Last night my daughter experienced a very traumatic encounter at the family dollar store in richmond va. We have lived in this community for all of the majority of our lives and frequently shop at this location. Not anymore since last night! My daughter was asked to remove her hood and was denied service for this reason. The store did not publicly display any signs stating to remove hoods. My daughter came in to spend her money and yet had the police called on her which generally upset her because she felt that this was an injustice to her as a law abiding citizen. Seeing her emotional angered me and I just couldn't let this issue go. I understand that crimes have been occurring in the community but you can not judge customers due to the issues of the community. This deeply affected my daughter, if signs were posted she would have complied. I feel if it were properly posted then it wouldn't have been an issue but my belief is the associate can make up her own rules of the store. The associate stated that it is "company policy" which is a blatant lie because there have been articles stating the same issue at numerous locations. Until this company can treat its customers with respect and the proper service I no longer will give them my money! If you don't stand up for something you will stand for nothing. The store is constantly slow, unstocked, horrible customer service and an lackluster shopping experience at the least. Police were called for my daughter to be removed from the store, yet she posed no danger or threat. I filed a complaint with corporate but didn't feel it will be handled correctly. The company needs to provide their associates with ethics and customer service training.
