Don't get a carwash at MOBIL gas, corner of Whitney Way and Odana Road. This is why I rarely pay with cash: Credit cards offer tools to fight dishonest and rude sellers. I rarely encounter such dishonesty and rudeness in Madison, but there's always a first time. On 12/10/2021, around 5:15 p.m., I pulled into the gas station and then over to their carwash, a small building with garage doors. It was still open, and I inserted $11 for the wash I wanted expecting the "drive forward" sign to light up any second. The front garage door opened, but the light didn't. Inside it was dark and silent. I drove in anyway since I'd just paid, expecting the system to whir into life. Nothing. I waited a couple of minutes but then drove through and back out to the parking lot. I could see a handwritten "Out of Order" sign over the car vacuums that had not been on the carwash paybox.
Inside, the cashier said to me, "That's not ours." It is and I snapped a cell pic to prove it. Then he said, "It's broken," yet it accepted my cash which I don't think would happen if it was broken. He then said, "It's closed. I closed it." See my previous reason for not believing him.
I returned to the carwash building and snapped some pics to show the doors still open, etc... The cashier walked towards me, pointed to the pay box which now read, "Closed," and said, "See, closed." I want a refund. I will send in an incident report on Saturday if I hear nothing back from the gas station. It was a fair price, but a waste of money since my car still needs a wash.
I posted this on social media shortly afterwards and received over 100 replies, all negative about this Mobil station and its carwash.
