Walgreens - overcharged prescription - refused to run through insurance

For over 7 months, I went to the Walgreens in Platteville to fill/refill my birth control prescription. The insurance I had at the time only covered the name brand and NOT the generic. That was one of the reasons why I took the insurance I did; as in the past my body would react to most generics. Normally, I would go and pick up my prescription free of charge without any problems. However, recently I went to pick up my refill from the same pharmacist as always (may be the only one, it is a small town after all) only for him to tell me that it would cost $38 this month. When asked what had changed, he responded with 'you must have hit the medication cap on your insurance'. I refused to accept the medication and told him I would call my insurance company to confirm. After this he tried pushing me into just paying for the medication and leaving stating that he had already done so and it would be a waste of my and his time.

I did end up calling my insurance company shortly after. They told me that I had no such cap, and the charge was for a generic and nothing had been run through their system recently. They also informed me that this act is ILLEGAL and instructed me on how to go about reporting the incident. I confronted the pharmacist again and informed him what I had just been told. He told me he would change the medication even though I was wasting his time again. Upon checkout, he ran it though my insurance (I made sure this time), and it rang up as $0.00. Imagine that. I thanked him and left.

Since the incident, I have transferred my prescription elsewhere. I will not be returning to this or any other Walgreens, especially to get a prescription filled. There is no reason to be so rude to a customer. There is also no excuse whatsoever to violate a law and not run a prescription through someone's insurance. I did file my report and was told an investigation has been started. I hope you enjoy
it [censored]bag.

"I left my brain on the counter at Walgreens. I am going back tomorrow, if they don't help me to find it I'll demand to see the tape!"

It might cover theft but not loosing it... She says she just left it on the counter. For all we know, she left it someplace else and just does not remember?

How do you know for sure that your insurance company wasn't the "[censored] bag" ? Insurance companies are notorious for this kind of stuff. But you are willing to engage in name-calling anyway. Stay classy.

There are a few lawyers who didn't have a good laugh today - give them a call.
