I reserved a car rental with Thrifty car rental at Dulles Airport in Washington DC. The rental agreement was for 34 days for a stated total of $1119.61 plus $383.09 tax and fees for a quoted total of $1502.70. When I arrived to pick up the car the agent told me I MUST purchase insurance. My Capital One Venture card provides additional insurance but he said that was not enough.
The agent charged me an additional $640 and said I had no choice. It was night time and I had no options, I had to have a car. The total bill was $2309 instead of the $1502 quoted.
Even if you take the original quoted price including taxes and fees and add the additional $640 the total would have been$2142.90 not $2309. This was a total rip off and fraud.
