it last until the end of May. It has been so long, and I have had so many problems with this virus until I don't know if they are talking about the spring quarter of 2020 or 2021. I have contacted them several time and even wrote a letter to the president of the college and did not or have not receive any response, but they have placed that debt on credit and is trying to collect it. I encourage anyone who wants to further their education to choose any other school except Walden. They are not about minority women education. They hire a bunch of people who cannot and do not deal with your problem. You cannot speak to anyone that is knowledgeable to handle you case. Please choose another school. When I get the time, I will be posting my complaint, similar message, on other media site to warn people. Also, there is a class action lawsuit I trying to find out how to join it.

You are correct, Walden University cover up their mistakes, and explain-away student complaints like being delayed. Their systems are slow, cumbersome, prone to errors, like Blackboard errors, or MIA faculty, thus requiring replacement faculty, ad described above. Join me to complain to the Dept of Education and Dept of Justice.

Walden is scamming me and it smells to high heavens. They have my student loan, my transcripts, put hold on my account to block my next term registration. The school has turned to a dream-killer university. The staff commit error and pushes the blame to me. The tamper with students's records to cover errors. I have being changing dissertation committee members like changing underwear. Last one dropped without notifying me.

I am about to sue if nothing is done or the school fails to release my fund, get paid to remove the bursars hold, and I back to class I will file a law suit that will include the appropriate Accreditation Agency.

RUN RUN RUN!

I simple called to ask about "why" I had a balance and a bully( not gentleman) employed at Walden name Roy Winkler yelled at me. I asked him why was his tone changing and he said I was trying to make him feel stupid! Well if asking questions about this OUTRAGES FAKE bill makes you feel stupid, then keep wearing your shoes on the wrong feet. I'm reaching out to the Department of Education now!

I am trying to initiate a class action suit against Walden. My story briefly: I started my Doctorate in 2008 and was approved to start URR in 2011. Since then my chair has been changed twice and I was instructed to to begin my project study all over again. I have been dismissed from the program after accruing $122K in debt and being approved twice to start the URR.
I am being interviewed by the Philadelphia Inquirer. I have 2 others who have agreed to be interviewed. That makes a total of 6 in 3 different states who are willing to work with a lawyer to proceed.
I am hopeful this interview will lead to a lawyer becoming interested in taking on Walden. The more merrier. Please contact me at Zkeithnewman@yahoo.com.

The advisors at Walden are very poor. I was told I would graduate February 2016 and then was told I had one more class that cost me $2248 and did not graduate until April. Also, if you have a problem in a class such as I did, in which I was bullied and abused, the advisor tells you to forget about it because I got an A. My grade had nothing to do with how I was treated. I talked to the instructor who was just as bad as the students.. I enjoyed most of my classes and did very well and graduated with a 3.65 average, but I would not go back to Walden. I am still fighting with them over the $2248 they say I owe. I filed a petition and received no answer, they only care about money, not the student.

I don't know where to start so I am going to hope that I am clear in what is going on with hopes this can be rectified. I attended Walden University in [protected], I was not in attendance very long. During the course of being with the university, I was enrolled in a Doctoral program that was for Special Education. This special education program, as I was informed, was based on online learning and a thesis. Being that I was a new mother, this worked best for the needs of my family. Upon enrolling in the program, and after starting courses, I was informed that I would have to attend colloquiums for the program- something that was not informed of me during the time of enrollment by my enrollment counselor, Bev Foster. After discussions with the university and getting the university Ombudsman involved, I was informed that the colloquiums were 1.) required to take for the program and 2.) I was correct that Bev did not inform me appropriately of the demands of this program. I was informed that I could either stay in that program and do the required colloquiums OR transfer to another program that did not have those- myself, me enrollment advisor, and ombudsman did not know what program that would be. I was then put into contact with Miranda Olsen. After further decision and more back and forth with Miranda Olsen, I was informed that NONE of the classes would transfer over to the EDD program which did not have colloquiums in the program. therefore I would have to start from scratch for all of my courses. This was now December 22, 2011. I had already invested a good amount of money into the program and now I was unable to use any of the courses to transfer over to the other program. During this time of trying to figure things out, the system automatically enrolled me in another course (this was supposed to be suspended while this all worked out). In January 4th, 2012 the same day that I started to petitioning being enrolled in the program, I submitted a "Leave of Absence Request" so no further classes were added to my account and so I could figure out what I was going to do. I was also going through a divorce as well as some pretty significant health issues. On March 6, 2012, I emailed the university letting them know I would be changing my program and needed to have the hold removed. I was officially entered into the new program on March 13th, 2012. Mind you, at this point I had not enrolled in any classes in the new program. Issues continued to arise with Walden University and I was unable to get a clear understanding of the new program and continued to work with the Ombudsman. On March 16th, I was informed that 2 classes might be able to transfer over and that I needed to contest this and went through the motions of doing so. On April 3rd, an email from Jenna Gray regarding the new program and the courses that it entailed. Continued email communication back an fourth lead to Jenna Gray enrolling me in a course that started on April 30th, 2012-- still working with the Ombudsman of the University, I was getting no where with the University- I was not getting credit for the majority of courses I had taken and $$ I had spent without it being able to be used towards my degree. I was informed by the Ombudsman to participate some in the courses I was enrolled in while we worked things out as the University was unable to put me on another academic hold while things were figured out. Without getting any support and finalization with the issues I was having, I, in conversations with the Ombudsman, withdrew from Walden University on June 6th, 2012. When I withdrew it was clear understanding and knowledge that due to the issues I had been having with my degree as well as lack of support from the University the withdraw from the University would leave my account at a $0.00 balance and we would amicably go our separate ways. My account remained at a $0.00 balance until September of 2012 when I got notified my account was sent to collections for failure to pay $7, 440.00 in tuition fees! I contacted the Cedar Financial regarding this was emails, letters, proof that the account was at a $0.00 balance, they said they would look into it. I heard NOTHING. I called Walden and they said they no longer had my account on file and that I needed to speak with the collection agency. A YEAR later, I got another bill from the collection agency for $7, 440.00 noting I owe this to Walden. Again I called and EMAILED them all the documentation at which point it was clear that I did not, in fact owe the said amount. They never got back to me. Here we are, 2016, and now I have a collection account on my credit report for Walden University when I have evidence that I was not enrolled in the classes willingly nor did I act alone in withdrawing from the University-- clear communications with the Ombudsman about what was happening and the lack of rectification of this issue was presented.

I just graduated with my MSN from Walden in May. I transferred in from a brick and mortar school. The cost was comparable to the brick and mortar (state) school that I attended. My only complaint is that it is difficult to find preceptors. However, there are many brick and mortar schools that no longer find preceptors either. As Walden's MSN program continues, more contracts will be signed between the school and health systems/offices which should make it easier to get preceptors. Also to be considered is that there has been an explosion of MSN/FNP students in general across all schools. So it is not entirely Walden that is the probem.

My only other complaints are just that they kept increasing tuition, although it stayed comparable to the b/m schools in my area. And they kept changing the requirements for clinical rotations (allowing MD's, then deciding that 1 of the 4 preceptors had to be an NP, allowing minute clinics, then saying no to minite clinics, and then changing their minds. I was a student there for 2 years. These changes could be considered "rapid fire" and annoying. The hardest part about this was the lack of communication that these changes were being made. There was no "grandfathering". It didn't matter if you were admitted to the school under one set of rules, if the rules changed, you changed with the rules. In the end, this did not affect me, so I personally had no complaints, but I know other students did

I know that there have been communication problems between Walden and the students but at the time that I left, they were working on that and had put together a student advisory council that was to meet on a regular basis to discuss problems. They also started a newsletter they sent out periodically. Included in the newsletter were introductions of staff, faculty, and administrators. They have some very prestigious people in administration. Most recently they opened a forum for students and I know that when we posted complaints on the forums, the admins of the forums were quick to try to find a way to help us resolve the issues. I personally did not experience any communication problems. My emails were almost always promptly answered within 1-2 days, from anyone in administration, support, writing center, and the library that I contacted. In fact, when I was unhappy with some of the information given by student support, I recall that a support manager or administrator contacted me to make sure everything was worked out.

If I had to choose one thing about Walden that needs changed it would be Academic Advising. Of all the agencies of the school that I contacted, the academic advising staff were completely clueless. I was very happy with my own academic advisor. He was accurate with his information and fast to respond to what I needed. I can't think of a single time that he wasn't on top of things. But there were so many others that I had talked to if I didn't want to wait to hear from mine, and with each question I got a miriad of answers from different advisers. Very frustrating.

Overall, the school is a good one, and it is affordable. I was very happy with my program. I learned a lot and truly enjoyed it. Just do your homework, and don't expect it to be perfect. Check out facebook for student support pages. Those pages were invaluable.

Those of you who think Walden is great, get to your PhD and see how things go. I graduated from a brick and mortar Ivy League school with honors for my Bachelor and Master's Degrees so don't tell me I need my "hand held" at Walden. It was great until I reached the PhD and was abandoned for the dissertation. No one has any compassion or help offered. Do not go here for higher degrees. Good Luck. I am well paid and respected in my field yet I am being treated like a child at this university. NIghtmare emotionally and financially.

Walden University Cost, lack of response, grievance filed without so much as an acknowledgment... The list goes on!

Walden is a money trap! They do not reply to concerns let alone ADDRESS them! They can't retain quality faculty at this point and it is beginning to be quite evident! I began my Dissertation to have my Chair leave the University. Ok, new Chair. She took three months to reply to anything I submitted! New Chair and frustrations sent to "advising". Still working on the dissertation and the University fails to acknowledge that there was any wrongdoing on their part...it's "my problem" and I'm certainly paying for it!

While I was enrolled in Ed D Educational Technology program with Walden, my courses were cancelled, then my enrollment was discontinued without notification or warning. I inquired multiple times until I found out the status. Now I am trying to know how to resume. They have not provided any details.

I have been attending Walden University for 2.5 years. I am now ready to start my internship. I have been blocked due to a grievance I filled. I have now been retaliated against and forced into signing some sort of plan that is unwarranted. I have tried to get help form every office at Walden and have been awaiting response. Walden University engages in unfair practices to delay students progress. I have paid tuition completed all coursework and now stuck and blocked from completing my degree as a result of a grievance filed. How does one area of a University have the power to block a student for no warranted reason.

I am also a student at Walden University I have been attending since 2009 and have been working towards my PhD degree with little progress. I am experiencing the same intended delays, lack of approval of my chapters and now it is claimed that I reached my aggregate limit for student loans. I am getting unwarranted U grades for everything that I submit. My progress is being undermined by my now Chair and previous Chair. I have petitioned for a grade change repeatedly and requested an investigation of my Chair and committee. I was delayed 2 1/2 years with my Prospectus, I had one Chair who argued that my Prospectus should have passed long before it did, and they removed him as my Chair. I was assigned another Chair who repeatedly advised me to quit because I developed a disability, she then undermined my progress by blocking me from submitting revised drafts of my Prospectus, whereby she submitted a previous unrevised draft instead.

I am experiencing the same with the new Chair who advised me to quit as well and subsequently gave me U grades consecutively for two quarters based on her bias against my disability. I am fighting the grades without any luck of getting them changed. My eligibility for financial aid is dependent on my grades each quarter. I now do not qualify for student loans, to continue my program due to the U grades and as financial aid states due to having reach my aggregate limit to borrow money. They are giving both as reasons for the denials.

I want to join the class action lawsuit as well. I sacrificed 10 years of my life working towards this degree. I am also deep in student loan debt, I can't just walk away. I am very stressed and upset and so very angry.

After they strung me along for the 8 years max of the program. I had to beg them each quarter to get an extension because my chair would always tell me your soo close to finishing just one more quarter. We need a class action lawsuit. I don't want to pay them anything more

I also have been on the mentor merry-go-round. And now I being held up due to a difference in perspective between my two paper readers about APA rules (by the way it is a minor thing, whether to put page numbers or not) and the use of the word "it"-- really, that is why you prevent someone from moving forward with their dissertation? ...this has been going on for 2 years!

I am a DNP student and this is my last Quarter because my chair states she only read small portions and if it needs corrections she don’t read any further. My first chair couldn’t find my first theee sections to read for two Quarters. My second chair made me change my approved Proposal after getting approved for my initial Proposal and the first three sections were complet or she wasn’t going to read the paper. Smh I reported it several times to my advisor with no help and the head of the program NEVER responded. Ever! I now have no more financial aid. They didn’t do their job!

I've completed the doctoral program in Organizational Psychology at Walden University and while it took me way too long to complete my degree, I hold myself accountable. I completed the course work in a couple of years, and worked hard to achieve a 4.0. My grades were not given to me...I spent endless hours doing the work and doing it well. As with any school there is a range of teaching styles and teaching quality - all in all, I would rate the professors high - they provided engaging comments, were present, and responsive. I thought the coursework structure was extremely well organized, thought provoking, and I learned a lot...you get out of it what you put in to it.

I think a lot of people believe on-line education is a breeze compared to traditional classrooms, and it's not - it's often more difficult because it requires extreme self-discipline (you're not told when to show up for class - there are deadlines to meet but it's far less structured than face-to face education). Additionally, you have to be able to communicate well via scholarly writing and many people don't know how to write well so they struggle with weekly posts and commenting to their peers. Scholarly writing is a different style than many are used to and if it wasn't required in undergraduate and master's level work (which I can't imagine a program that wouldn't require it) you will struggle. If a students struggles in the course work they are going to have a very difficult time writing a dissertation - it's all about writing and research AND requires even more self-discipline than the course work does.

Around the time I began my dissertation life took a turn and it was difficult for me to focus on school and I didn't know what I wanted to research for my dissertation, so I wasted a lot of time & money. I actually failed one quarter because I didn't do the work...that's my fault...not Walden's not my professor's...mine! Had I failed again, I would have been dropped from the program. Yes, after spending all that time and money, I would have blown my opportunity to complete my degree and that would have been my fault. I wonder how many disgruntled people made poor choices and blew it...how many didn't do the work and are upset that they have a lot of debt and not much to show for it...for those of you considering Walden (a university which stresses critical thinking) ask yourself those questions. Ask yourself if you're willing to do the work, because there's a lot of it. Please don't just jump on the bandwagon without doing your own research because I know a lot of successful people who have earned degrees from Walden.

I had a bad experience with my Method's Expert leaving in the middle of my dissertation - it wasn't the end of the world, or the end of my success in the program - I was assigned a new ME and I went on...because completing my degree was important to me and that bump wasn't going to stop me from achieving my goal/dream of earning my PhD. And, because that bump took a while to smooth out - I requested partial tuition reimbursement for that quarter and Walden reimbursed me for the entire quarter.

I'm not saying the program is perfect...I do have a complaint...once a dissertation draft is submitted the reviewers have, I believe, up to 4 weeks to respond. When it's an 11 week quarter that's far too long and that is a drain on the pocket book. I think that aspect of the program needs to be changed, turn around time needs to be much quicker. Other than that I'm thankful for my education and degree, I had a great experience, and I would recommend Walden.

I hope that more people will share their positive experiences.

I am currently at Walden student working on my dissertation as soon as I got to chapter 3 I was immediately sent back to do chapter 1 over again. Once I received an approval again on chapter 1 I went back to chapter 3 and I have been held at the same point for two quarters. I am being asked stupid questions and asked to remove information that the checklist requires. So, my time is constantly being spent right now sending the same three sections back for reasons that I truly don't understand. I have heard that if you question things you are really held up even more.

I have had the same experience throughout as well! I am told to add or change something and then told the next time to go back to what I had. This has been going on for 2 years. I barely get any feedback and when I do it is about minor things which involve APA rule disputes between mentors. I am in the education program and they are consistently employing bad practices. The website is a mess and it is hard to follow directions and find the templates you need. Everything is based off a rubric with zero instructions.
