Varsity Tutors We are parents of two children who have been tutored by Varsity Tutors (VT)

We are parents of two children who have been tutored by Varsity Tutors (VT). Both children started in high school with VT and continued off & on through 1st year college. With the slight exception of some unreliable tutors in the beginning, each child had exceptional praise for every tutor. The subjects covered were calculus through writing papers. The relationships lasted from 3-8 months. Tutors were consistent in meeting appointments, were highly trained and prepared, and were attentive and motivating. It's best to establish a relationship with a VT regional director to help choose the best tutors. Sharon, our director, always found us the best tutors and was always available for assistance. We homeschooled both children until senior year of high school. VT helped immensely in their transitions to public high school and then college. One child was admitted to a prestigious honors college, the other to a competitive state building trades program. One can't go wrong with VT!

The lessons are so engaging that I (a parent) always wind up watching with my daughter. It's terrific that they offer so many free classes. It's shows that they aren't "just" a business but really care about educating. We have done many of the classes and look forward to doing more!

Varsity Tutors My grandsons tutor is amazing and Varsity Tutors is a great

My grandsons tutor is amazing and Varsity Tutors is a great. They never gave up on calling me to make sure he got the correct times and days set up. when he needed another tutor, they set one up right away and got him started in with no disruption. His tutor is great in communicating. We have had connection problems with our computer and she stayed on until I could fix the problem. She has so much knowledge on how to work with kids and has been so patient with him. He now looks forward to his tutoring sessions. I am so happy I ran into Varsity tutors on the web. I had no knowledge of them and from the first time I called, they offered so much information, I couldn't believe this was real. I took a chance in signing up with their family plan and it is the best investment we've made as far as educating our children. They offer other classes that will benefit the whole family! This is helping him to over come problems he is having in school. I would recommend Varsity Tutors to anyone!

Varsity Tutors I love Varsity Tutors

I love Varsity Tutors. I talked to them frequently before deciding to use their services. I had a lot of questions and they were both patient and knowledgeable. Once I decided to join, they selected a tutor that would fit my daughter's needs best. I was able to communicate directly with the tutor to choose a schedule that worked for us. When our scheduling needs changed, she was able to accommodate and help us come up with a new schedule. As for our tutor, I could not imagine a more impressive resume for this woman. I am grateful that she chooses to use her immense skills to tutor kids. My daughter loves working with her, as she makes the learning feel natural and not like "more work." My daughter is receiving tutoring in a subject that is not provided at her school, so her tutor-time *isextra work, but you'd never know it. My daughter enjoys talking to our tutor who even helps incorporate other subjects into the tutoring. I am beyond impressed with Varsity Tutors and recommend them to others without any hesitation. I can't imagine a better tutoring service.

Varsity Tutors They are long on promises; very short on delivery

They are long on promises; very short on delivery. On Monday evening January 24, I signed my son up for 24 two-hour sessions for SAT prep. The tutoring was scheduled to begin this week. I was told we needed to start immediately so I was promised we could begin Thursday, January 27 - today. But prior to that, I would receive a call from an account manager and a tutor would be assigned. The man I spoke with had the perfect tutor in mind. Tuesday came and went; no call. Wednesday came and went; no call. Thursday (today) at noon, I called. We are four hours away from my son's first tutoring session and I've heard from no one. I called and was told, not only had a tutor not been assigned but they didn't even have my son down for a session this evening. We are 3.5 hours away from the first tutoring session and NO TUTOR HAS BEEN ASSIGNED! I HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED there was any change in plans. Had I not called, my son would have logged in at 4 pm and there would be no tutor. I am presently waiting for the lying salesman to give me a call. I am livid. I was lied to and I suspect this is standard operating procedure for them. I can't imagine I'm special.

My daughter (*) was matched with an Algebra tutor on Varsity Tutors, and I could not have paired two people better. *'s confidence was shaken after failing a unit and our tutor has spent so much time getting her back up to speed. She also made sure to connect with her personally about sewing and other hobbies -- even though sessions are remote, she is getting to know the WHOLE kid. She is also great at keeping parents in the loop. I have received texts, emails, and really thorough summaries about their sessions less than 30 min after they conclude. She also asked me to send the teacher's syllabus so she could be totally plugged into what S was learning. Amazing and worth every penny. Looking forward to seeing an improvement in her grades and her mojo next semester!

Varsity Tutors We really wanted to utilize Varsity Tutors, and spent quite a bit of time on the phone with two customer service specialists

We really wanted to utilize Varsity Tutors, and spent quite a bit of time on the phone with two customer service specialists. However, we were quoted different prices from each representative, which made us question the pricing structure. That is when things became murky, as it appeared that Varsity Tutors runs 'specials' that entice you to buy large packages up front. The 'specials' are only good for the week in which you first call them. You are not told at the time you call about the 'special' price expiring, only that there is a special promotion going on. When you take a few days to review the offer and further research the company, you then call back, you discover that the pricing has increased. When you inquire about the increase you discover the details of the promotion have changed. You know, if you truly have a good product, one that produces the results you claim to produce, you really should never have to use deceptive marketing tactics. We are very lucky that this transpired on the front-end of our attempt to engage Varsity Tutors services, for it told us all we needed to know this company, its tactics, and probably what the corporate officers most care about, and that is not student performance but rather profit at the expense of honoring promises.

Varsity Tutors Unfortunately, my experience with trying to find a math tutor for high school algebra and geometry was extremely poor

Unfortunately, my experience with trying to find a math tutor for high school algebra and geometry was extremely poor. While the sales people were busy trying to sell high dollar packages for $4-$5k of turoring, they seem to have forgotten about everything we talked about when it came to execution. We wound up with a tutoring session scheduled with only a few hours notice in the middle of the day, with notices sent to an incorrect email address (the correct one was provided at the time we signed up for a plan). I received a random text from a tutor asking my name, then informaing me that my session was cancelled. It also turned out that the tutor had some experience with a related learning disorder, but not the specific disorder we had discussed. After several attempts to access the online system, I discovered we were billed for 90 minutes of tutoring...despite having been assured verbally and in wriitng ( a total of three times) that our sessions would be 90 minutes. This with literally 15 minutes notice via text that stated the tutor had then moved on to live tutoring, so despite charging for 90 minutes, was no longer available. This was unfortunately a complete dropping of the ball from the sales process to the operation side of the house, which resulted in my requesting a refund. Unfortunate outcome for all!

Varsity Tutors Today, months after my sons last Varsity math tutor quit and after continued difficulties in getting a new one assigned, Varsity contacted us

Today, months after my sons last Varsity math tutor quit and after continued difficulties in getting a new one assigned, Varsity contacted us unexpectedly to talk about our bad experience. We had about six hours of tutoring left and just intended to let those lapse. But Varsity Tutors suddenly was offering to refund us approx $300 for those unused hours. BUT THERE WAS A CATCH. In order to get a refund we were told we had to sign a waiver that we would, among other things, never disparage them in any way over print, media or the internet OR report them to the complaintsboard.com! We can have our unused hours reimbursed only if we agree not to tell anyone about our bad experiences or report them. We declined those terms. Here is our experience with them: we had a couple of really good math tutors through them. We also had two tutors who seemed lacking in the subject. And of those tutors, two tutors up and quit without even telling Varsity and leaving us scrambling. Varsity was unable to timely replace the last tutor before my sons math test. For those reasons, we wouldnt use them again. People who decide to use them should be aware that they will refund your money in a situation like ours only if you sign a legal document agreeing to never let others know of your problems with their company. Youd have to ask them why they are so worried about that. But $300 is not worth being silenced. They can keep their money.

Varsity Tutors My son has used Varsity Tutors on and off since he got mono his sophomore year of high school in 2015

My son has used Varsity Tutors on and off since he got mono his sophomore year of high school in 2015. He was sick for 6 weeks, fortunately part of his illness was over winter break so he missed less school than he would have. With the help of Varsity Tutors he was able to have sessions remotely and was able to take his Euclidian Geometry final along with the rest of his class. He caught *** in his other classes much quicker than he would have on his own. His gpa took a slight hit but he still got into his top choice for college and with Varsity Tutors help scored a 4 on his AP Psychology exam. Just before his junior year of undergrad he decided law was his path and turned to Varsity Tutors for LSAT help. In two months his LSAT score went up 11 points. He was accepted to all four law schools he applied to and received full ride offers to two, with no gpa requirement. The other two schools offered the top scholarship amount available. His top choice was one of the full scholarships which is a tremendous relief since law school is stressful enough! His LSAT tutor, *** was not only a great teacher, he was my sons biggest cheerleader, telling him you are getting a free ride to law school! I have no doubt! That encouragement meant everything! *** insisted my son follow up with his LSAT score and acceptances. He even read my sons personal statement and offered great notes to improve it. Varsity Tutors is always a resource Ive trusted and worth the money. *** tuition is about $150,000 so do the math! Its worth it!

Varsity Tutors If i could rate 0 stars, i would

If i could rate 0 stars, i would. This company *** me. I reached out for tutoring for a very niche topic, a professional designation exam, their website indicated that they have that specialization. After thinking about the cost for a week, i decided to proceed with their 12 hour program (more than $100/hour!). This program comes with a pass guarantee, a tutor guarantee, and a small discount on the hourly rate. It seemed the most secure and best option. i was paired with a tutor, we had our first session (which couldn't be less than 2 hours), and he did not give me his undivided attention. He was on his phone, typing emails on his laptop, offered no guidance on questions i was asking, told me to "just guess and then check the answer". This was not worth $100+ an hour. The following day, i called varsity tutors to ask for a new tutor assignment, because i could tell this guy wasn't meeting my expectations, and they apologized profusely, refunded the 2 hours to my account, and told me i will be assigned a new tutor in 2-3 days. 3 days go by, and i still have no new assigned tutor, i call twice daily for updates in their search, and never received a positive update. I asked multiple times, how many tutors they have for this exam topic, and they told me "we don't know". Finally, after a week of not receiving any updates, i asked if i would qualify for a full refund, and they said yes. So i proceeded with the refund. a few days go by and i am not refunded the full amount that i paid. Total scam. I do not recommend this company for any professional exam!

Varsity Tutors Initially, their sales persons were very kind and helpful and really want the business

Initially, their sales persons were very kind and helpful and really want the business. They would follow up by calling everyday to make sure your kid get the tutoring need they need, fast. (hence they make the sale) I decided to paid for $299 per month membership, plus paid for 4 hours of instant tutoring ($75x4 hours=$300) (where my kid can log on any time when they need to from 8am to 11pm and can get homework help online). I later decided to cancel the membership within a month because my child does not like the on-line aspect and that the tutor couldn't hear what he says (because my child is too soft spoken and the tutor is not an American). The plan was to use the monthly $299 membership up and still have 4 hours of instant tutoring service left when my child needs. The worst part: My child used 4 hours of tutoring (from my membership contract). But they charged it on my instant tutor account instead. That means they stole my account for 4 hours of services that I paid for. Now, I paid, $299 plus $300, and I only got 4 hours of services, that means I am paying for $150 per hour (instead of what they promised $75 per hour). They claimed the tutor they picked for my child are from Ivy Leagues, but the first tutor was located overseas, not graduated from the U.S. The second one is from Columbia University, which is a very good school, but not an Ivy League. So what they claim is false. Tutors quality are okay. I tried 2 tutors, both are able to solve the calculus problem my son has. (but the first one was not able to hear what my son says) I will keep following up until I can get my 4 hours of instant tutoring fee back on my account and will not recommend this company to others. Bad experience. Very disappointed.

Varsity Tutors (I have evidence of all claims against Varsity Tutors)

(I have evidence of all claims against Varsity Tutors). I'm coming to you as a consumer concerned for other consumers. I work for VT, but not for long as I am an Entrepreneur and seeking clients of my own at this time. Please take this seriously as it is out of grave concern for clients who purchase with VT. I do not like seeing honest/hard-working people getting scammed out of $1000's. This is why I am leaving the company. What they require of their employees is for them to con people out of cancelling their accounts so they get locked into the payments. They sent out a mass email to their clients informing that "effective immediately" all membership contracts will automatically renew and funds will be automatically deducted from their accounts. I have had clients directly state they felt manipulated into staying in a membership they repeatedly asked to cancel and get a refund for, but said they felt they were forced to remain in the contract, b/c VT would not let them cancel. And then after the cancellation window expires after 30 days they are locked into payments. The company Sales Manager told me in Sept. that we are only to give refunds if the client threatens to give us a bad review or threatens a lawsuit. Many of the tutors are hired from overseas and are also scamming clients for money, by trying to hustle them for private sessions on the side for money. This company is not transparent in their business practices, consent and legal forms, or their sales practices. They give false information, telling people they can cancel and refund all of their money at any time and that simply is not true. This company charges credit cards and other payment methods without prior authorization or without providing proper notification to clients that they are charging their card, even when and/or after a client has paused and even cancelled their accounts. The company spams their clients multiple times a day, even if listed as do not call. This company is the worst.

Varsity Tutors We had an amazing experience with this company from beginning to end

We had an amazing experience with this company from beginning to end. During our initial call, I expressed the need to be matched with a tutor who was proficient and had experience with preparing students for the *** Proficiency Exam (***). Unfortunately, our first matched tutor was nothing close to my request, however, I immediately called in to express my concerns. It took them a few days to find another person - who ultimately was the perfect match. YOU MUST BE SPECIFIC with your tutoring requests and it really helps to know your what learning style is best for your child. The second Varsity Tutor had ample direct tutoring experience for the *** and has successfully helped hundreds of students (*over 500) pass -with the exception of about 3 unmotivated students (*this was his exact quoted stat.) As promising as his track record sounds, we were still a bit skeptical after several weeks of awesome tutoring with him simply because most students do not pass every section of the *** on the first try. Well, talk about under promising and over delivering - my child not only passed the ***, but has learned that anything is possible with focus, dedication, and consistency. VT was helpful and accessible throughout the 2-3 months of tutoring, but I did inquire on multiple occasions about their MONEY BACK GUARANTEE claim. I just couldn't believe they had so much faith in their entity to actually give our $2000+ investment back in the event our child didn't pass all three sections. After multiple email exchanges confirming they would definitely honor their policy, I continued to admire the ongoing virtual sessions as our tutor gave excellent constructive feedback after every session. WE ARE STILL IN DISBELIEF AT THE SUPERIOR EDUCATION THIS ENTITY PROVIDES! Passing this exam not only saved my child from having to return to school and begin the 11th grade in the fall, but now he will be start college at only 16 years old! VT is by far THE BEST!

Varsity Tutors billing

I signed my daughter up with Varsity Tutors for their 8 hours of tutoring for 3 months at $589/mo. plan in June of this year. June and July were billed correctly, but on 8/7/23 I was billed for an additional $147.25. In reviewing my daughter’s online tutoring activity, I can see what the problem is, but can’t get Varsity Tutors to correct it - despite repeated attempts. My daughter only used the 8 hours we had scheduled and agreed to. On 8/1/23, she started her 8 hours of August tutoring, but their system put her account hours in the negative and then charged us for the extra 2 hours on 8/7 - the same day they credited the 8 hours for the month. My daughter had additional 2 hour sessions again on 8/9 and 8/16 with her final 2 hour session scheduled for 8/23. Because they charged me for additional hours, after her 8/23 session, my daughter's activity balance will have 2 hours left after she's done with tutoring. At no point was I asked if we wanted to add additional hours, nor did we request more or need more. My daughter is a minor and couldn’t agree to more, even if she wanted to – which she did not. I did a live chat with Everton Nelson today, who said he was the account manager. I requested that they take the 2 extra hours from her balance and apply it to the hours I was charged extra for. His repeated response was 'no.' I'm not asking for anything more than a refund of the overcharge that I didn't request or use.

Desired outcome: Refund of $147.25 overcharge

Varsity Tutors My child started to prepare for SAT exam with Varsity tutors on 10/5 with tutor

My child started to prepare for SAT exam with Varsity tutors on 10/5 with tutor. My child planned to attend four years college. We targeted score from low 1400 and up. That score would be sufficient to apply to colleges. On 10/12 my child started to prepare for SAT exam with balance of 37 hours 56 minutes. Sessions were continued through first exam on December 5. The score was very disappointing below 1200, which makes my child ineligible to apply for universities. My child was very disappointed and wanted to go with *** where other student from the same school received tutoring with high SAT scores outcome. I had faith in Varsity Tutors and convinced my child to stay. Next SAT exam was on 5/8 and my child receive even lower score than a first time on low 1100. The last session with SAT tutor was on 5/5. I refilled the account on 6/14 total was 50 hours and 34 minutes, (after adding 47 hours) for SAT, which is equivalent to $3100, with intention to continue tutoring. After much consideration we realized that Varsity Tutors are failing us and decided not to seek tutoring. The whole experience with Varsity tutors put a great stress on my child and myself. My child did not learn anything with Varsity Tutors and declining scores were results. We spent seven (7) months studying with Varsity Tutors only to receive disappointing low score every time and not eligible to apply to colleges. The balance was left on Varsity Tutors account. It was reinstated once in 2021 and as of 5/16/22 expired. I was told that is contract is good for one year and I cannot get my money back ($3100). My child and I had highly unsatisfied experience and stress dealing with Varsity Tutors I am asking for reimbursement of my balance of 50 hours and 47 which is equivalent to $3100. Varsity Tutors is money making business with their policy that allow balance to expire after one year, rather that helping students to succeed.

I called Varsity Tutors and talked to a representative on November 17 and purchased 9 hours of tutoring. The representative assured and promised me that even though the hours were valid for 12-months that they would never really expire because I could call and extend them at anytime after the 12-months. I was worried I had to use the hours all within 12-months so this flexability persuaded me to purchase the sessions with Varsity Tutors. Fast forwarded to January 2023 where I contacted Varsity Tutors on their website's chat feature to ask for an extension for 2 remaining hours. The chat representative said they would have to look into it and get back to me. They did not get back to me all week so on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, I inquired on their online chat on the status. The representative said they would have to call me and scheduled a phone call for Wednesday, January 18, 2023. A representative called me on the phone and told me that I could no longer extend my hours, that I signed their agreement, and that all they could do was give me 10% off if I signed up for new sessions with them. I refused because the initial sales rep promised me that these hours would never expire. This rep told me she would have to escalate this request and get back to me within 24-48 hours via email. The time has since elapsed, and Varsity Tutor representatives have not contacted me via phone or email. Today, January 21, 2023, I asked on their online chat representative on the status and they said they are still looking into this matter but cannot give me a time or date they can get back to me. This is false advertising and unethical sales practices from their reps to make a sale by lying to potential customers that tutoring hours never expire and can be extended. Furthermore, they continue to string me along by not giving them a timeline on when their representatives will get back to me. I would appreciate someone to please get back to me on this matter.

I was misinformed about my tutoring credits. Varsity Tutors does not explain up front that credits expire. Inadequate tutoring preventing me from being able to use all of my hours. I tried multiple tutors. I had 13 hours remaining before they expired on November 28, 2022, and I was not given a notice or warning about them expiring. I am asking for reimbursement of my balance. I am a college student taking difficult classes, and I spent a large amount of money on this tutoring service. I'm hoping you can help!

Oh my day! I am absoultely mortified. When I signed up in August 2022 for my two kids i was excited. The kids loved their tutoring and they were great. My son began having sessions offered at school so I removed him for the package. Proir to signing up I specifically asked if the hours were not were not used will they roll over. The rep insured me that they did. Even after removing my son we had an additional four hours available for usage. I thought gee this is great my daughter can use the extra hours around testing time. Since the rep told me they would roll over I did not ask for a refund for my son. My mother passed away in October and we were traveling back and forth from California to Indiana in order to resolved everthing. Because thier rep told me hours would roll I was not worried and focused more on my family. It wasnt until today 1/23/2023 that I went to update my payment infor that I saw the " credit expired notices" . I was like what the heck and immediately called. The rep I spioke to bascially told me I was SOL because its in their guidelines. So basicelly their reps do a bait and switch to get you to sign up. The rep offered no help and was like basically I can help you cancel and you will klikely not get a refund. Total bs more than 500 bucks down the drain. I trusted you guys! You are liars and scammers! Your supposed to help and be an assisant but Ill guve you an A for you business structure and ripping people off. People please find your own private tutor or a place were you pay as you go

Varsity Tutors On November 14th I enrolled my 8 year old son into Varsity Tutors year long program

On November 14th I enrolled my 8 year old son into Varsity Tutors year long program. Almost immediately I was faced with scheduling problems, tutor absences, and time zone confusion. The time difference seemed to plaque our tutor throughout the weeks. I had to confirm, over and over, which time zone they were referring to, and remind them frequently that I was unavailable during times I kept getting scheduled for. On Nov 27th we waited 30 minutes for our tutor to show up. We messaged them but received no responses. I scheduled a permanent time change for the 4th, which went fine, but fell through on the 11th. Again we waited, and again no one showed up. They claimed to be unaware of the permanent change, and assured me I would not be charged for the session. After reviewing statements, NO lessons were comped. I called to cancel my subscription on January 3rd. Granted, a couple weeks out of my 30 day cancellation window, but by this time I had only received 4 tutoring sessionsA months worth of tutoring spread out into a scheduling, erratic nightmare. After 4 sessions I learned that my son gets fidgety and unfocused over the internet, especially for hour long sessions. When trying to quit, I received an email stating I did not qualify for cancellation. When I called to talk about my concerns with Varsity Tutors, they told me someone would call me back to discuss my request. I never received any call backs. After waiting a week and a half, I had the cc company call Varsity Tutors to discuss a stop payment. Instead of calling me, they called the cc holder and told them these lies: I submitted 5 star reviews of my tutor each week. Varsity Tutors called me back to discuss my cancellation request and concerns.I submitted NO reviews, and NO call backs. Varsity Tutors did not hold up their end of our contract. I was not impressed with our tutor, nor their learning platform. I was not comped for missed sessions. I was ignored and to lied to.

I have spent the last week trying to get a call back from the cancellation department of this company. They misled me for the price of services ( I understood it as $270 a year whereas they are charging $270 a month) for tutoring services that are poorly supported with frustrating customer service. I first realized the discrepancy in the price when I was charged the second month and had immediately reached out to Varsity Tutors on 1/14. I was told I would get a call from the cancellation department to sort this out and it has been 3.5 business days without any call from said department. When asking other reps if I can be connected they say the cancellation department does not accept calls in and only places calls out. I understand it was a holiday weekend but this lack of response is unprofessional and feels as if they are dragging their feet because I don't want this service any longer.

On January 13, 2023, I signed up with Varsity Tutors for math lessons for my 4th grade daughter. At the time that we signed up for lessons, we were clear that we were only available on Mondays from 7pm to 8pm and Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm. We were assured that would not be a problem. Varsity Tutors has not been able to find a tutor for us to accommodate our schedule and has also refused to refund our initial payment of $489. Therefore, we paid Varisty Tutors $489 for 8 hours of tutoring and they are unable to delivery the services we paid for but are also unwilling to refund our money.

Varsity Tutors I purchased tutoring for my daughter starting in 2

I purchased tutoring for my daughter starting in 2. I purchased 15 hours for $850. I was so happy with the help for her, I purchased another +30 hour for $1690. I used hours up to 4/18. And I am suppose to have about 28 hours left but the company cancelled out the hours because I have not used the hours in a year, I found this out when one of the reps call me today, I believe they called me because I was on the account looking to use the service. I was online yesterday or day before. My daughter did not need the tutoring during Covid19 because it was too hard to be online for regular school hours and then be online again for Varsity Tutors. I did get a couple call from the vendor asking if my daughter need help. I declined and told them she is doing great. But was never told I would lose the remaining hours equaling $1690. I was told it would be better to to schedule a session at least every 3 months but never told I would loose the hours or $1690, I just purchase hours. I told them I wanted to save to have *** do so tutoring for her PSAT or SAT. I did inquiry about the fact I did not see the hours but was told it just a book keeping issue and the hours would appear when I set up a session. Ms. *** call me today set up a tutoring with my daughter to find out I did not have tutoring hours left. I thought you took my money and you want me to pay again. She then offered 10 hours back, I call back to speak to Jim Nichols and I was told I could have 10% off a new purchase of hour? I asked him well who is using my money for the tutoring hours I purchased in April . I was lied to. I want the hours restored or my money back so I can go to another tutoring company. I can not afford to loose $1690 dollar. Not now! I want my money back! This vendor is not being truthful and not warning people about losing your money. They told me I lost my money within a year but in fact they canceled the hours 3 months after the year?

On January 7th, 2023 - I contacted Varsity Tutors looking to hire a computer science tutor for myself - It was explained to me that it would be a 3 month contract to meet with a tutor via online 2x per week for 1 hour sessions - It was explained to me that the price would be $650 for a (3) month subscription to their services, to which I agreed On Januray 9th, 2023 - $650 was deducted from my bank account and paid to varsity tutors which I authorized - What I agreed to was $650 for 3 months NOT $650/ month for three months. a refund has been refused by the company Ive contacted my bank to dispute their charges I have tried to resolve this with the company itself, however i was told that there is " no contact information for a supervisor" These practices are blatantly misleading and extremely unethical

False advertising, deceptive money-back guarantee claims, stealth 12 month contract, flaky services from tutors who try and use other software, non-communication and ignoring our calls and emails about canceling. This company is very shady, we had very poor experiences with the tutors, customer service, and sales staff. Do not believe the reviews, this is a predatory company that will continue to charge your account. Salesperson told us it was easy to back out, and when we attempted to cancel they claimed they have a 12-month contract. When asked to see the contract they have no signatures from us of any kind and my partner was never provided with it. Calls and emails ignored, I have since canceled the credit card involved and am disputing the charge. Poor service, deceptive business practice, no communication, or downright hostile communication.

Varsity Tutors I signed up for a 6 month contract with Varsity Tutors on October 31, 2022

I signed up for a 6 month contract with Varsity Tutors on October 31, 2022. I had 30 days to cancel this contract. I called in on November 18, 2022 to have the contract cancelled. The representative that I spoke with on November 18, 2022 stated that I could have a "free month" in December and stated that my account would be cancelled after the "free month". During the call on November 18, the representative made it seem as though she was "helping me" by giving me a "free month" with no charge to help with classes and finals. She never stated that my contract would continue after the "free month" was taken. I specifically asked the representative if my contract would be cancelled, If I proceed to take the " free month", the representative then stated that my contract would be cancelled after the month of December 2022 and assured me that I shouldn't worry about remaining in the contract, this was a complete lie. To my surprise on January 6, 2023 $349.00 payment for the month of January was deducted out of my account. On January 6, 2023, I called Varsity Tutors and requested a refund on my account because I had previously called to have my contract canceled on November 18, 2022 which was within the 30 daytime frame. When I called on January 9, 2023 to follow up on the refund, Varsity Tutors denied my refund and my request to have my account cancelled. They stated that I could no longer cancel my account because I was out of the 30 day time frame for account cancellations. The representative then stated that my account was simply on "hold" and was not a "free month"! I explained to the representative that this is a very manipulative tactic to keep consumers with-in the contract by placing their account "on hold" and not actually canceling it. I want to end my contract and receive the money back that they stole from my account after using their manipulative tactics. I also want an apology for the lies told to me. Thank you for you assistance.

The issue is regarding expired credit. My credits expired in July 2022 but I was told by the Varsity rep that they could be extended - which they were. I was also told to contact them again in Oct/Nov 2022 to have them extended again if needed. The rep was adamant that there would be no issue with this. I did try contacting them via chat throughout Oct *** someone would call. Finally, I got hold of someone in December and they said they would need to escalate the issue. I then got an email on Nov 30th saying the "window" had closed. I responded to ask if there was any compromise and again after a month of waiting and several emails to them, I had a call today saying the answer was final. I feel that I was initially given the wrong information that the hours could be extended for a second time. If I hadn't been told that, I would have used them over the summer months on group classes rather than waiting until school restarted and I knew which classes my kids would be taking so I could get private tutoring. This miscommunication has cost me a considerable amount of money.I really would like the credits back or at least some sort of compromise.

I called the Varsity Tutors in September 2022 for tutoring help for my son. I wanted to try it for a few months to make sure my son would adapt to it well. His grades were not improving and the tutor seemed impatient and my son has not used his hours in November or December 2022. I requested cancelation of my contract because I am no longer using the service. My contract is not cancelled as of today 1/9/2023. I have called 4 x and emailed three. I am frustrated because I cannot get an answer why my contract is not cancelled. I have paid for two months and have not used. I want my contract cancelled.

Varsity Tutors I called Varsity Tutors and talked to a representative on November 17 and purchased 9 hours of tutoring

Varsity Tutors I am writing to you regarding a recent call requesting a refund

I am writing to you regarding a recent call requesting a refund. I purchased tutoring hours in October and November and I only ended up using 45 minutes of the 15 hours I purchased. First, the tutor I originally scheduled with cancelled and I used 45 minutes to try to have an instant session. College General Chemistry was not available so I tried AP Chemistry, which matched me with a tutor but while he claimed to know the topic I was asking about, when we actually did the problems, he was very unhelpful and even got many of the questions wrong, as I was checking the answer key as we went along. That experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and there was clearly a lack of tutors knowledgable in the subject field even though I was assured on the phone that there were tutors in the field. Furthermore, I was reassured on the phone that there was a money back guarantee, and there was no mention of a 30 day requirement. While there was an offer to extend the hours indefinitely when I called today, I am still dissatisfied. I am requesting a refund of the hours that I paid for and never used, and I am not going to be using this platform in the future for my tutoring needs. Furthermore, when I emailed them, they did not email me back, and tried calling me back directly, ad nauseam. The amount of times that they have called me during class or during times where I am busy has become infuriating, and looking through my voicemails, every single time they called was at a horrible time. This final call, in response to my email, was frankly rude and unprofessional - giving attitude referring to the times where I was not able to answer the phone, and her tone left me furious. I would like to continue this conversation over email, and I am sick and tired of Varsity Tutors trying to call me during times when I am busy. Other than an automated feedback email after that one instant tutoring session, not once have they reached out to me by email to ask about how their service was.

Varsity Tutors My daughter enrolled in varsity tutors; they said they would have a 30-day trial period

My daughter enrolled in varsity tutors; they said they would have a 30-day trial period. She did not like the online tutoring and had issues understanding the language barrier with the subject being AP Calculus; it made it too much of a challenge for her, so we went a different direction. We could cancel before the trial ended; in fact, we canceled within three days of signing up. However, they did not refund the cost of the membership. The way the membership is portrayed during the signup process is that we, as a customer, have a 30-day trial period, and it can be canceled within the 30-days without issue, inferring that cancelation includes refunding. We went over canceling the membership during the signup call from numerous different angles to make sure we could cancel and get a refund if need be. We were reassured the membership could be canceled, and thus we understood this to be refunded upon cancelation. The membership was canceled on 10/18/2022, I contacted them in November, and we have yet to be refunded on 12/14/2022. We have called them numerous times in between, and only on 12/14/2022, during a phone call, has anyone ever said we would not get a refund. We initiated a dispute within our Credit Card process, and during this process, the terms were made available back to the Credit Card Agency, and in their terms, it says in section 3.1.3.4 Early Cancellation of your Tutoring Subscription Contact Duration, "...you will be permitted to cancel your tutoring Subscription prior to the end of the tutoring subscription duration..." "Those scenarios are: a) if, within thirty (30) days of Your original purchase..." This is pretty simple, if funds will never be refunded, this needs to be made very clear upfront. Offering a 30-day trial period implies that it is a trial period, and if a customer finds the services are not suited to them, then canceling the membership includes refunds. If companies are going to play word games, it's not going to be successful.

Varsity Tutors We signed up for Varsity Tutors for our 11 year old daughter to get help with math

We signed up for Varsity Tutors for our 11 year old daughter to get help with math. The lady that signed us up originally pushed me really hard to sign a 12 month contract and told me that if at any point we weren't happy we could cancel. The first couple sessions went well and it seemed like it was going to be worth it, but then we ran into some issues. The tutor that ***, our daughter, was working with was a no call no show to a session. She sat in her room for the entire hour waiting for the tutor to show and she never did. Then 2 weeks later the tutor rescheduled the session within an hour of the start time and we couldn't make that work as we are on a tight schedule with 2 children. At this point, we decided that paying $250/mo for a service that was already this unreliable wasn't what we signed up for and we asked to cancel so we could go find a different tutor provider. At this point we were told that wasn't an option because we locked in a 1-year contract. Now the lady on the phone never mentioned once we signed up that we would be locked in to paying for an entire year. We've already went the past month with no sessions and paid $250 for nothing. We asked to speak to someone else about the contract and we've been completely ghosted by Varsity Tutors. My husband and I have left multiple voicemails asking for a returned phone call, we've sent emails, and we've reached out directly on *** as well, and still they will not respond to us. This seems to be a common theme with them lately as we scrolled through the *** page and read all the other parents that have similar complaints and similar terrible experiences. We also tried to go on to their website and find a place to file a complaint but they've left that out as well. Our biggest complaint is the fact that our issues with this company come from them failing to provide the service we were promised. In addition, they've ghosted us and it feels like a complete scam. Couldn't be more dissatisfied.

Varsity Tutors I purchased a package of 1 on 1 tutoring through a phone call with the company after not scoring as high as I would have liked on the GMAT

I purchased a package of 1 on 1 tutoring through a phone call with the company after not scoring as high as I would have liked on the GMAT. I told them my initial test score, then my goal test score, and then they offered package options based on that info. They ensured me that if I did not hit my desired score that there was money back guarantee. After underwhelming tutoring sessions, I took several practice tests and then finally the actual test but still scored decently below my goal score. I luckily took the GRE as a backup and got a good score. My GMAT was low enough that I actually had a school tell me to only show my GRE and not GMAT. I called to try and get my money back and they informed me that the guarantee only applies to the highest number of sessions purchased. They informed me there is nothing that they could do even though the person I talked with initially told me that I could get my money back if I did not hit my score. There was no mention at that time that there were any specific requirements to that guarantee. When booking the sessions, I even summarized the guarantee with the person to ensure that I understood it correctly. The only way I would have know that there was a limit on what the guarantee works for was if I went on their website and navigated through several pages to one specific page while on the phone with the representative...which doesn't seem right to me. I am very disappointed in how unclear and inconsistent this was and am even more upset that I ended up paying for such a poor quality of tutoring. There was no effort by the representative today to look into the initial call or what was said. They offered me a refund of one session because I mentioned specific reasons why my tutoring was so bad. First, when booking they sent links for two diagnostic exams and said it is very important for me to complete them so the tutor can look at them, but that never happened and he never really put in any effort to figure out which sections I need the most improvement on. The last two sessions the tutor had me work through practice questions the whole time and when I got them wrong at the end I had to look up the answers on my own. The last test he left the computer and did not come back until several minutes after my session was supposed to be over. Nothing that we did was any different than what I would have done just sitting and doing practice problems on my own. The only benefit of this was that it made me dedicate time to studying. Refunding a single sessions is not enough and I want the company to be held to what was promised when I booked the sessions. They should at least look into this instead of just brushing it off. I would not have signed up for the tutoring if I knew that the guarantee did not applying to what I was buying. After my experience with the tutor, I doubt that I will coming back to them, even with the one session refunded in my account.
